FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 10, 2012 Today was my first day at my driving school. I'm a bit nervous about driving. Hopefully I will over come the nervousness over time. I met some really cool guys, and we went to Church's Chicken for lunch. Jesus wasn't there. The only thing that bothered me today was a very graphic video showing car accidents. It was like watching The Walk Dead minus the zombies. That really freaked me out. I have two big fears. Death and Pain, a bad combination. The video didn't help that. Besides that I'll get to practice driving in two weeks. I'm so excited. Did anyone go to Driver's ED? How was your experience? Any advice for this old man? Marked 197 Report post Posted June 10, 2012 Death and Pain, a bad combination. I couldn't help not saying that, I'm not too sure you can combine the two One follows the other, but I'm fairly certain you won't experience both at the same time. I never went to any driving course or whatever. I got my learners (first stage of a license where you need a full license driver) and my dad pulled the car over and told me to drive home. So that's how I learned. After that I would drive my mum to get groceries or whatever, just for practice. I got my license all the way back i 2005 when I was 15. Just know your limits and don't try to impress anyone or don't be afraid to show your inexperience. If you're not confident in doing something (ie driving at 100k's (yes, we use kilometers per hour) then just don't do it, or do it slowly and within your own ability. Just practice and your ability will grow. Maybe you should drive somewhere empty and the around town speedlimit (don't know what that is in miles, 40?) and just slam on the breaks. Test your stopping distance. Well thats just general driving advice, no idea about your drivers ed PS: never drink drive. Lol this one time right, I was driving home from my friends 21st, a wee bit drunk and pulled up to get some gas. There was a cop there and he was talking to some guy. So I'm at the counter and this other guy in front of me, also drunk, starts taunting the cop. And I'm like.. dude stfu. And the guy says to me "Hey how are you? I hate cops ae." But anyway, don't do that. I wouldnt ever do it again.
Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted June 11, 2012 Learn to be defensive first before being aggressive. There is no need to cut off infront of someone if you can wait the 5 extra seconds for them to pass. If you do everything by the book and pay attention to the drivers surrounding you, you will be safe. When I took Drivers Ed I was super nervous and the teacher was impatient with me. But I always put safety first and drove 5 miles under the speed limit, the teacher complained about it but I didn't care. A good driver is a defensive one. Polraudio 122 Report post Posted June 11, 2012 When i took it i was also nervous as hell. I did very bad at driving that i scared everyone in the vehicle. One of the reason for me doing bad was because of the instructor. He yelled very loud if you did something wrong. Luckly a week after when it was time to drive again the instructor was busy so they had to hire another instructor. This instructor was awesome! We drove for 2 hours each day and he didnt yell. When he seen i did something wrong he calmly told me what i did wrong and how i can avoid what i did next time. This instructor made me feel so calm when driving. Now im an awesome driver instead of almost getting into wrecks from the bad instructor. EX of Each: Instructor 1: What the f*** is your problem? You turned to early and ended in the wrong lane. You would have almost got us killed if there was a car coming. Instructor 2: You turned to early. Next time you might want to pull up a little more before turning :). After driving with Instructor 2 i got so good that when the time came back to drive with Instructor 1 i did so well i didnt even have to drive the rest of the required hours before getting my permit. All i can tell you is try not to get nervous and always keep your eyes on the road and around you. Always turn your head back to the left to look behind you when doing a merge(blind spots so its required).
