Concept Art for a Fairy Tale game

Recommended Posts

Introduction

I started spriting a while ago, maybe even a year now, and I recently start putting pencil to paper. Since I also started conceptually designing a game from scratch, I figured why not try and draw some concept art to go along with it. Everything posted here is drawn right from scratch by me, without the use of any pictures, media or anything else, I just closed my eyes, then drew what I wanted to see.

  • The White Rabbit

This is the 7th or so character I drew, and one I think will likely work towards a final model. He is a slave to the queen of hearts and is forced to be her time keeper during court. I want to do hair on his body in a less hairy than his cheeks but slightly more than the top of his head, and possibly have him wear torn shorts and that's it. He'll be timid and slightly driven mad by the queen and spout "I'm late" at seemingly random times.

  • The Wizard of Oz

Just sort of started drawing this not knowing what would come of it, and I ended up working towards what I think is a great look for the wizard of oz. This is either what he will represent himself as when a disembodied head, or be his true self, I haven't decided yet, but definitely a incarnation of some kind of his.

Conclusion

I will be adding more to this thread, and I would appreciate any feedback. If you draw tips are more than welcome, I am pretty much just shooting from the hip here. Thanks for reading and viewing I hope you enjoy my fairy tale drawings.

That's pretty cool. If you're going to make this a full blown project you should play that Alice in Wonderland: madness game or whatever it's called. I played and it was very fun. Pretty dark. It might give you some ideas.

Thanks. I actually own the sequel, bought it from blockbuster when they closed up shop. The story will include 9 different fair tales, one of which is Alice in Wonderland. I am trying to draw and conceptually design all the aspects without outside influence so it's unique and represents me as a developer. I appreciate the advice and the thought.

-Cheers!

He does not die, he is integral to the story. I can definitely give him a name for the characters to call him in the game, but he is not an invented character, he is from Alice in Wonderland, and his name IS The White Rabbit, I didn't make it up, that's just his name. But I could definitely work on a spin name to dub him.

Agreed, the ears should be extended, I will make him skinny too, but the body is a template body, that's just a random body I threw on and lined by mistake. It was intended to be guide lines for a new drawn body but I got over zealous when doing the line art and did the body by mistake.

Anyhow, thanks for the input. I won't likely redraw him just yet, but I can already envision a better version now, thanks again!

I think thats pretty good for shooting from the hip! LOL. Its so funny though, i was also thinking up ideas for a wizerd of Oz game. I read this article on cracked.com about the "good" witch glenda being the real person causeing all the problems in Oz, and it actually made alot of sence. Ill see if i can get the link to that posted here, maybe it will inspire you further. Im also open if you want to bounce some ideas off of me. Good luck with it!!!

Yeah I am doing a mash-up so there will be multiple fair tales in one, Oz is the last one to be included, and the final story.

Hey thanks for the link, I am likely not to check it out, as I want to base it as close to the books as possible, along with all the other fair tales I am doing, but the effort is very appreciated.

Have you ever seen Tin Man? That was awesome. (I don't mind highjacking this thread for fairy tale talk, heh).

Thanks for the kind words, that was my first digital render, and from my hand drawing none the less. I started another one recently straight in GIMP with no scanning and penning, Coming along ok so far.

Yeah totally a fox. It's a fox with raccon markings I think. I generally try to make stuff with no outside influence or insight, without reference material and such. I just close my eyes and picture something then try to make it. I could never make what I imagined, now I can, it's a really cool feeling.

The fox is a character race I am doing concept art for someone's game. I also drew an ape, a bug, and a few others I cant remember. But that is first straight in Gimp. Thanks again!
