Rpg Maker Cliches

Recommended Posts

What cliches do you see mostly in RPG Maker games? For me it is that you can always buy Apples in the first town you visit, the exception being Legionwood, which it is actually relevant that there are no apples to buy in the beginning of the game.

I have never played one where you buy apples.

RTP Graphics & Audio.

A bigger problem is probably Arshes as main character.

my most seen cliche is the heroes who are destined to become great, ie the farm boy / city girl who have no training becoming the greatest power for good. It's also a problem with amature literature. It's a bad trope.

It was one of the reasons I loved Final Fantasy 6 so much, cause most of the characters were trained soldiers/mercinaries, they did what they did cause that was who they were.

also games that use the base RPGmaker base equipment/items/spells, it just shows a complete lack of orignality.

The bad guy is always the first person you see doing bad guy things.

I'm not quiet sure what you mean by that? Usually the main villain is the first you see doing bad things cause the writers want you to know whom it is you're fighting against. This isn't an amature mistake, it's to insite player motivation. You see the same thing done in Professional writing, if the protaginest doesn't have a relatable reason to move foreward then the story stagnates. Using the main villain to push the protaginest foreward is usually the easiest way to convey that to the reader/player.

I've done writing workshops in the past about making believable Heroes and Villains, I might post one here to help people out.

There has to be some hope in the world. Conflict is what drives the game. But being a bad guy would n=be refreshing.

Someone has to or else it's Game Over. :P

Not so sure about that one...

What would we swing out swords at?

It just seems to me that there has to be some development on the bad guys side. People aren't just evil for the sake of it, there are things leading up to it, my biggest example being Aizen, where he is the nicest guy ever and then bam! Evilest guy in the world.

The name Final Fantasy attached to any game just to make it sell.

i honestly hate using default RTP music and sprites.

I'll use Sailor Moon sprites and music, before I'll resort to RTP lol.

But people need to realize not every one as the ability to make their own resources, requests are always a joke on any RMXP/Game Making community, and as for non-RTP some are not complete (i.e. battler, but no character sheet).

So true. That's why pursued making my own resources and try my best to fulfill others' requests.

Sometimes people just don't know how to help. /sarcasm

But on the other hand, designers have to learn to work with what they have. Even RTP can look good if presented properly. I like the ACE RTP. Looks more well done than VX. I wouldn't mind playing a game with ACE RTP.

ON TOPIC:

Mistakenly unleashing a dark evil on mankind. Just saw a game a few minutes ago with this as its story. Turned me off faster than a grandma in a bikini.
