I can't find my site in google

Recommended Posts

well what is your site? the url?

usually the reason you can't find you site on google is several reasons.

1st if you're using a free service provider like http://mysite.freesites.com its usually cause you didn't add any 'meta data' for the search engine to find the pages. it's a common mistake.

2nd, if you have your own domain it would be because you never added yourself to their index list. If you goto google.com they have a bunch of free resources for this. But it's upto the site manager (ie You) to get it done.

It's not all automatic lol

My advice is check this page out http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34444

I'd blame it on meta data/ tags just like you said.

You actually have add your site to google yourself pal. and Yahoo and bing too. Did you do that? Otherwise you won't see it on their list.

That's not true. Google can find your website, but you will have to post the URL to places. I know that my business' website is on google, but that's because we posted a lot about our opening on sites like yahoo, LinkedIn, and other business related places. The best thing you can do in order to get your site shown on google is to first to a bit of advertising yourself.

Just make sure not to spam.

It's interesting how people think they have to manually submit their site to google :P Surely that's counterproductive. The amount of resources that google has you can be rest assured that their indexing system is damn complicated, and very very smart.

Lets look over some of the essentials that you need to cover, using your website http://dayofthedarkness.webs.com/

First lets look at the title tag and the meta description tag. I'll show you what's on your website, and show you using mine where these entries show up on google:

70797895.png

So first up, the title tag = "Day of Darkness" and this is what will show up on google when you homepage is listed. It's the name of your game, which isn't incredibly popular, so you should add in some more keywords, but don't go over the top with keywords: remember that humans read this and it has to make sense. Something like "Day of Darkness - Free RPG Maker XP game", or something (thats probably not the best suggestion :P)

Similarly with your meta description tag (im sure there is somewhere to configure this on your free host) it needs be filled out, it needs to be 150 characters or less, needs to contain keywords, a decent description and be enticing some people are going to click it.

Next up is your h1 tag, which currently looks like this on yourpage:

<h1 class="w-header-text-container">
			<div class="w-header-text w-header-title ">

					Day of the Darkness

			</div>
		</h1>

I'm guessing this is the same as your page's name in terms of configuring this. Same thing applies to the title - keywords and descriptive. Think about how people would find your page, what would they type in google?

You hear people saying that you need to submit your site to google. Do this my making an account at web master tools (google this), but you need to be able to validate your website either by uploading a file or adding a line of code to the source code. If you can't do that on your host then forget about it. But if you can, make the account and then submit a sitemap. You may find this useful to create your sitemaps: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

To see where you can improve on other areas of SEO, use this tool: http://analyzer.pearanalytics.com/ (not sure if it works for subdomains)

You can also see what pages google has indexed by using the "site:" operator:

site:http://dayofthedarkness.webs.com/

Looks like your site has nothing right now.

Umm how do you exactly change the source code, I don't use HTML, I'm good at other coding e.g. Java,C++ but i never used HTML before

I'm not sure. I'm guessing you don't have access to your files directly? I assumed you're using some free host and the ability to edit these things is bound to be around somewhere, depends on the service you're using.

If you can do Java and C++ then the html is going to be nothing for you. Particularly this stuff, its not programming, its just a bunch of tags. For what I've told you, you merely need to change values between quotes, there's no programming involved.

I've never added my sites to any search engine and I can find them pretty well.

I'm a domain name whore so Google knows me...as well as yahoo because I buy my domain names through them (free adding to their search engine).

That's a pretty poor service :/ You should consider moving. I hear wordpress is pretty good.

Wordpress can be very good and free with what you can do. SonicRetro has their entire website+forum on a wordpress and we all know about that website. Reminds me of my old wordpress blog where I started to put up artwork, but sadly I stopped it. I'd definately check it out Albertibay, here's a couple helpfull links below.

What service does GDU use Marked.?

It doesn't use a service in this sense. Here, you get your website hosted free but you have to use their software and you get some subdomain. You usually do not have access to all of your files.

GDU on the other hand doesn't use any service in that sense. We're on a proper webhost (supplied by isaacsol) and use a PHP framework (refer to the about us page) that I used to build our own unique system that allows the forum software to plug into. My system has a lot of work before the forum's output is 100% correct, as you've noticed today with your feedback topics.
