Boss Battle music help

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Recently i decided to attempt another game idea. but i didn't want to use the default music for it, simply because i wanted to try and put my own spin on the music. so i wrote my own.

I wrote the final boss battle music first, i don't know why i did, but i felt i needed to write that first, and branch off the other battle music off that. the problem however, is i don't think i captured the tone i wanted to give for a final boss fight. so i inputted the music into RPVX and the music alone with the boss fight imagery didn't seem to fit. so i tried changing the pitch, and to my surprise, VX changed the pitch, but also sped up the music a bit.

that's not to say i was expecting that, but doing the same thing to the default music didn't seem to speed it up when making the pitch higher or lower. So i replicated the results and made 3 seperate audio files which i will display here.

What i want to ask the community is does this sound like battle music, and does it sound fitting for a boss fight?

Please upload those tracks to a soundcloud profile. I don't want to HAVE to download them just to help you out.

It's normal. Unless your musics are MIDI files, there's no way to change pitch without altering the playing speed as well (one of many reasons why I favour MIDI over sound formats).

I think not, to me it sounds more like an ambient theme that would be played right before the final boss. I expect a final boss theme to put a lot of pressure on the player - after all, the success of all those hours of playing is at stake, isn't it? An example I can give of a final boss theme that did put me in the mood is The Extreme (FF8's). It starts off so troubling while you're drifting through space, then the boss appears and the music suddenly gets wild. Here's a link:

.

The theme's still good, though, and would fit nicely on earlier scenes of the game.

That is one of the things I love about RPG Maker 2. You can change the pitch and tempo separately. It really spoiled me.

i agree with you, i think now that i listen to it more, it would probably fit into the meeting before fighting the final boss. I'll have to try and think of something else for a final boss battle. but inspiration doesn't come easily for me, so that will take time.
