GDU is looking for exclusive projects

Recommended Posts

With development of the games section set to start within a few weeks, we are going to need a few really impressive projects to launch the section with. Therefore we are seeking some members or teams who want to be one of the first people to have their games hosted by us.

We want to make a really good impression on launch, so we are looking for some high quality projects.

The requirements are

  • A high quality project
  • Must have a playable of demo
  • Cannot have its own website (more info)
  • Can by made by any engine
  • You must be able to provide particulars - screenshots, storylines, character bios (if applicable). The games section is about presentation, afterall
  • Anyone can submit a game, active member or not

Benefits of submitting your game

  • Full future features of the games section
  • The possibility of being featured on the homepage and other advertising opportunities
  • Your games page(s) will be displayed using the latest standards of HTML markup allowing for superior out of the box on-page SEO
  • Customization features including altering meta title and description, and on-page customization features, and all future features that may not be readily available to new user accounts.
  • Hosting of your game, including versioning and easy uploading
  • Tracking of your visitor behavior and downloads

If you are interested, please send me a PM. The PM should contain the demo, but what is equally important is presentation particulars as stated above. If you are interested but are still working on a game, please follow the topic and you will be notified in the future.

Please note the launch is some time away and as such any submission is for future consideration. This will not be the only topic to recruit. Please pass this on if you know anyone who would be interested.

He said "Need not", so I think he means that the project doesn't have to have been posted on here before if it's a secret project or something.

Yeah that's right Tom. I included that so guests know that anyone can submit a project. I can see how that may be interpreted, I changed it.

Sure, why not. I expected you to submit your game. I thought you might consider more of a benefit to you rather than helping me out :P

I'd love to enter mine, just it's going to take time finishing a demo. I'm making good progress so far, but there's no urgent rush as you said which is a relief :)

What about exclusive versions? because my project ShinSword has a Dark and Light editions, each from a different point of view making each game different.

No reason both can't be submitted.

Yep, there's plenty of time. I made this topic well in advance. I won't even finish my exams for another 6 days. But don't forget to PM me when you have something, I'll post a reminder. It would be good if you followed this topic so you get notified of any updates.

Hope to finish my game soon =_=

No rush if you're interested :P Only a demo is needed.

Updated the first post.

Does this mean that I must remove my game from other sites. I'm not sure about removing my game from other sites. My youtube ad sense is progressing.

You certainly do not have to remove youtube videos. We want the projects that will be in here before release to be exclusive to this site, whether or not they need to be afterwards is undermined. When I say exclusive I don't mean that any other content relating to the game means submission is prohibited, the rule is mainly aimed at websites dedicated to those games, because this system aims to replace those. The purpose of the section itself is to publish the game and make it easy for game developers to showcase their game without the need for any web development skills. The rule is aimed at not having the same content here and elsewhere on the internet, that would pointless. However, that does not include forums because it would be harmful to that game maker if he were not allowed to post a topic on a forum trying to get attention to it.

The ultimate goal is to provide a system that is far more superior than a free website you'd start yourself, superior that a website you wrote even you had knowledge of web dev, and all of this can be done by point and click. The output will be far superior than what a forum topic can give you, and will be primed for SEO. There will be a bunch of exposure/getting noticed features available as well. Hopefully, eventually, you will want to remove it from other sites and just link here.

You may even get the chance to use your own google analytics code to monitor traffic ;)

Mmm if we're thinking the same thing then yeah. It's pretty much going to be like a website itself. I've got more than a bunch of things planned. Remember I've mentioned along the way a team management system built into the games section? I have a bunch of inter-related ideas too including systems for recruiting as well as pages for "studios" (I'm not sure what to call these, like what's in your signature). All of these can have their own sections but directly relate to the games section. For example, if you have a studio listed on the site, then you can select this for your game in the games section and it will show up on your published games page with a link to your studio page(s). Stuff like that.

I'd love to help out, sadly I'm still working on my concept and likely not going to have anything to show for it for quite a long time. Hopefully I can have a demo ready by the time you start actually getting projects together for the games section, not really likely though there is a lot of work between now and then.

Yeah, studios just sounded cool at the moment lol,

Well, all my rpg maker games are no where near demostration stages(maybe sanctuary) but I am working on a Game Editor 'castle defense' type game which may be ready soon.

There certainly isn't. Where do you intend to sell your game, and how far away is the game from completion? I only ask because it makes sense to provide a system where people can also sell their projects, but the immediate focus is on free indie games.

i intended it to be sold online

and its still far from completion since i'm focusing more on making an improved gameplay e.g. minigames

but i already have the story anyway

and i am pretty confident i can finish this game my main inspiration is Final Fantasy

ones i'm done making the gameplay i can finish my game in a few months

I was just asking for future refference

Ok, good to know. The restrictions for what I'm looking for in this topic are different from those after the games section is launched. This topic is all about the games that will be available for download on launch. After then, there will be still be rules but they won't be so stringent.

Sounds good :> Otherwise I hope to entice your submission post-release :D

I understand it may be quite the risk to some game developers to hold a promise of exclusiveness (even if in a loose sense), but if the risk pays off there will be many benefits for that project, most importantly promotion. Upon release of the games, I plan to display "featured" games on the homepage, which will be completely remade and redesigned from its current state.

There will also be new advertising space available to all published projects where game developers will be able to promote their games across the global ad space on the site. I'm thinking of giving each project submission a certain amount of advertising pageviews (or clicks) for free, an opportunity for some early promotion, and further ad space "purchased" with points accrued from other contributions on the site.

I gotta stop releasing a planned feature for every new post I make... :P But the point is, there's more in it for the game developers than just a showcase of their game.

Omar and I already have a completed project that we can send to you for debut. We just need to consult a little. A question. You stated that the page will be up in a few weeks. How long is a "few weeks"? Are we looking at 2-3 weeks? Not rushing or anything. I just need a time frame so I can better work on another project.

Omar just sent me a PM and he's OK with the idea. I will also send you a PM, Marked, for our submission. It'll have to wait though because I have to get to sleep. Eeee! I'm so excited!

I said that development will begin within a few weeks, all I have right now are blueprints and a few resources to utilize. I have been trapped in textbooks for months... The issue is that I do have a full time job, and that job is web development (which means my working day can be stretched out the entire day, and also wears me out from more computer usage), so how fast I can develop in my spare time is yet to be seen. Therefore I cannot give an accurate date (thus, a risk). However, my unofficial goal is around new years. It's complicated by the fact that I have other things to develop on GDU before the games section, but that will only make it better, and can develop these simultaneously.

So we're looking at within 2 months. I'm not sure if that's better or worse for you.

I look forward to your submission :)

Oh and there will also be consultation regarding the publication of the games. I will have the system live for all game developers who submitted their game to have access before the release.

That's fine with me. It actually makes it better. Because the project I'm giving you has two parts and only the first part is done. But now, Omar and I can get the second part done and release both at the same time.

No need to rush yourself. Can't rush perfection. ;)

I will send you the info on the first part tonight and if I don't have the second part done in time, it can be released after I guess.
