What do you think about a news forum where GDU keeps you update with all types of news and current events going on in the indie game development world?

It would be a sub-forum of the main news and there could be a feed on the homepage, forum index, etc.

Well, if this is a universal game development site then yes. Because since the site is meant more than just RPG maker software, it would be nice to get feed on other Game development software and resources.

Great idea! Maybe have some people who are "journalists" that go around from site to site (I know great RM sites) and collect stories then post them in that section. Say like 3 people. That way, there's no need to overly moderate the section like all the others.

Well my role these days is the technical guy :( The idea definitely requires some keen members to jump on board who are out and about in the gamedev community. And yup, news is definitely reserved for staff members.

You know some great RM sites? I feel like there's more to the sentence :)

Hmm, I'd say no to this idea, I have a couple of lets players on youtube that keep me up to date on gaming news, I wouldn't bother reading a forum when I can just listen to it. A gaming news vlog, now that's a more plausible idea. However there are certain disadvantages to it, like being too linear. So it would be best to do both, a team to keep an up to date news database, and a team of vloggers to cover the different news categories, ultimately speaking. For starters, you should make a recruitment post to attract people for the news section and vlogging. If people are interested you can make the forum section.

I think this is a great idea. Heres the place i go for my gaming news. http://www.pcgamer.com/

Not much on the game dev side of things but once in a great while there will be an article about game dev. I wouldnt go there for game dev info tho.

Its a nice place to see how big indie games can get. They always do articles about indie games. They did one about a RMXP game called to the moon or something.

Not everyone likes videos. I personally like to read for my news and hate letsplays.

Well you always tell me about the site needs more active members and more of other things. I am not sure that the site is active enough for such. but you can always give it a test run. best of luck.

That was a really bipolar response :P Which do you mean? I don't think the site needs to be active if its just a handful of news-makers. We could always start it off with linking to other news articles.

Yes you could point to other sites, but that's not very professional, and quite honestly makes my spine crawl.

I was really confused about my point of view and couldnt decided but a few mins later I decided and jumped on board. It could be very benificial but it could be a flop too but I hope not. To help make it not a flop I am on board with it Marked.

I think its a good idea, its helps when you don't have to look for obscure details about updates in software or releases and advancements that might go otherwise unknown.

Good idea but could be a flop very easily, I think it would strongly rely on how active/ accurate the updates are.

Lol your misunderstandings of my posts are funny sometimes. I was referring to your original post and subsequent post being the opposite of each other.

The serious part of my response

Yes they were and it was due to having time to think and ponder the logic of the situation and it possible outcome and effects not being bipolar. After having time to think about it I made a decision and came back and edited my post to concur with my new opinion. also I just don't like being referred to in any way as bipolar. Now back to the topic.

Back to the topic at hand

So are you recruiting members for this? Is it going to be a e-mag of some sort? What are you planning on doing Marked and how soon since the world didnt end last night.

Yup, I'd be keen to hear from members who would want to get on board. My vision for this would be to recruit members who are interested in writing for readers. Just like a blog, but slightly more serious. Aside from your general "Oh this is interesting, here's a link" there would be taking a certain piece of news and writing about it with your own opinions and personality.

What we're doing here is not just looking for people to give us free content to make our website more popular. There will be benefits to publishers (lets call them publishers) in the form of recognition and readers (which is why you write anything, really), and we want to build the facilities to make that happen as part of forming a central hub for game development, and game dev news is a big part of that because there will be opportunities that people will miss out on coz they never heard about it.

There should definitely be a newsletter for this :)
