Marked 197 Report post Posted December 18, 2012 The media coverage on this story has been bugging me for a while and I'm curious to see what you guys think. This is the nurse in England who committed suicide after she fell for a prank call by radio hosts pretending to be the queen, and she gave out confidential information regarding a royal patient. The media has been ripping into the radio hosts and all sympathies towards the dead nurse, who left a note blaming the radio hosts. Do you think that this is right? In my opinion the nurse must have been an extremely sensitive person, and as the radio hosts said, no one could ever expect such an event to happen from a hoax call. So do the radio host deserve so much hate and blame? The way I see it is nurse was married with two teenage children, their lives are screwed. The radio hosts have lost their jobs and because of the note blaming them they will have to carry that for the rest of their lives. Is that because they made the prank call, or because an extremely sensitive person picked up the phone? The media has clearly chosen the former. To commit suicide and leave behind your family and cause that trauma to them, for your own issues, is just outright selfish.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted December 18, 2012 As stupid as the prank was, that is all it was. I do not think she should have killed herself over it. And there is never a reason to ever kill yourself, especially when you have children you will be leaving behind. It doesn't matter how old they are, they will always be your babies. RageMage 5 Report post Posted December 18, 2012 I'm sorry I have to say that really both are at fault. Having a patient like that in a hospital she should have checked all of the facts before giving out such information and even then it's a toss up as most of the time information like that should only be given out in person. The radio hosts honestly are also at fault for doing something so immature as to prank call her to get information, just sounds desperate. I do believe that they should have lost his job over it, not for her death but for doing something so childish. I have to agree there is never a good reason to take a life, your own not being exempt from that rule. To leave that kind of stress on her family I feel that suicide was a poor choice, and making a choice like that over something so small sounds fishy to me there had to be a history of mental illness for her to do something so lightly. While I do think both are at fault I feel that the radio hosts are less at fault for her taking her own life, though as humans we do love having someone to blame and nobody really wants to blame someone who has died and nobody wants to take the blame, so if anyone should be blamed take a note from my book, "It's always the cat's fault, they don't care if they get blamed anyways."
