Did any get RMXP to work on Windows 8?

Recommended Posts

Okay as the title says did anyone get it to work. I've tried the same way you get it to work on Windows 7, and RMXP just froze. RMVX and RMVXA works, but this engine doesn't and since Windows 8 is new, I can't really find any fix for this.

well, when I had Windows 8 RMXP installed pretty normal if you had the compatibility mode for XP like Pol said above, also have the check box 'run as administrator' checked. Problem is that W8 is fairly new so it's not set on whether or not which programs run that well with it. That and Windows 8 Admin accounts aren't really Admin accounts at all.

However even with all that it would take way too long to start up after clicking the icon.

when I had my friend wipe my laptop and install W7 RMXP installed and ran with no problems by setting the compatibility mode to Windows XP (service pack 2) and with the 'run as admin' box checked. Started up, ran and playtested games normally.

Windows 8 and Windows vista are not even remotely close to being the same operating system. Only thing the same is the Windows brand. Like comparing Windows 98 or Me to Windows Vista/7. So no it won't work.

Did you try running it in compatability mode for xp or 7?

It's funny when people seems not to read the OP correctly, and ask a questions that the OP already said he try already.

If it's not working for you then I don't know, maybe you skipped a step or maybe there's something screwing up in your OS in general.

Try cleaning your computer, disc defrag/cleanup, antivirus and malware scans, see if anything with the OS like drivers or what not need updating, then reinstall RMXP and run it using the recommended settings mentioned previously.

If it still doesn't work then I don't know what to tell you, as the above recommendations seem to work for everyone else. Windows 8 is fairly new and, for the most part, it's pretty bad because it's new, so worst case scenario (if you didn't want to) is to downgrade to W7. If you're stuck with 8, then you might just have to settle for not using RMXP. Even with compatibility mode on W8 RMXP runs so slow you're probably better off because it's much more stable on 7.

For all I know, 8 might not even be that much similar to 7, so we're not really sure how many XP/7 programs can or cannot run on 8.

I have Windows 8 on my brand new laptop not my PC. So I don't have any issue not being able to use it on my PC and why would I waste my time downgrading my laptop just because a crappy piece of junk Enterbrain calls an engine doesn't want to work on Windows 8. Plus the above recommendation only work for Window 7 users, I've never heard of anyone on the RM communities using windows 8.

Plus Besides the desktop, how Windows 8 works is completely different. You can't read about it, you have to play with it to know the difference. If no one knows the answer thats fine, I just don't want people repeating the samething over again. I'll just wait until someone has found a fix.

I just tried xp on windows 8 on a virtual machine and got it to work fine. All i had to do is run as admin and set the compatability to windows xp sp3.

I know i always had problems installing xp on peoples computers that wernt custom built or they didnt install the os them selves and using the OEM version. Always had troubles with OEM versions of any os.

Didnt know thats exactly what you meant sicne theres more than 1 way to get it to work in win 7. Got to provide more details.

I could also use more info on what part it froze on. Did it freeze before it asked you to use the free trial/enter product key or did you get past that part and were about to actually use the program?
