I wish they would Upgrade RMXP

I have always said that RMVX Ace was nothing more than an updated version of VX with an added word in the title to trick people into thinking it was new.

 

So if they made an "updated" version of RMXP what would you like to see in it?

 

I would like to see:

 

1) An extra map layer.

2) Latest RGSS (even though I don't script).

3) Vehilce support with no script needed.

4) And I guess any cool upgrades they added in Ace from it's VX version.

5) Add On's -- To allow others to add features in it (would great for when the developers stopped updating or supporting it)

True, just wanted to see you reaction/opinion on it. Also it is true that Enterbrain should upgrade these software, but since they only care about money and not their customers it's not going to happen. Trust me if they cared about their customers, RMXP/VX would be up to par with RMVXace, when it comes to performance and coding (since RMVXace runs on ruby 1.9.3 and RMXP/VX runs on ruby 1.8.7). Only thing were going to see upgraded is Blizzard's ARC. Whenever that'll be finished, but thats more of a 3rd party engine and not the real thing.

  • Ruby 1.9.3 or higher
  • Better mapping system, one with a combinations of VX and XP, plus extra features
  • improved database (with comments in every category)

I would also like to see an extra mapping layer and rgss3.

>Custom resolution with auto sizing menus(cause manually changing every script is a pain)

>Pixel movement toggle

>Trigger zones(like i could draw a circle and that whole pixel based circle would be the event trigger)

>Mapping layer system like the RPGToolkit

>Comments for items, enemies, etc...(like VX)

>Default 4 lines for text event

 

Not sure what else i would really have.

There's so much I would like to see changed, that I couldnt possibly list it all off the top of my head. However, here is a short list of some of the bigger ones I would like.

  • Side/Front View Active Time/Turn Based Battle system with RTP Support for either, and toggleable.
  • Built-In character generator, from frankenspriting to faceset generators.
  • Built-In Story Planner.

In short, I'd like to see some things brought in for ease of use, as well as more options available to those who are experts, to more ably customize their game. I've been around RPG Maker since Don Miguel's port years ago, and the problem I have, as I'm sure many others have had, is finding and using resources that are freely available to use, not too commonly used, and fit the theme and feel of the game. So, having some of that automated or simplified would make things much easier for the non-power users of the client. However, I've also seen amazing things done with scripts, and anything to make it easier to use and more streamlined for scripters would be a blessing for all.

 

To me, RMXP was the perfect blend of good and bad. It was balanced to say the least, but it was far from a really polished game development kit aimed at both casual and hardcore game creators.

There are a lot of things that scripts can help pull off, and a lot of things that we just cant fix.  Things like performance issues and editor specific things that scripts can not get around.

 

My short wish list for RMXPAce

 

Flat Sprites

Non Chibi Character Generator

4th Mapping Layer

Framerate Optimizer

 

They've added quite a few nice things, like the ability to warp and distort backgrounds and sprites, and I wish we could do those things without the perofrmance hits in xp.  I've also seen some of the most incredible Lighting Effects pulled off in VX/Ace that simply will not run on XP.  Things like that limit scripters ability to overcome and change many things to suit their needs.  Ive done my damnedest to take care of crap that causes game hangs in my scripts (Caterpillar), but really, I should never have needed to do those things to begin with.

I always wanted everything to be upgraded. If they actually did that, and I mean really re-amped it all, then I would gladly shell out money for it. There are a few things I wanted once I got used to XP and stuff.

 

  • Extra Mapping Layers. Perhaps one that didn't have a square mapping system, so that people could place vines over rocks and things like that.
  • Updated Item system; comments etc etc
  • The ability to re-organize maps.
  • A massive update to the text system
  • Resolution changes.

to be honest you would think the ability to change the screen resolution would have been a basic thing. That's what I wish XP had.

I really don't know how RMVX Ace is inferior at this point. The addition of region ids, ability to create custom stat formulas, and better control over actor funtions make it the most versatile of the series so far. I still miss the layer-based mapping of XP, but that's about the only thing I miss from XP when compared to Ace.

 

VX was a mistake, so Enterbrain came out with Ace to remedy most of its problems, so I don't think it was a matter of not caring what consumers think. As a company they need to make something that consumers are willing to buy, so it's impractical to ignore feedback.

Well it practically has everything necessary really .I guess if I was going to add some things it would be the ability to choose your battle system without additional scripts.So you would have the ability to choose whether you wanted a more Phantasy Star 4 feel to your game or a more FF style feel to it.From there you might be able to decide whether you want a ATB, or TBS  game.The ability to choose what to call your character's magic section would be nice.And making a overdrive system standard would be a great touch.

VXAce should have been XPAce. wtf are enterbrain thinking? Nothing because they hate progress and have no idea what they're doing.

 

I would love to see the notes and extra effects systems that are in Ace be added to an XP update. Unfortunately this will never happen because enterbrain is stupid.

(Oh, crimson inferno already said all that)

So we're all just dreaming here then...

It's okay, we're a pretty quiet forum so it's not really a big deal usually.

 

 

So...It seems that #ku doesn't actually want to post in this topic. I waited all day yesterday and no one posted. Posting here is no longer necroposting, but it seems like there isn't anything to actually add. If you have something to add to this topic you have 3 choices:

 

1. PM a mod or admin and ask for the topic to be reopened. (Do not use the report feature for this, it is for reporting spam, rule breaking, and douchbaggery, not contacting us.)

 

2. Make a new topic for this. You should probably wait till this one has died and is too old to post in without necroposting though.
