sabao 2 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 Clicking the logo leads to free porn. January 14, 2010 So for those who actually still believe this game will be completed, thank you. If you missed the news, this project is undergoing a total revamp due to unavoidable circumstances. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Honestly, we're enjoying the whole re-thinking process and re-exploring the old concept. After all that's said and done we hope to begin actually building the game soon. Maybe this time we'll get something playable out. Maybe. ippus and I are mostly still spitballing ideas with one another, but for anyone interested in keeping up with the minute updates we have, I opened up a small blog for the project. It's not much, I just needed a place online to place all my notes on, and most of which are private. I might release some things there from time to time for everyone's pleasure though. I put up a few of our new sketches there just a while ago to give everyone an idea of how the characters look now. I must say I'm very thrilled about the new designs. It's been a while since ippus last drew anything for Steel Hearts, and her style's developed in the last few years since. http://studiopnb.xepher.net/steelhearts Alien beings known as the Phantoms have driven man to the brink of extinction. With their numbers increasing rapidly around the world, what's left of humanity are forced to live in cities called havens, under the constant protection of the military. The government could only do so much, however. Time passed and the war for survival raged on. Eventually, the government was no longer able to sustain its armies, and the cities found themselves defenseless. As a solution, private corporations within the havens were commissioned to lead in its defense. While some corporations in some cities took it upon themselves to protect the peace in their land in the most traditional of manners, some others took a less prudent approach. New weapons were constantly being pushed out, and military academies were replacing schools. Children willing to enlist were taken in with open arms and those orphaned, almost forcefully drafted. Ryan was thirteen when his family was brutally murdered in a Phantom attack. Having nowhere else to go, he was taken in by a church before being drafted into Weyland Millitary Academy. Our story follows the life of Ryan as he trains himself to be a soldier and defender of the city. Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 I clicked the logo but all I got was some stupid spam site, you should fix that. The game looks pretty cool; I'll look into it some more. ^_^

Marked 197 Report post Posted January 15, 2010 It's a shame you lost the original project file, though it looks like it was for the best. Sounds like a harddrive thing, but here's a script that you may find helpful: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/index.php/rmxp/rgss1-scripts/item/misc-systems/auto-backup-.html The concept art is amazing. I think you could go commercial with this stuff too. There's always a shortage spriters. Though your promise of free porn was a lie  The storyline is interesting, not your classic RPG with swords and bows etc. This is definitely a project to keep an eye on. sabao 2 Report post Posted January 15, 2010 We could, and honestly we'd like to if we could for the sake of lining our pockets some and, I dunno, resume/portfolio material but right now it's too early to call. Spriters who'll work for free are harder to find but there seems to be plenty who'll do it for money. That's actually what got us thinking about it. If we're going to shell out cash then maybe going commercial wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Chief 30 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 Damn am I a busy fool, but how much money are we talking for some pixel art?
zane203 8 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 are you going to explain the school system in the game x.X im looking at a 17 yo sophomore and a 17 yo senior, and a 13 yo freshman xD. im just curious =3 sweet art by the way. very original.
sabao 2 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 @Chief: I was hoping to get quotes from the spriters themselves. We're only just trying our hands at going commercial so we don't know how rates are for hands for hire. @zane203 The school system was terminated to keep the project simple (and more likely to actually come out with something playable). The game will be a very traditional Strategy RPG with side quests/scenarios triggered by choices made during scenes in-between battles. The story itself is still very school-themed, but as far as living the life of a school boy's concerned, that's been cut down significantly this time around. Anyway, we've decided that the final game will in fact be commercial. We're releasing a free tech demo though, to hype the project up some and hopefully pull any talent for hire out there to our cause (This is also an elaborate ploy to get people to donate to the development of the project, but none of you saw that.). Chief 30 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Well, As I am busy, my prices will not be very low. $3.00-$5.00 per sprite. $15.00-$25.00 per tile sheet. (consisting of about 100 tiles) $0.50 per icon. anything I missed? Sorry bout the prices, but theyre actually quite low compared to others. Most pixel artists would charge like $50-$100 for a tile sheet, but seeing as how youre new to commercial projects, I'm giving you a huge discount, as I believe your budget may not be that big. btw, these are starting prices. once the work load gets bigger and bigger, the prices start rising. supply and demand. Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 And, what I've seen from Chief, he has a very high standard of work.
sabao 2 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 @Chief: Sounds like a wonderful deal, actually. I'd be very willing to give more if the situation demands it though. Thank you so much for the consideration. Do you have any samples on you right now I can show my partner?
Chief 30 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 this is all I really have right now. Ive got a few little bits hear and there, but this is my best thus far: I'm in the beginning stages of redoing that sprite. Its harder when working with larger pieces.
sabao 2 Report post Posted January 19, 2010 Yeah, I feel for you, kinda. We tried doing larger sprites at one point too. We probably won't anytime soon though. We're working with standard sized sprites this time. Seeing as the mechs are supposed to be 10 feet tall but are represented in sprite form so small, the tiles will have to be scaled down in proportion as well. That's mostly what you will be dealing with as tile artist, if ever. Would that be alright with you?
Chief 30 Report post Posted January 19, 2010 Sure, im game, as long as there is green... lol$
sabao 2 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Not anytime soon, we're planning to release a demo without hired help first to test the waters. :P

Ragnyrok 3 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 I really like the storyline and the setting of this project. And, the way it's all displayed is very nice. Excellent work on that. Looking forward to hearing more about Steel Hearts. I suspect to write an article for my site about it, soon. In the meantime, I've bookmarked your website. God speed with the developing!
