Machine Made: Rebirth

Machine Made: Rebirth Sat Jan. 16 (Scripting Saturday — 3 fun rmxp tricks that take 30 seconds or less to use)

Hey guys — ladies and gentlemen, gamers of all shapes sizes and colours, welcome to the Machine Made: Rebirth blog, a place where I show you some interesting things that have happened in the world of game development, hopefully things that are relevant to me and relevant to you. Today I would like to spend a little bit of time talking to you about scripting, but first I would like to talk a little bit about some things I've noticed… and some things that I'd like to accomplish here or present for you guys specifically regarding my progress towards releasing a finished game.

We would like to at some time move towards getting a Steam Greenlight… we want the download, install and update process to be easier… we basically want to see ourselves make a deeper involvement in terms of content that's going to be available to the community… including news about the upcoming sequel, that is in fact already in development. I'd like to apologize for not getting our gameplay videos updated as of yet, things have been crazy in terms of the research I've had to do in terms of what it's like to actually try to sell a game… it's a mind boggling process and it does take some time.

Like the apples that grow on real trees compared to the apples that grew on this digital tree I intend to artificially speed up the process of telling you about this game by making a lot of blog posts explaining what I'm doing.

Here's the first script that takes 30 seconds or less — it's a global speed change for your game! Do you want your character to speed up or slow down relative to the environment for any reason? This is a very easy and functional script that can give your game a unique feel by changing how many frames rmxp is running at. Try it out, add some conditions to it. I hope you enjoy.

Here's a common event for changing your move speed with a button press… it's good for dashing, with a few conditional branches it can be turned into sprint shoes or a dashing puzzle… try it out! It's pretty crazy what you can do with button press scripts.

Change your character's max hp and mp during battle with events and states… they can be temporary increases or permanent increases brought on by triggers or equipment… it takes 30 seconds or less, and can open up a whole new field of spells that change life or mp totals!

We're going to get some new gameplay videos up and get our new release available just as soon as we can — all of our pages will be updated once I've had a look at it and made sure it's okay.
Until then, I hope you guys are as excited about the sequel as I am.

Cheers,
Ryan
