Machine Made: Rebirth Wed Jan. 13 (Items & Skills Wednesday)

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog, where I talk about cool gaming stuff of all different kinds. Today, I'd like to take just a little bit of time to talk about some of the neater RPGesque skills and items that I have invented or stumbled across in my time at the computer.

 

Here's a delightful add-on that came with our battle system that I really haven't spent enough time with — it's my favourite steal script because it allows for small chances of having various different items stolen! It's absolutely cool for the type of game that I'm making and I hope to have it expanded to include every single enemy in the game eventually!

What do you guys think about names for the basic elemental spells? I've used firestorm, inferno, thunderclap, flood, typhoon, tremor and earthquake, and I'm fairly happy with those. I really don't want to have Spell 1, Spell 2, Spell 3… or anything like that it seems a little … craptacular. Even having elemental spells that become more powerful over time, I feel like I want to include extra effects and variations as the spell levels up… a chance to stun, deal damage over time, steal hitpoints or something like that, depending on the element of the original. Anyone play Crisis Core? That's what I'd like the skill system to feel like here… and of course the best spells will only come from tech scrolls!

 

Regarding items… don't neglect to think of clever or creative uses for Event Items! I've used mine as recipes for crafting more powerful items, a communicator tool for travelling to the HQ, Maps, Letters written by NPCs and more! Don't have an endless supply of Keys and Sacred Idol Statues or something — items should always feel more special than Currency! It's a very important rule.

 

Does anyone have any cool ideas about how you would do a Cursed Item? I've had some ideas floating around but haven't come up with much…

Does it just like bind to your inventory and give you an automatic negative status for carrying it until it can be removed? I was thinking something LIKE that, but I'm still not exactly sure how it's going to turn out.
