Risk of making free games.

After signing in a deal with Sun-Studios.
The game designer Daniel Sun told me something important to me and all his fans. As you can see, Mr. Sun used to make free games and sponsors/advertisements gave him a decent amount of money.

However that Market moved on into the mobile market. He said to me

"Making money from web games involves adverts and sponsorship. This effectively means taking a big poo on my games with a thick consistency of advertisements and company branding. Sponsors would pay me for ad rights, and thus I was able to afford living on earth.

Anyway, that market decided to pay a heap less, effectively pushing me out of the ‘game’. It is simply not worth the time or money to make free games, especially with sponsored ads plastered all over it!"

After my two projects which will be free. I will move on into a more mature audience in the future.

Into the Darkness is on a slight delay as I am working on a more serious project. Marking my first step into the more mature audience.

  • Not untrue, although of limited relevancy because very few people using RPG Makers create free games to make a money, let alone profit. Can you imagine making minimum wage for every hour spent on your game?

The topic of commercial games however is interesting. Although there's not many going around here these days :3

  • Who would of known that GDU's most active and respected members would grow so fast to make a commercial game.

Maybe Pol, Bob and I will plan to leave GDU so we can work on even more serious project.

If you think that for some reason GDU is holding you back, be my guest.

The purpose of this site is to share your games, resources, help each other learn game development, and I just don't think I've seen enough to suggest many members here can make a commercial game. I don't know why you even need to make a commercial game. There have been successful commercial games in RM but those are truly top tier, and large operations by very skillful teams. There are so many amazing games out there that are free… you'd be doing it tough to get a sale in this market with your RM game.

I'm not saying you don't have the skill, I'm saying if you do I haven't seen it yet. It takes more than amazing mapping, graphics and music to create a great game. This is literally the only thing I've seen from you

  • Never said GDU is holding me back.
Where did you get such idea? Now if that little statement just caught your attention then complain all you want. You've read Bob's comment, didn't you? Let me quote that in bigger words.
Leave GDU? Do you even know us? :P
I deeply respect GDU for it's warm community, but It looks like it's owner is just a care-free personality that can't be serious.
This is just my mentality and I'm tired of being the idiot that people see me, and if I want to be successful mother fucker then you really need to give a damn what people thinks about you. Even if they think you're a miserable dick. You can give me a warning or even better a ban for all this pointless discussion I made for saying that Pol, Bob, and I will leave GDU when you already know that it's not true.

  • *confusion ensues*

Firstly, I got all that from this statement
Maybe Pol, Bob and I will plan to leave GDU so we can work on even more serious project.
So what I said seems reasonable.

Also, I was and am being serious, but also pretty much care-free. I was genuinely trying to contribute to the discussion on commercial games.

This doesn't make sense. If you want to successful, then I (mark) need to care what people think about me?

  • Excuse my horrible grammar.
Sometimes I don't realize how bad it is..

What I tried to say was. If you want to become someone in life, then you should not put attention to people's opinons.

Never going to happen for me. Even if i become rich(unlikely) from game design ill still be here no matter what.
