Setting an event to parallel process, means that the event will continuously execute (like autostart), except it will NOT interrupt any other events, etc. So, it runs (or is "processed") in "parallel" (at the same time) as everything else. Hope this clears that up. EDIT: I am pretty sure this topic belongs in RPG Maker VX Ace Support forums. http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/forum/197-rpg-maker-vx-ace-support/ Moved.

Warrior Core Engine XP
kellessdee replied to Bigace360's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Scripts (RGSS1)
hahaha, that's okay; you are forgiven for making exclusive content for our site ;) And I guess I should take a look at RMVXAce's status ailment feature, now I'm curious. actually, for future reference, each_with_index exists in Ruby 1.8.x; in case that method may be of use to you, in any future releases. -
Warrior Core Engine XP
kellessdee replied to Bigace360's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Scripts (RGSS1)
Hey bigace, I think someone posted this on RMXPU! ahaha.....er...sorry, I couldn't resist. Looks like a nice collection of additions to RMXP. I like the RMVX? icon style status ailments, RMXP's status ailment display always felt unnatural to me. -

I was wondering when the professional would show up! [/timezone ignorance] I wonder if it's a coincidence, that the real improvements started to pop-up roughly around the time M$ IE market shares started dropping. I've also wondered why they care so much, since they're still winning the OS wars by a LONG SHOT. But, I'm not a business man, and I am sure there are some important reasons to care about this. WOO! This, is great news. Mobile compatibility is a nice touch! Though, generally speaking, I've had a pretty good experience with mobile browsing on RMXPU thus far...though I've only ever visited the forums. -
[poll]GDU: Sidebar vs Topbar
kellessdee replied to Marked's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
WHOa, this got buried and I forgot about it. As you know, I say top bar. All I ask for, if you do top bar, is add a "home" button, or at least a "scroll to top" button. Scrolling up is so much harder than scrolling down for me...and I'm not even joking. It really bugs me for some reason. Often, if I'm too far down on the page I'll just refresh or hit back or something weird to try to get back to the top. I think a persistent home/to top button would streamline this process for me -
Requesting... Skin,Back,Hair,Hat,Glasses,Feet,Legs,etc...
kellessdee replied to LegendaryGameMaker's topic in Requests
This post would probably be better suited for the Resource Request forum: http://www.rmxpunlim...ource-requests/ *Moved* I hope this isn't in regards to your earlier topic, we're just trying to help. There's nothing wrong with you :C I hope you didn't take anything the wrong way. Anyways, I think, this might help: http://moonpearl-gm....rset-maker.html Moonpearl and Jon Bon teamed up to create a Character set maker (Programmed by Moonpearl, Graphics by Jon Bon) that has a lot of these sort of things in Jon Bon's Materials Database Direct Link (this link can also be found at Moonpearls Blog, linked above): http://dl.dropbox.co...P%20Charset.rar Hope this helps. I remember there being other places to find this stuff....But I don't keep up with that sort of thing, maybe another member can better direct you -

Lol yea, I don't actually use Lynx. I do on my home/print server (if I need to browse the web from my server...which is rare), but only because I have to, it's all command line (the damn machine's too old for it to be worth trying to get a GUI desktop running on it, i think). Unfortunately, in this day and age, it's hard to get away with web browsing without a javascript enabled web browser I only point out lynx, because I remember my reaction when my linux teacher introduced it to me...I was like "WHOA, NO WAY, THEY STILL HAVE THESE?" had fun for a few minutes, then lost interest. haha, it's useful if you like to mess with linux, and manage to break X-Server. Then you can still browse the web to figure out how to fix your mistake haha......xD EDIT: Also, yikes, DOS flashbacks!! lol -
<3 You're in. You shall be treated GREATLY :) *ahem* That was an awesome intro, so I will say WELCOME TO RMXPU! I hope you stay long, and enjoy your stay. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. We have a lot of friendly/helpful members, and I feel if you stick around you might be able to learn a lot! We....er... The site admin Marked (who is awesome by the way), is working on upgrading the website into a full blown Game development site, and you might want to stick around for that (don't worry, there will always be a place for the RPG Maker Series here) I'd also like to point out that Chrono Trigger is THE BEST GAME EVER...in my opinion...So just by referencing it, and being inspired by such a great game puts you in my good books. Yes, I am very biased. I hope to see you around, and hope you enjoy your time here. We strive to be a very helpful and friendly community, so I don't think you'll have to worry about anyone treating you less than kindly :D

Nowadays, browser performance is hardly different enough to switch from your preference. Plus, often it comes down to the website itself. Web development is EXTREMELY difficult to appease all browsers, and generally require a lot of hacking to get it a website to perform the same across all browsers. I'd say pick a browser that does what YOU want your browser to do. In this case, this website is optimal on firefox if I recall correctly (which would be the Gecko rendering engine; there's another thing to watch out for, 90% of the time what matters is the rendering engine, and the browser itself is just your fun features) Personally, I use Comodo Dragon (which is just a modified Google Chrome minus all that data collecting, and slightly better Security features--heavier warnings on sketchy websites, etc.) But I have *most* mainstream browsers. If we're gonna start a religious war though, REAL MENPEOPLE(I'm not sexist I swear) USE LYNX http://lynx.browser.org/ Who needs client side scripting and CSS? Command-Line browsing ftw. EDIT: Oh yea, for an objective comparison, I think Gecko (firefox, et al.) supports the MOST HTML5/CSS3, then WebKit (Chrome, Safari, et al.), then Trident (Internet Explorer) I think...the numbers may have changed. Web technologies evolve TOO FAST. EDIT2: I only included mainstream rendering engines, since I don't know much about the other ones... -

Okay I'm not going to post that IE sucks, because that is my opinion. I'll be more objective: What version of IE are you using? What is "acting up" specifically? From what I can tell (with IE v9.0.8112.16421, update 9.0.6) the site works pretty *well.* (As *well* as IE works, In my opinion) Nothing seems broken, but I don't use IE regularly, so I have no idea what functions I should try. The difficulty with IE, is that Trident (IE's rendering engine) is behind the current technologies. It's catching up, but IE is generally regarded as the *least* compatible...this is starting to become less true than it was with the older versions (I'm looking at you IE6/7) So, if you could, please post which IE version and what exactly is "broken." *ahem* now I'm gonna hit post before my comment degrades into IE bashing :( -
Trouble Posting Scripts...
kellessdee replied to Heretic86's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
I'm not sure what you mean.... this doesn't appear to be happening on my end. I'm using Dragon Browser (Fork of Chrome, of the Webkit family). It might have to do with the way the rich text editor behaves in various browsers. I believe, though (as I mention above) that what you describe is an unfortunate side-effect of these fancy rich text editors (urls, bbcode, etc being parsed directly IN the editor, i.e. it's a feature of the forum software). Try this: 1. In the top left corner of the reply box, there is a "light-switch" icon, this toggles between formatted/non-formatted modes. 2. When you paste text into the editor, right-click and select "Paste as Plain Text." This option usually (I find) forces the editor to ignore attempting to parse the text as anything other than...well...plain text. Thanks for the report though, I'm not sure whether this is something Mark has control over (short of, switching forum software...I dunno if IPB is editable/can be modified...we'll wait for his reply) I think, in the meantime, one of these options *should* help you out. Also, out of curiosity, what browser are you using? I have similar issues to you, but never with @/. for e-mail addresses. Hope this helps, until a fix can be procured. *runs off and tries other browsers* EDIT: I managed to recreate this in Internet Explorer only, and only in some cases: actors@actor_foo.something_else # Triggers "E-mail" $game_party.actors[@actor_foo].something_else # Does not trigger "E-mail" This *could* be more of a Internet Explorer "thing" in the way it renders RTF web controls. *however*, I could be horribly incorrect, and this is just an assumption. Tried: Comodo Dragon v19.1 Google Chrome v19.0.1084.52 m Firefox v11.0 Internet Explorer v9.0.8112.16421 Turning off the "light-switch" (Rich Text mode) or Pasting as Plain Text should be a good workaround. It would be nice to see the editor stop parsing everything in the editor, if it's feasible. -
Bob is right, if you have a specific question to ask a specific member of the forums, it would be better that you use the Personal Message feature of the website and ask them directly. At the top of the page there is a button for "Members List" you can use this to search for the member and PM them from their profile. Or you can find any post made by them to find their profile, to PM them. If you are just trying for a script request, you should post in the scripts request forum: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/forum/15-scripts-request/ I will move this topic to that forum for now, but if you are trying to directly contact ForeverZer0, please PM ForeverZero and let me know so I can close this topic. If you are just trying to request a script, please post more details as to what you require. Thank you.
-
Ah perfect! I had a feeling it would be implemented that way. I think, you should be able to just change the first part of my script from: class Scene_Item to class Scene_Menu and it should work correctly. * Make sure though, that my script is BELOW your menu script * Let me know if that works or not. EDIT: Or, do you need it to target the character at all (like in the status window) as some kind of confirmation?
-
LOL this made my day. EDIT: That might explain where my long-term memory is; Every time something leaves my short-term memory, it seems impossible to retrieve. *ahem* unfortunately my scripting bowels are empty right now. I think I'd have to see how you've incorporated the inventory into the Main menu, if possible. I'm sure it should be simple enough to integrate; but it would be a complete shot in the dark without having some structure to go on.

You do realize I haven't grown up yet; and this statement is a bear trap for me...... EGH ah uuuuuggghh *rolls 20d; hits 20, resists!* [bACK ON TOPIC] I voted. And what you say is ABSOLUTELY correct. People easily get caught up in "oh, I'll never be good enough" "too much competition", etc. But truly miss the point--What's the point of dedicating your life to something you hate? I'd rather be broke and following my dreams/doing what I love, than anything else. One of my college professor's told me something once. I was going off about how I loved what I was doing in college, that class and even homework was fun blah blah; and what he told me was: "It doesn't matter what you do, If you have a passion for it, you WILL succeed." A good comparison, as I had mentioned how I doubt I could every build a chair (or something) and he said it was because I had no interest in it. He said if I cared about building a chair, and had interest in it--I'd probably build a better chair than anyone who was doing it for money. A little rant of mine, but what he said was REALLY inspirational, and I think spoke WORLD's of truth; and the same would apply to you or your sister. If you have a passion for something--go for it. You will have a one up on ANYONE, who doesn't share that same passion. Also, as a comment on the video itself--it sounds like your sister's really sincere, and does indeed have a passion for the film industry. I hope she wins!

I really don't mean to get off-topic, or clutter this topic; but I'm PRETTY sure you're allowed to distribute RTP alongside your game release; VX and VX Ace give you the option directly IN the editor: I'm pretty sure, if you weren't allowed to do this enterbrain wouldn't GIVE you to option through the software... But I'm no legal expert, nor do I read licenses...I know, I'm bad/lazy D: ... Also, if you don't use RTP at all you don't have to include it, nor is it needed. As long as the RGSSxxx.dll file is in the game folder (RPG Maker VX Ace includes it in ALL game folders by default, VX/XP just require you to find it in your computer and put it in your game folder) *ahem* sorry RKO. I felt I needed to say that--if anyone wants me to, I can make up a tutorial for how to distribute RMxx games, without requiring the user to have RTP installed....I'm just kinda worried about Jon's comment on the license (I'm not a law expert) As a tip, the best way to release RM games is two versions: 1 with RTP included (much larger download) and 1 without RTP (for those with RTP already installed)

Technically, the configuration isn't required to be edited in this case. Anyway, the error you are getting is from some kind of "hanging" text in the script, possibly from a missing comment identifier ("#") somewhere. Could you open your script editor in RPG Maker VX Ace, and post EXACTLY what line # 4 is? (the line numbers are in the left margin, just copy the entire line and paste it here) My *assumption* (which could be wrong) is that you accidentally missed something when copying+pasting the script into the editor.
-
Yes precisely. The configuration section, is the parts you can edit to make adjustments to the way the script behaves. In this case, those are the defaults settings when you ask the script to setup the fog. Now out of curiosity, what error message did you get? Did it tell you, that you were missing graphics files?
-
Yup, this just in: I'm insane. (For future reference, when you move a topic; you *should* select the option to keep a copy in the place it was posted--it can be confusing for members when their topic suddenly vanishes, without a trace) [Now I am getting way off topic] @forcebreaker: Because I feel bad for propelling this topic into the abyss, I googled the Script you speak of; and my guess is that the issue you are having is directly related to your configuration of this script. Did you modify the configuration? (if so, please post YOUR configuration) Did you place any required graphics in the correct game folders? If you post your error message, I bet we'll have this resolved in a jiffy
-
Sometimes I'm quick ;) Mostly, I'm slow :( BigAce, I agree with the lack of details/information; but I do believe this is the correct place for this topic... We are in RPG Maker VX Ace support aren't we? [this will be a test of my sanity]
-
I think forcebreaker's just curious on how to add custom scripts to VX Ace (the learning how to script is probably just a side note) Oh forcebreaker beat me to it Typically, you'll want to first, get the script. Generally it will be a matter of copying and pasting the script. Once you have the script, open up the script editor (Tools > Script Editor, or F11 for the shortcut) Then, generally speaking, you'll add it to the "Materials" section. For us to better help you though, you'll want to 1. Give us the link to the script or at least post it here with instructions. 2. Perhaps write down exactly what the error said, so we can pinpoint the issue. (Or, a screen shot of the error message would work fine as well, if that is easier for you) Just for future reference, there's not much help one can give without these specific items. For example (in my case), I don't follow RPG Maker Scripts at all....in fact, I rarely follow anything RPG Maker outside these forums--The name of a script means nothing to me Secondly, there's potentially a large number of possibilities of WHY the script isn't working. With the script, instructions, and error details; it will be much easier to pinpoint what went wrong, or at least move closer to a solution.

@eco: I don't think that's a weird concept; I think it's nice to be well rounded. I'm not much of a sports guy myself. Once upon a time, I played baseball, basketball, soccer and took up martial arts (Tae Kwon Do, to be specific), but I never retained interest. I don't dislike outdoor/physical activities, I just really have little interest in organized/team sports. If anything, I guess I'd be a nature guy (if you took away my computer and other nerdy, or perhaps to be nice to myself (as Jon put it) geeky stuff lol); I love hiking, camping, etc. I've done small amounts of rock climbing (all indoor) and that was quite enjoyable. Mostly though, [what bob said]. Some one had to do it. ;) It's neat to see what others here like to do outside of this place!

A top bar for GDU? (sorta like facebook)
kellessdee replied to Marked's topic in Programming & Web Development
I'm going to have to disagree with the transparency. I think that, although one loses some screen real-estate, at most it would be perhaps a line of text; and I don't think transparency would solve this. To actually read that line, one would mostly likely have to scroll up regardless, and then in that case I think transparency would detract from the actual UI. The lost screen space however, could be detrimental to mobile phone users; where in that case the top bar probably should not exist at all. The idea of making the top bar fade out (or perhaps "slide" even?) while scrolling, as this might be when someone would like to more of the site at one time. It would have to be animated in some way, not just to look pretty, but as a user I get uncomfortable when parts of my UI play a vanishing act, but I can sleep at night if I know that my UI is waiting for me, just beyond those imaginary bounds of my browser window. Maybe that's just me though :P I think, once the top bar is more than just a persistent search bar/home button, the benefits will outweigh the costs. Being able to manage account aspects, return to the home page, search etc. on any point of the screen, is essential -- especially in the case of forums, where the total height of the page is much greater than the a lot websites. The top bar could also have a "jump to top" button. This would be useful too, so you can quickly access other locations on the website, without having to click home on the top bar (agh, I do this on facebook when I scroll too far down. It's often easier/faster than scrolling back up xD), or scroll all the way back up. A quick click, to get you to the top from anywhere on the page. This also avoids making the user look for the last "jump to top" link they saw. [off-topic][sorry Mark] @enigma: Holy crap, I haven't seen you around here in WHILE. How have you been?
