Crimson Well hopefully it can help you at least a bit :) I think i will make a picture based tutorial of all the steps you can take to create a better character, probably not very soon though, have a bit less time on the pc now :/ Character side frame added to top folks, also added a bit more shade to one side of the helmet for frontal ;) Notice how the armor (chest) goes a pixel over the body line, i think this is the way to go when creating armor. RATED-RKOFRANKLIN Glad you like the character too ^^
  5. I actually need to do a bit more work for that, but nothing huge at all, it will probably be somewhat unnoticeable in the end. Lighting is still the same but i like to keep it very subtle, notice how certain parts of the character are shaded differently, the chest armor, the shading on both pant legs, the boots, the helmet (bottom sides especially, green and yellow areas). We're dealing with a small character template so there's no need to focus so much on that sort of thing, as i said in the other forum i will try making a small tut or sprite tips sheet that may help some. Now that i remember i actually wrote down some tips on a thread long while back let me see if i can locate it. --- Here's the somewhat original post, i took off a line here and there, not fantastically helpful but i will work on something new soon. ********************************* ***Some simple tips for anyone looking to sprite on this template or any other.*** .Draw shadow under hair when and if you sprite any (look at example character). .Don't be afraid to draw outside the outline, remember this when working on shirts and pants (look at example character). .Use the darkest skin color of the template for your darkest shade if you want more contrast in certain spots. .Keep your light source in mind, top left, top or top right (i'll be using top left). .Don't use pure black for the most part, because it will stand out too much against other colors and the tilesets. .Use more contrast between your main colors, by this i mean that you should be able to see the outline(s) for the hair clrearly against the base color of the hair, same for any other piece like clothing etc.. .Don't go too bright or use too much saturation, it will be up to you to make the call or open a thread asking for advice, all i can say is that it will look bad if you go overboard with this. .Compare the template frontal and side when you begin working on side frames, notice how the arms, legs, body lines line up compared to the frontal. .For the most part keep your lights, shadows and line work solid so we can tell what's really going on with the outfit you create. .Follow the template shadows for certain pieces of clothing you make. Try to keep it clean, take it slowly and keep it simple at the begining when working on the outline, later on you can add more strands of hair (same for clothing) if you feel you need them. thinking of the head/body as 3D will help you make better characters, save your work once in a while in case you can't undo enough times (thinking of MSpaint here) When working with clothing that is not baggy stay pretty close to the outer lines of the template, this does not mean follow the lines exactly though, you should go over a few pixels here and there to make the clothing look more natural, try to stay away from the "painted on" mistake which i see many people do when starting out. **********************************************************

  7. I've begun working on the muscle man body type a while ago, so i added another body type which i may work on afterward (sooner or later).

Simple shadows added for all body types, use mspaint and set background to transparent before pasting. --------------- A remake of the Gold Soldier is up, i know i'm working at a very slow pace on these characters but i want the best look for them ^^ ---- Colors for (new) Gold Soldier added to top.

Alrighty the first three are up then, the barrel should be somewhat easy since i just take my own, add feet and edit ^^ RATED-RKOFRANKLIN- Cool, hope you know this is for the Tyke template (will add a VX ver soon) and not the VX template though. -- The frontal for Edgar is up (needs a bit more work though), i'm still bothered by the color of the pants, i need to work on that some more. If you don't like something let me know Crimson, the smirk is there until complete. By the way i will be using this as an example for the template, but i will only post the complete character here.

The main changes were made to the original male and female heads as you guys will see, the rest of the characters remain the same for the most part, i did make edits to small areas for all though. The child eyes are longer, it was a bad idea to take off those pixels before, the big ears (frontal/back problem) are also gone. The other changes may be unnoticeable, like the small side frame pixel changes to the jaws for example. I've also created an extra color for the scalp this time instead of using template shades, this works better for both skin shades. Anyway the templates look better as a whole now, the obese body types look better because of the change too. I will also be working on a new shadow add on for the temps as well as a better temp head sheet for copy paste. Complete characters will be edited also.

  15. I believe so, never saw many Snes characters with huge heads. The heads are now more proportionate to the body than before. Lighting is the same XD, at the beginning don't worry too much about it i say, line work is more important. That gives me an idea though, i'll let you guys know if i come up with something that can help.
  16. Welcome to the M_s Tyke request thread!!!..... ^_^ I'm looking to work on more characters (only using this template of coarse) and i want to take a few requests from you good folks. A few rules. .Give me a picture(s) or a good description of what your character wears, and what colors you want where. .No poses, this is only character work so no template stuff. .You can change your request if work on it has not begun. **Only three requests taken at a time (first come first served :D), anything else after that will be ignored. But!..If you're too late you can submit the request again after the 3 characters are complete.** Well that's all, i only want to do this in RMXPU for the moment, and hopefully this works out well.   19. CrimsonInferno- All complete, just have to test something out before i upload 'em. The biggest change were to the heads of the male and female, i mainly shrunk the head down for them, and obese male and female only got a little edit to the jaw area but pretty much remain the same, except for some small details no one may notice. This change really makes the templates look better as a whole, because the obese body types look much more different from the smaller sized male and female now, i also edited the head of the kid a bit, but not much changed otherwise (got rid of big ears and fixed the eyes ^^). I will upload later on peeps.
  20. I'm going to be making a few changes to the template which you folks might like better. This is just a -heads- up because i will start replacing the older look soon, save those in case you don't like this new one (doubt you will though ^^). Yeah i'm back at it again, but doing a bit of temp work for now :D I will also be editing the complete characters to fit this slight edit. e- And the heads with mouth and noses are a little useless so i will be getting rid of those too, it's just some easy pixel additions that anyone can do, so no need for copy paste you know?

  22. Crimson- Yup i will try my hand at a pine tree too, as well as bushes and another type of tree (smaller one, and maybe an even bigger one later on) besides the one you guys see now. Kiriashi Ah, thought you were talking about the hollow log on the ground before. The difference between the rmxp rtp and mine is that the rmxp tile is more dithered and probably uses more colors/shades, i'm always looking to improve my work so i will work a bit more on the tile. Alright guys, new picture added to top, cliff still being worked on as you can see. Still at base colors because as i said i've been planing this one out, still much more to do before i get to shading. Mapping is crappy i know ^^ e- I know the side (diagonal) of the cliff still needs work, too straight looking now.
  23. I hate both rtp packages for VX and XP (more VX), i know it's hard to create your own tiles and all, but man that's all i see whenever i take a look at a project. At least take the time to edit the hell out of them, or start ripping some Suikoden sprite work or something.. Kage Kazumi- I created an inner tileset fir the tent a long time ago, should still be rolling around somewhere too. It's one of my older works but still looks good.
  24. -Tileset update- Cliff still at base colors as i'm still planing it all out, you can now create a smaller sized wall as well. Get ready for many..many cliff pieces guys.
