So most of you that know me may not give two shits about what I've been doing and you probably shouldn't because I'm not doing anything useful with my life in the game making industry Xd. Anyways, before I turned into a lazy shit (or was it because I did not possess the knowledge?) I was making a survival RPG game. I managed to get the map done, I also got the animations for getting wood and mining ore which took a while to make but it was done. So I was at the point where the player could gather wood and ore with an axe and pickaxe but the problem was making a house. This is where I turned lazy and could NOT figure out how to do this other than moving to Unity or some other engine to make the game but the problem is I don't know any coding language or what have you so this is a useless task to pursue as of right now since I was planning on getting someone to teach me it in a course at schoolio or something.
So that's a summary of what was going on in my life since i haven't posted on GDU in a long ass time, oh and I also got a job at Mcdonalds.
For anyone wondering what happened to Onis Era, I decided it was a pretty fucking stupid game and its a fan game so its not going any wheres but at least ill be able to show it in a portfolio or maybe make it a future project? I still don't know what to do with it yet so that's the news for that.

Call me crazy, but what if like.... peps set their own deadlines and then do like a week jam and have to submit when they say they will. If other people can't do that week, then they can choose a time in the near future that suits them, then judging occurs once all submissions are gathered.

I'm honestly not sure which is weirder. Me!Me!Me! has a lot of really weird stuff in a much shorter amount of time. Evangelion has a few episodes and a movie of messed up stuff, but there's an actual plot.
Not all 26 episodes are super weird, but it gets really weird FAST around episode... 18 I think it was. Ep. 26 feels like someone was pulling a joke on you and it's not really the ending...and then there's the movie, which clears things up, but still leaves you thinking:

David Johnston reacted to Ardaceus in Character Faces Needed
Hi, my name is Ardaceus (aka Ardi for short), I am working on a game called Wonder's War on the Rpg VX Ace game maker platform. I've been able to find most resources for my game by either purchasing or making them, and I've been whizzing by in the production area for it because of it. But I'll be honest, drawing something that is not cartoonish is outside of my comfort zone when it comes to drawing things. I've asked my friends who are amazing artists to help me with making the character's faces, even if it was just on paper, I do have experience recoloring things. But after the first drawing I've gotten, they've been not a lot of help when it comes to it. So I'm relying on myself and kind people on the internet for help with my game.

So I'm here to ask of this if anyone is willing to be so kind, if they would draw faces for exactly 28 characters in my game. There are far more characters in my game, but far more, and not as important as these 28. The thing that has to resemble about all of them is that they all need to be in the same art style, I must like them all, and I would prefer it if they had a white background. If I were to receive the faces from you, you must accept that they will be used in a commercial game for profit. I will give out a reward to the one who completes this task, which will be special credits in the game files and on the site page for it, a free copy of the completed game once it is completed, and a 50$ gift card of your choosing (Canadian only). If you are interested in this, comment below, and send down a sample of your style of art drawing, and if I like it, I'll message you. Ardi out.

I felt the same when I saw it. Man, do I look smug. Seeing Miles Edgeworth standing in 1st place and looking so self-congratulatory just makes my day.

But the reason I came back to this account even months after my partner left is because I love this community. It's not the same when I visited more than a year ago as a guest, but it's fun to just be here with the people that continue to be active in the community. My partner left a long time ago after becoming more efficient in RMXP, so I'm able to use this account now. After making my first post on this account in November just to for help in our game, I began to enjoy being on this site more and more.

So it's only thanks to the awesome community on here, and people like Marked who continue to keep it going after all this time, that I became a member and wanted to contribute more. Kudos to you all, and congrats to David and blackmage, too.

No, don't. The pepper is perfect, it looks like a mask. We can create a new superhero mascot and name him "Pepper Man" or something.

The Hero's Journey guide is pretty wide open for interpretation. You could do a lot with it, which is why it shouldn't be one of the only rules.

I'd prefer a limit on maps or something, since all the games have to be around the same size/time and all. With the Monomyth, you could create a game practically the size of Mad Father and still have it fulfill all the requirements. Hero goes on a journey to save/do one person/thing, ends up running into tons of obstacles, getting help from others, and building their character, etc.

So I'm all for any ideas in relation to the story, but it should fit the time/size limits. Although what I'd prefer is no or less limits on the story and creativity, since the "one-minded quest" idea can take a long time to flesh out and build decently. The Hero's Journey guide also has a lot of extra obstacles that I'd rather not create for the player in what I assume will be a short game.

I think that earlier in the topic, they mentioned that RPG Maker XP or VX/VX Ace will be what we're using.

But yeah, some official rules would be good.

As I'm not too good with creating resources, I'm hoping that at least the RTP is available for use.

About things other than RTP, perhaps people start listing what they want to use and make a collective list of it.

Just curious, are we must use specified engine?

Can someone with please start making an official rules or something similar so we can start discuss it properly without the need to grasp everything in darkness?

Point taken, Mage. I'll throw some caution to the wind and stick with free music this time.

I'm not sure how many people here can sprite, but I know for sure that I'm useless at it. I either take a very long time to make something decent or take a very short time to come out with something... barely recognisable. Haha, that's probably just me, though. It would be a learning experience for sure, though. Time constraints + need for creating my own sprites would churn out some interesting results.

Also, about scripts. How are those going to be implemented? Eg, the ones that are available for public use. That fits with what you said about the resources, but I just wanted to put it out there since I'm heavily dependent on others' scripts. (I really need to learn how to script... maybe I can find some time to start in the next couple of weeks.)

Since I don't know how well everyone else is off making their own resources, I'll wait to hear more on this.

But my winter holidays have finally started, so I'm free to make a small game anytime.

Good points there, Mage. I would like to work with one person outside of this forum, however I'll wait on the rules before I see if I can work the game jam myself or not. Depending on the number of maps and whether or not it's a small enough project for me to do entirely on my own, I'm curious to see if we can bring others into this.

And I'm all for the starting time being specified, since if I post my own time I'll most likely never find time on my own to start. D:

Should we discuss about the rules and other related stuff in the meantime?

    Let me throw some example.

    - Party members
Game Jam is done with team (It's called Jam for a reason). However, we have very small numbers of active members on the site, so making some team from the site is quite dificult. The alternatives is taking someone outside the forum and form a team or soloing everything.

    - Content Restriction
All free resources available, or RTP only, or pre-made content are not allowed with RTP as exception or any other restriction.

    - Specific Time as Standard
We use specific time limit as standard so everyone can start on the same time, or everyone is posting when they will start due the time difference or other real life restriction, assumed that the starting time is still tolerable to some extent.

    etc, etc.

Since it is for fun, I think judge is not necessary. We can just throw some vote or something similar in case we need one :p

Awesome! Is this an official date? I have a speech&debate tournament that day, but if I can I'll definitely bring my laptop along and try to work on a game as I go.

If this is official, it might be nice to post to the front page along with all the rules, the date, etc. There might be more people interested in something like this. Always good to get news out there, after all.

I may not have any programming skills to offer, but let me tell you it's gonna take you a while to get a hang of the program and all the functions. After using RMXP for two years on-and-off (started at age 13), I can event and such. But still can't code. (Ruby's one of the goals on my long list. :P)

Just learn how to use the engine well. If you can, learn Ruby. I hear it gets you a long way and gives you plenty more room to work rather than just trying to use what's out there. But then again, there's a lot out there on forums like Chaos Project and Save Point, with detailed instructions and members that are more than willing to help out.

But my advice is just to explore, learn how to event thoroughly, and get yourself familiar with the resources out there. If there's anything to do with eventing, I could possibly help.

If you want a actual programmer I can do that as long as you already have a story planned out, characters, plot, and elements. Otherwise I don't want to be wasting my time volunteering for a game that may never get any where.

Hey, It's great that you are reaching out to help, this is exactly what the community was designed for.

So, I can help you with the Day/Night cycle as I have used it before. Send me a message on steam when you can. (you should be in the community right? you will see my name in there, most likely offline XD).
Also with completely changing the battle scenario, do you mean changing it to something like Blizz ABS. which is a real time battling system rather than turn based one.

Wish you luck in your endeavors in game design, we are here to help.

Wise words Arky. I think we have to rule out Unity based on the rules/guidelines for the games. Unless Pol can make several playable maps in 72 hours.

I think for the engine that XP through to Ace will not cause any problems because they're quite similar and one shouldn't provide any major advantage over the other in 72 hours. I certainly do not want restrict it to XP only. Ace is more popular than XP these days. Also, any of the engines can be easily downloaded. Ace is rather overpriced.

For release its going to be 50% off(so $2.50) till it comes out of beta. Beta is when its going to go commercial(still a ways away).  Once it goes into beta we will start work on management mode and tons of fun stuff. when we feel the game is a complete game it will go for $5. Theres still LOTS of stuff to come from this game.

To start mining gems you need to get the gems upgrade "Shiny Rocks For ALL!". Once you got that you will randomly(1/1000, 1/750 with 2nd upgrade) gain gems from manual mining and from workers(manual mining = more common). to unlock more stuff like different types of ore and bars you need to levelup your skills by doing more mining, smithing and crafting.
