  8. The mapping of VX was supposed to be easy to use as mentioned by enterbrain. They wanted people to spend more time on scripting and less time on mapping. I can whip up maps in VX REALLY freaking fast, but they don't look that great, and I'm not a sucky mapper. They changed the events to be like what, 4% better? I like the quick events and all and having the events organized, but why didn't they just do that with XP? I mean, we DO have common events you know. The character size drives me crazy though. I can't remember who, but someone had the awesome idea to use VX sprites as nome characters.. xD I have to vote...... XP, because the system is just better, and the graphics don't make me cry. Also, because the battle system is better than VX. There isn't even any battlers in VX, and they were too lazy to make battle backs so they just did that photoshop techNEEK crap. :/
  9. What monkey and I are trying to say is that storyline is important, but it can't make a game by itself. It has to have maps that aren't a half-*** job. I do agree that the storyline is important, I think the most important thing in a game is the characters, but if the maps suck, then I wouldn't be able to pay attention to the story.

  11. No problem! First of all I gotta say, I love your Windows XP huge button GUI mod. xD This isn't your fault, but the water is way too square, try using the autotile I put up on the first post. Okay, a lot of people make this mistake, I know I used to a lot! xD. See how in your upper left tree's bottom right corner, there is shadow? Well in that bottom right corner of that tree (not of the map), you cut off the tree shadow with the flower autotile. This happens in some other areas as well. Take a look a this picture: clickme the red cirlces are the areas I'm talking about. Also in your map, the blue circle is where I cannot tell if you made this error, but it looks like you used layer three to fix it, and in the green circle you did not make this error. (following me so far? This is supposed to help you with mapping, so don't take anything personaly, xD) In the Royal Purple circle, you can see that the waterfall auto tile is being a jerk to you! This is one of the most confusing autotiles. You can see that there is an ugly line going across your water, this is because, as stupid as it sounds, the autotile is one square away from the edge of the map. This messes it up. (You'll see why this is in my tutorial) The brown squares are where you are putting to much stuff in, though that is just the general idea. Make sure you use different tiles in different areas, not clumped together. Picture time! Look at this: Bad Map now look at this one Better Map Can you see the difference? One more thing, MAP LOGIC. The most broken rule of mapping is map logic. Water in a hot desert, perfect houses in a poor area, turtle doves in a swamp. These are examples of breaking mapping logic. YOU break map logic by having a bridge, and a path that goes around that bridge. Choose one or another. Here is a better version of your map in which I used just the path method. I tried not to go overboard, but yeah... *30 minutes later* Your map in the Kiriashi Dimension So there you go. Was I helpful? Did I provide enough information? I sure did try too. ~Kiriashi~ (also, I'm sorry I don't have the first tutorial up, it has a lot of pics in it! I wanted to have a mapping tutorial done before you guys made grassland maps, so you could do what I mentioned in the first tutorial.)

  14. Changing the controls permanently, as in not with F1, would require, as far as I know (Way too many commas xD), you to change the input in the script editor. You shouldn't want to change the controls though.. Go into your script editor and look for the controls. Leon, am I right on this??

  21. My brother can make some beautiful battlers for you, if only I can just get him to help. ;(. I'm going to bug him about and see if I can get him to do at least one battler for you. There are a lot of good spriters nowadays. Jesse will help you here. I'm still trying to learn how so sprite, so sorry, mine suck to much right now. EDIT: yes he is a sprite artist.

Leon: "Those idiots who use the RTP and make it look like shit give the RTP a bad name. the RTP is decent graphics. Learn to use em." This is so true man! That must be what they do. They see it as bad 'cause they just plain suck at it, and tell everyone else it is just the general look of the run time package. It really is stupid. If you guys know Breadfan, an amazing mapper, even he was open for hire. There a lot of good mappers for people to hire if they can't do it themselves. :/

  25. Alright, there may be some peolple that say my tutorials are not helpful, or my maps are not good enough for me to be making tutorials. You should just know, that I'm teaching people how to map like me. If you don't want to map like me, don't make rude comments about it, just go somewhere else. AwesomeRule: Try to have fun when mapping and do your best. Never call yourself a noob or think you can't improve, for I assure you, I WILL TEACH ALL!
