  1. Ahhh okay. Sorry, I'm very oblivious and simple minded by nature, so it takes extra prodding for my brain to comprehend. Now it makes sense. I'll just have to make sure to ignore it like 90% of the time in terms of the number then. I've always just used the sidebar to see changes to what's going on anyway as I think about it...
  2. I looked at the list...looked at what was on it and such, then left the list and the page. refreshed it...and it's still showing me '3 recent' things when I already looked at them.
  3. This thread is the [official?] game thread for Irina Academy. To see it's game page, please refer to this link. This thread may have slightly more detail in storyline and such than the original gamepage. STORYLINE: Erin Lyle is a rather average boy, besides being sickly and weak. After being invited to the most renowned school in his country for 'gifted students', the young man soon finds out that 'gift' doesn't just imply talent. In fact, Erin was brought to the school supposedly just for his open-minded nature: in hopes of using it to aid the five girls in school with elemental abilities that confuse and irk them and those around them. As Erin starts his life as a student at the famous academy, he'll have to learn to get along with some kookie classmates and the very unique girls he's been asked to aid- and eventually, he's going to have to find out the true reason his health falters so badly: he's got a special power too! Learn the lore of the land and find out how it relates to these unusual students- and help them uncover the real reason 'God' gave them these gifts...and if there are even more out there! Note: Each character's backstory has some darkness in it, and the story is rated 16+ due to mentions of certain issues. CHARACTERS: Erin Lyle - The main protagonist. He starts out weak with no knowledge of his true strength, but eventually you'll find out just how strong he can be. Jorda Bailey - A stoic young girl who is like a walking tree: she lives off sunlight and water. She is a lover of schedules and a very simple girl. She is self-sufficient, and while she helps you at the start, it'll take a while before you get to meet up with her again... Ilda Nora - A feisty girl who runs a local gang and only really goes to school to play sports. She lives in a local boarding house rather than in a dorm on campus, and happens to help make weapons sometimes. Though she's a gangster, she's got a strong sense of justice- and she'll definitely help you out, even if she'll curse you out as well. She can withstand fire, but should never be asked out during rain... Lyn Rowell - A girl with a static electricity field that shocks anyone she touches, Lyn has no attention span and an even worse memory! Always chipper, she likes to have fun and tends to forget what she was having fun with quickly. Her father happens to make armor/clothes, and her kid siblings- which she has five of- will often mention that they hope you'll take care of her, and not hurt her...Has she been hurt before? Vanna Seliana - A girl who both lives by and loves the ocean. She's the eldest of all the girls you have to deal with, and also the most serene. Able to breathe underwater, Vanna is usually found underwater rather than on land. She moves faster that way, it seems. Luft Williams - This girl is a literal airhead- and it's because she's always blowing on a breeze and getting lost that it'll take time before you meet her, considering you're /in the same class/. Leanne Lyle - Your twin sister. For the beginning, she'll just send you letters. But someday, this sadistic girl is going to end up on campus too..!? Iris Hemsworth - The Headmaster of the school, who knows a lot more than she seems to. Why is she so intent on bringing all the elementals together...? Corona Hemsworth - The Student Council President is the granddaughter of the principal. She's on your side rather than her grandmother's, don't worry- though it'll take time to get her to work out well on the team, since she's very, very strict... Ian Andrews - Corona's right-hand man with a tendency to have information he shouldn't. Ian will be a great resource for you in the future- albeit he's also just comic relief when you try to figure out why he has the school's student registry, along with detailed profiles on the staff... Kevin Walbern - Your friendly, brother-like roommate in the dorm. He'll be easily persuaded to aid you when you need it, even if it means using his martial arts and possibly other fighting techniques in battle! PLANNED FEATURES -A cast of unique characters with deep backstories and interesting side events. -At least up to 9 characters you can include in your party with the protagonist, Erin [for now, he's required. Sorry.] -A day/night system that will decide certain events. -Learn skills many ways: Through special quests, leveling up or skill books bought at the store! -Want to feel like you're in school and earn rewards at the same time? "Homework" quests will provide a variety of random requirements from getting specific items, fighting specific monsters, or talking to specific people. Sometimes classmates will give you assignments with games, too! each 'homework' turned in gets a reward depending on who it's from! -Trying to make combo-moves between party members. CREDITS: So far, using scripts from Galv and Yanfly, along with likely a few more from Hime and Tsukihime. A new icon-set has been set in place, made by Avery. Getting some freebie art most likely from a fellow named D'Art FUN FACTS AND SCREENSHOTS: At the start, you'll have to make due with school supply-based weaponry. Also note, most/all skills are going to be in Latin- along with the element names and commands. Don't worry though, they'll be easy to understand, most likely. Since everything will change soon, the screenshots will change quickly. For now, please look at the game page for what's currently there- which will change when I update it later on.
  4. Changing iconsets is tedious and makes me annoyed after a while. So, time to take out my aggression on some random characters in OJ. With random new insanity included!

  5. Um yeah i'm not big on the sell feature most of the time either [i'll probably make like one or two shops that actually buy stuff, not sure yet]. And most of it /is/ logic, like with armor vs weapons and stuff. The main issue i'm having is with the whole "what do you sell in a general shop versus what you sell at the specialty stores?". I'm debating making an item called a pencil and call it a dagger. So that you can buy pencils that make cruddy daggers but are logical. Or something. Why did I make a school store. It was literally the first shop I made before I remembered 'schools have a nurse's office usually so that's probably where you'd buy medicine'. Now it's more like a random space being used. I wonder if I should make a new thread getting help with item ideas that are based on school supplies. o.o;
  6. I honestly just can't figure out /what/ to put in the school shop anymore. Maybe the really simple health/mana potions that do little but are useful in an emergency? I'm starting to think the bomb and poison gas concept is better left at the weapon shop. Though it could totally make a random event if someone is talking to an NPC and they point out it's weird to have bombs there. xD
  7. I just finished [generally] mapping where medicine will be sold in my game, and realized something...I can't easily choose for myself which medicines should be sold there vs. what should be found only in chests and other things. Then, there's the fact I'd originally planned on some small medicine stuff being sold in an earlier section of the game [since it takes place in a school, I made an area near the entry the 'school shop'] and now I'm wondering...What WOULD fit there? Bombs and poison gas? Or are those more for medicine shops? Thus, I decided to look to my fellow developers. How do you guys tend to choose how many kinds of shops there are, what each one sells, where to overlap [if at all] and what can't be bought in a store? Is there a special method for you that works? Or do you tend to just wing it?
  8. I really like the addition, though there seems to be a bug with the new content tab: It never changes the number after I check it.
  9. For comics I use a program called ComiPo. It's all drag and drop with 3D models and stuff, so it's fairly simple. Character customization is somewhat limited at times, but you can import models from different programs to make it more diverse with certain things like hair and such. It's fairly easy to use at least. And my project is called Irina Academy. I plan to look at your project too :D Ah, okay. I got VX Ace as a gift actually, and never saw what VX itself was like. I'm just assuming they're almost identical. Maybe. xD
  10. I rather like the change to the front page- and if that screenshot of the bar is what you're changing it to for forums, I probably wouldn't complain. This thread also made me think I should make a tutorial. Sadly, I don't really know anything i could teach people...I only know random resources for dumb things like my favorite translation site. But this will definitely make ti easier to find a lot of things, I think. ...though admittedly, it's the front page I rarely look at...
  11. Welcome to the site, Sniper. Are you the one that snipes me when I say something dumb? I've been wondering who my logical sniper is..xD In all seriousness [well most seriousness I can provide] though, welcome to the site. I like your reasoning for joining- the quotes that are on the pages are pretty fun to me too. And I can't draw but make comics with a comic program- and I'm actually using what was gonna be a comic at one point as my main project idea too! :D I'm working on a school-centered fantasy type of RPG in VXAce. I don't know the real differences between VX and VXAce though...Huh.
  12. I will have to look into Audacity one day, since I don't have mac and thus no garageband. But I am going to have to make a fan club in your honor, good sir. Because i'm already addicted to listening to this stuff. Encore please.
  13. I use it all the time personally. I love the userbar, because it's super simple and easy to use. When you're a total simpleton like me, simple and easy to ues things are the best ever. I seriously adore it and would rather keep it >w<
  14. Hiya Tea. Do you prefer to be called Tea or Dottore? I'll go with whichever you prefer. I use Ace as well! I say I'm like 15% done but honestly I have no clue with percentages...I just sorta wing the numbers. You say you're currently working on your first 'serious' game. What have you worked on beforehand? I'm working on a somewhat serious modern-fantasy game right now. But I also have other ideas in my head that won't be quiet...
  15. Dear granny. Please check your blood sugar so the wolf and little red riding hood can go home. It's already 1AM.

  16. Um...I wonder if it's bad to just launch another list here. xD But I love sushi [though it's expensive and I rarely get it...and I mostly like the salmon], pizza and sweets. I tend to adore anything with cheese and chocolate but I focus more on texture than taste sometimes. Another food I adore are brown tomatoes, or 'kumatoes' I get at the food store we go to. They're great snacks. I'm weird okay? Oh and cottage cheese is awesome.
  17. Curiosity time [not that I listened yet, at my grandmother's house] but...what do you use to make the music? It's great you're sharing your progress :D Soundcloud is apparently useful.
  18. I'm thankful for the wonderful people I can call my friends and [the few that are included in] my family. Also for food and fun and randomness.
  19. Status: Seeking lives. And brains. Mostly brains.

    1. Polraudio

      Polraudio

You building an empire of smart people or can the brains be dumb people also? Either way you need lives with brains to make a country/empire. :P

      JRolik

Any brains I'm just eating them/using them as currency when I go back to Pluto.

  20. Thank you for looking at the 'Early in Development' information for Irina Academy! This is my first time making a thread in this particular type of forum [about a game] but since I did already make a Game Page, you'll find a lot of information similar here and there. And because I'm lame, I'll be just following the information from the Requirements list as my layout until I have pictures to make you think I do pretty things. But for now, sorry, it'll be bland. [Note: Edited to put everything in spoilers for easier navigation/less headaches]. 1. GAME STORYLINE AND SYNOPSIS
  21. I'm called cute a lot too [i just assume they're all biased weirdos that tell me, since it's usually really close friends who do it]. Is that bad? xD
  22. Have you ever played Dragon Quest? There are all sorts of weird creatures to fight in Sentinels of the Starry Sky. One is basically a giant pickle/cucumber with a pitchfork. Hrm...Odd humans?! Ironically my best friend in a game I play is named Odd. I should totally make him help me think of some. So far my only humanoid idea is like Bullies and Bandits. Bullies would be fun to beat up...xD I love long opinions. It just takes longer to reply to them. xD I have never played Undertale. I have no money to get it, and my friend who originally wanted to get it for me because he feels I'd adore it [irony: It's Odd again]...Can't due to region locking and being in a country with that. So I ended up looking at your spoiler instead [plus I could care less about spoilers]. I love your general monster concepts .Fighting a fire hydrant isn't much weirder than a bunch of humans with random weapons fighting a giant tank, which I have had to do in games before. And then you fight the person inside the tank, who's way stronger. THE LOGIC IS NOT STRONG THERE, OKAY? Good thing my motto is destroying logic. But I couldn't destroy that one...-.- Ahem, anywho. Thanks for pointing out the boss monsters- because honestly, I haven't even given those a second of thought. How do you personally decide what kind of bosses to use? Should it be they're similarly related to the other monsters? Should they be totally unrelated but with a backstory that explains it? And what should they be? Honestly I stink with stats and try to keep it logical...ish...but last time I worked on a creature and its stats in a playthrough I ended up having them constantly evading me and it never got anywhere. Best part: They had the lowest stats possible because I was having said problem. I like the idea of using the fears of the characters as part of choosing monsters. Looks like I'm definitely gonna have some sort of fishy water monster thing. Maybe a mermaid...Or just a giant blob of water. *shrugs*
  23. Aw but now I don't want to call you Tiggy just because it's common... I kid, I kid. It's too cute not to call you that anyway. And yes, you were just called cute by a random person. i promise that's not my way of hitting on you. xD
  24. I thought of making a poll with this honestly, but I can't decide what types of responses to put in it, so this is gonna be a super open ended question instead....I know it's a very broad question and probably the answer would depend on the game, but what kind of creatures/characters do you like to fight against? There are all sorts of ghouls, goblins and gangsters in RPGs, and some fit some scenes better than others- but some are also just a lot more fun to fight somehow. What makes a battle enemy interesting to you? Do you care, not care, prefer humanoid or jelly blobs? My main project right now takes place at a school with mostly normal people and a few magical humans whom you can include in your party. I've thought of making some environmental maps to practice, explore and fight on- but even if it's within the school or in nature, I just don't know what kinds of battles would make players really enjoy it. So, I started thinking about what I like to battle: I really like things that are weird in a way. Jellies aren't weird, but it's hard to figure out what they're based on. Mimics? Funny. Giant cucumbers? You bet. I tend to really love the ones with punny names, too. For me, it's all about what makes me laugh. But I'd feel weird if I had to battle a cucumber in a barn full of cows. They still have to fit. In general, what do you guys like to battle? Or what kind of creatures do you tend to include most in your games? Humanoid, animal-based or none of the above? Mostly physical or elemental movesets? I'm curious what everyone likes. This is both for research and curiosity: What would be the most fun battle to you?
  25. I can't decide if you're trying to be totally ironic, sarcastic or serious at all Tigurus, but either way, I'm gonna call you Tiggy this post for fun. Because it's adorable. And thanks for the warm welcome xD
