  1. I mainly use rmvx, so I guess I'm partial to it lol,
  2. Create a title screen with these choices: VX: Create a screen of your choosing with a island or ocean theme. Add a logo( GIMP has some, and CoolText is a good option) XP: Create a screen of your choosing with a death or evil theme. Add a logo( GIMP has some, and CoolText is a good option) Challenge: Find a way to have a person visible in the title( on a island, approaching a big castle etc) and have a realistic shadow of them. I will later explain how to do this, though there are many ways I think.
  3. What will covered: Tips and Tricks Using Brushes effectively Tips and Tricks When making a title screen, remember where your new game, continue and game over will be so that you don't place anything like the title itself underneath. You do not have to have words in your title. In the chance you choose not to, try to make the picture convey the title. Do not spam it with brushes and thousands of images. This will be hard to look at and not pleasing to the eye. For a freshness, use a script that loads a random title screen or a animated one. Try not to reveal a lot of info in the title such as seeing that player's tombstone If you use brushes in Gimp/Photoshop, set the brush dynamics size to random for a depth-ness. This is useful for clouds, stars etc. Using Brushes Effectively If you do not know what a brush is, then a good place to go is Gimps tutorial page at thier website, or something similar. Using the Brush Dynamics, a brush can have a random opacity, size and a lot more things I reccomend going here for brushes. After extracting them, copy the contents to the brushes folder in the folder that you installed GIMP in. Anything can be a brush with the paste option, "Paste as New Brush" This is also a way to create your own brushes
  4. Well there is scripts available and you could event it, but either way they usually lag.

  9. I though Zelda was the most selling game franchise.
  10. For the first assessment you will need to edit the main sprite of your choice, be it Aluxes, or Ralph. If you choose Aluxes: Change his hair color to blue Replace his armor with that of Cyrus CHALLENGE: Give him a expression to describe being "Meh . . ." If you choose Ralph: Change his hair color to dark grey Replace his armor with that of Oscar CHALLENGE: Give him a expression to describe being "Yippee! . . ." TIP: Multiply Tool

  16. What will covered: Recolors Shadowing Frankenspriting Full Custom Spriting -Recolors- For some odd reason you'll end up having to change the color of a sprite(This actually applies to all images), likely because you have the image you want, but it needs to have yellow hair or African American skin. This will give you tips on this Gimp has a tool, "Select by Color" it appears as a hand over the three base colors red, blue, and green. This tool allows you to select all pixels of the same color in a image, this speeds up recoloring considerably. To change that color use the colorize tool or colorify, each may be suited for different tasks; you just have to experiment. Sometimes Select by Color doesnt work right for your current project. You can use the paint button or brush(preferably the paint button in my opinion) and use the "Multiply" mode to apply a hue on the image while retaining the shadowed areas and lighting. I personally spam this all the time, very useful for custom spriting. Using the "Burn/Dodge" tool you can increase the lightness of the image or darken it, this is helpful if you only want part of a image to change. -Shadowing- When doing a custom sprite, having shading done right is critical, it might be a small effect but a effect that should be done right When do create the shadow, try to image were the sun would be. Avoid pillow shading, or when you create a shadow that seems like the sun is directly over the sprite (shadowing from all sides) Don't make the shades so dark or light that they are hard to see the difference. Like I said, using the multiply tool saves you the hassle of shadowing. -Frankenspriting- It lives!!! From taking pieces of sprites and putting them back together you create a new sprite! Using the Select by Color Tool in conjunction with the delete button you can remove whole sections of a sprite. However this may also lead to random faults in the sprite depending on the range of colors. When you cut and paste into a new image, make sure it is aligned so that there isn't jiggling when using the sprite. -Full Custom Spriting- It will enhance your game tremendously When making a template to use, make sure that it is consistent, proper shading is applied to the appropriate body parts and specifically desired, avoid big heads, small arms and legs. When spriting make sure that the colors you use are pleasing to the eye, make all similar colors look natural from the 100 viewpoint(just a sidenote, I reccomend working on a 800 viewpoint) I usually flip the downward and upward walking frames so as to lessen the time spent spriting, however you add something that sticks to the side( scarf, wierd hairstyle, glove) DON'T FLIP THE SPRITE! You'll have to sprite it manually Scarfs and similar items move walking because of the wind. If you want to go a extra mile, have a idle animation where it moves.
  17. I was wondering this while I was making the first topic in my graphic class(that I am very grateful for ) I think being able to save a topic to be able to finish it later before it being visible to the public would be a great idea. I've never seen this so I wouldnt know if its possible.
