Sentay33 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2014 So, I have got together with some friends and did some talking, and we got on the subject of my game. After talking about it, we all decided it'd be cool to do a project and begin a kickstarter for it, so we can do our own music, characters, maps, basically make all of our own resources from scratch and build a game completely from the ground up using the RMXP game engine. My question is, would a game for RMXP even take off as a kickstarter? or would it be best to move to VX ace? (which I do not want to do, I personally do not like VX/VX Ace) Or should I even do a kickstarter at all? I would love to do this, because it'd give me the opportunity to have something on my resume that I've technically "had a job" doing. Getting paid to make my own Video Game. My only real question is... Is it worth it to start a kickstarter, and would it even take off? I'm worried that it being an RPG Maker game, it'd get little to no funding, and it'd fall through. So has anyone here done a kickstarter for an RPG Maker game, and did it work? Or is it too risky?
Bob423 52 Report post Posted April 5, 2014 It really just depends on advertising and the quality of what you've done so far. If people think it looks cool and want to see it finished, they'll probably support it. Or maybe I'm just being optimistic.
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted April 5, 2014 Theres really no risk in doing a kickstarter. If people like it they will donate. Theres lots of RMXP games on steam already.
Catherine 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Depends on if they like it or not--if it's good quality and interesting, that is. One of the RPG games I've seen that make money is To the Moon, and that was definitely something that grabbed people's attention; the graphics, quality, and story were all amazing. If you think your game's got the ability to go a ways, then why not give it a try?
madanchi 18 Report post Posted April 6, 2014 Go for it, all you need is a kick-ass layout and update at least once every week, but I'd recommend once every day or two. Along with a great looking layout it obviously comes down to what you're actually going to make and if it's worth peoples time and money.
