Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 I was thinking after reading Wyzrd's "Let Me Live My Life"; does Fate exist? Fate is supposed to be what we do every second of the day. But, if I decided to post this topic when Fate had decided I wouldn't, does that mean that now I have a completely new fate instead of what would happen, or has it just been altered a little bit? I exuse people who do not understand a single word I say. Please post what you think.

Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted June 29, 2009 Of course. Thanks for the comment.
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 It depends on your interpretation of fate. I don't believe that everything I do and that has happened to me was supposed to happen. I can see why someone would want to believe that, it would make tragedies in their lives seem a lot less tragic, because "it was meant to be". Although the absolute randomness of everyday that leads to an overall outcome could be called fate, its unavoidable in the end so perhaps that what fate is and it does exist. Or you could think of it like this. The future is a man-made concept. There is infact no future, just the present and the past, whats happening and whats happened. The future is just someones "plans", and the future is completely 100% undetermined until it is the present.
solshadow 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 I support what Marked said but also....I dunno if this falls under "Fate" or what have you but I do think that there is an inconceivable amount of parallel universes, each with their own unique take on your life, the affects of it and just..well everything. Fate is just another creation to ease our minds and while i don't call it fate per se i do infact believe in it, but in the form of Luck. Sorry if i ran around in circles heehee
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Marked does make sense, but there are somethings SolShadow said that sorta make sense also. But, with the whole Parallel universes thing, the concept is a bit flawed; If there is a universe that is completely opposite to ours... nothing would exist. My friend has an interesting theory. If you get 2 mirrors that are EXACTLY the same in all ways and you were to put them both reflecting eachover on the EXACT same angle and everything... What would you see in the middle?
solshadow 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Well parallel universes arent necessarily opposite but it just means that the universe will never intersect with another. Think of them as billions upon billions of you. Say you have the choice of having cereal or poptarts for breakfast. In one you choose cereal, in another you choose poptarts, in one you dont even wake up in time for breakfast. And on and on and on, all possible "what if" questions happen in a different universe but there are so many "what if" questions that we encounter everyday that makes it impossible to see the future kinda like what Marked said. Has anyone seen that movie with Nicolas Cage movie "Next". *Highlight text as it is a spoiler* He is a Las Vegas magician who can see 2 minutes into the future and is being chased down by the FBI so they can use his power. Basically he comes across a girl who enables him to see a full 2 days into the future. The point i want to get a across is at the end of the movie they succeed in stopping a terrorist group from setting up bombs only for Cage to realized that he "messed up somewhere" and didn't predict the future correctly. The cast, along with the entire west coast I think, go up in flames in get nuked. The movie then zones back out to Cage and the girl, insisting that he played out the events of the future 2 days in his head. Kinda relates to the whole you never know the future intil it becomes the present That mirror question is interesting, I do know what mirrors are like snowflakes and no 2 are exactly the same due to the process of how mirrors are made (superheating sand) but im sure if that did happen then either existance would end or you would have discovered the fourth dimension heehee EDIT: Also I just thought of something, if there was another universe that was completely opposite to ours then both would still exist just as there is good and evil in the world. Im not trying to say that good and evil are completely yin and yang but im saying that universes arent anti-matter and matter. Now it is true that anti-matter and matter did create the universe we live in (sorry but im not "true" religious type) but its kinda like any living thing. For example both your parents assisted in making you but your not either/or ya know? Maybe im just rambling again...
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Well, I agree with the whole "if you choose cerial then the other might have chosen pop-tarts". Maybe thats what Deja Vu is; A temporary interception of memory from another dimension.
formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted June 30, 2009 Yet what if your future was already decided for you? No matter what you do, it's already happened, it was meant to happen. You cannot go against Fate, or alter Fate, because what we do is Fate. What I'm trying to say is, no matter our actions, they were already determined the moment we were born. That's why movies such as The Matrix were so impressive, because it was literally defying the logic in place, as Morpheus said, "Throughout human history, we have been dependent on machines to survive. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony." EDIT: Another interesting thing is this conversation from The Matrix between The Oracle and Neo: Oracle: I'd ask you to sit down, but, you're not going to anyway. And don't worry about the vase. Neo: What vase? [Neo turns to look for a vase, and as he does, he knocks over a vase of flowers, which shatters on the floor] Oracle: That vase. Neo: I'm sorry... Oracle: I said don't worry about it. I'll get one of my kids to fix it. Neo: How did you know? Oracle: Ohh, what's really going to bake your noodle later on is, would you still have broken it if I hadn't said anything? Leon 55 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 *In a slightly raspy and old voice* "My, God, Marty! We've cause a time paraddox!" Fate is a funny thing. Much like the theory of a time travel paraddox. Honestly, I think we do have say in the menial things in life, but the inevitable conclusion is always the same. From the moment you are born, it is said when you will die. Now yes, you can change that fact, but in doing so, does this set off another random tangent of what the future will hold? Butterfly effect, man. What would have happened if Peter married Molly Ringwald instead of Lois? What would have happened if Hillary beat Barrack? Only one way to know, and it skews us into a whole 'nother world of debate. For those of us who really want to get hard core on this subject, we must start work on a flux capcitor.
solshadow 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Yay! Cant discuss fate without talk of parallel universes (a.k.a alternate realities). We also need a Delorean to go with that flux capacitor Marked haha
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Well, we can either go with the Flux Capcitor or, my favourite, the Chaos Theory! In mathematics, the Chaos Theory describes the behavior of certain Dynamical Systems - that is, systems whose states evolve with time – that may exhibit dynamics that are highly sensitive to initial conditions with also ties back in with Leons Butterfly Effect. As a result of this sensitivity, which manifests itself as an exponential growth of perturbations in the initial conditions, the behavior of chaotic systems appears to be random. This happens even though these systems are determistic, meaning that their future dynamics are fully defined by their initial conditions with no random elements involved. This behavior is known as deterministic chaos, or simply chaos. This also indicates that if you were able to see and observe every single partical in the known universe and be smart enough to calculate their angle of trajectory and collision you would be able to make a resonable and accurate ussumption of the future. Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Forget the mathematics part and read it :D . It makes quite a lot of sense actually.
Leon 55 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 In essence, Tomo, numerology.
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Exactly :D .
Tosharu 1 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 m Interesting. So that's where numerology actually stems from (in a sense) My view of fate.. oh god. GREAT Example. Yesterday, I wanted to call up a friend who I haven't been able to REALLY talk to. My cousin was visiting me and I had already failed to contact my friend once. I lost my calling card. While looking for it, I had rage fitted and pretty well put a small dent in my wall. >.< That is SO coming out of my damage deposit later... Anyhow. Basically. All day that day, nothing was within my control. Every single thing I tried to do to be in control of what was happening to me or with me sort of failed. Until I calmed down. I still didn't manage to find my calling card. So, at 1 am in the morning with utter determination I looked for it. I found it. The will I had led me to find it. In a calm state. So, while still determined I went to use the phone. BUT WAIT THERES MORE! As it turns out, the phone wasn't on the charger it was dead and to boot the charger itself was UNPLUGGED!! So, I went to borrow my mom's phone. Turns out I couldn't find it I had no luck. So, FINALLY I say screw it and walk to a pay phone. (Yes a pay phone at 1 am in the morning to call this friend because my determination was driving me.) I GET to the payphone and dial up the calling card# and enter my pin. Yet... to my dismay. I get an automated message telling me "We're sorry, your calling card has not been activated. Please enter a different calling card pin #. Thank you--from Telus" I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Basically... that entire day I felt like reality was screwing with me... toying with me. But.. later I realized.. it wasn't toying with me. Whatever forces are really OUT There, they wanted me to learn a few lessons. I indeed did learn a few lessons. Anyways.. I couldn't even return the calling card because I didn't have my reciept and what's worse!! THE PURCHASE of my calling card didn't even show up on their computers!! When I payed for it right there the previous day, using my debit card. GO FIGURE!! And... HOW MYSTERIOUS IS THAT?? So many forces out there messing with me u_u. Btw... I determine a force as "anything with movement or the ability to influence another force" whether it be physical or otherwise.. The odds were completely stacked against me. The moral? EVEN IF I Had found my calling card earlier that day... it would have been useless to me because it wasn't activated. My point? I was "fated" to not be able to use that specific calling card. There could have been another way around it, but I failed to find one. I ended up buying a brand new one.. just to compensate. *sigh*
