the top part of the path looks as if the edge is fading down and yet the bottom area is going up with a wall, it creates a strange appearance to me is all

I decided to rebuild the previous maps because it flowed really weird...stopped in odd places and didn't look very natural. So here is a current WIP piece of the previous map under changes:

What do you guys think? More natural looking mountains than before, or worse? *If more detail is needed on the maps, just say so :P*

I think the reason why the map looks weird is because the mountains look identical. Add some changes and it will look better.

Hmm...Okay, I shall try again! :D

So the new screenshot, is it better than the last screeny's mountains? Am I going in a better direction, or the same/worse direction?

hey iv pointed some bits that are a bit odd out in this image here:

blue: the smaller cliff looks as though its lapping onto the cliff below

red: the cliff size looks as though it doesn't lap onto the smaller one

orange: same again

green: if you haven't used separate tiles then it looks as though the path is not accessible, also where the line follow round there should be a cliff line or the hole top should be pushed back to the black line

also here is a tile edit i did it may come of use :)

The path is possible to get to (if you mean to top right corner where the grass and dirt is), you have to go through the cave first :)

Here is the screeny where I will try to describe what I mean.

RED:

I'm not sure I get what you mean, but let me explain what I was doing:

The smaller cliffs on the bigger cliffs (etc etc) are meant to look a bit more realistic. On real life mountains and cliffs, you have separate pieces of cliff, smaller or bigger, generally smaller though. Some good examples of what I mean:

http://www.alegriphotos.com/images/City-at-the-foot-of-steep-mountain-walls1279.jpg

BLACK: The parts I circled in black are the pieces that are lower than the rest. "Poking" (or growing) out of the side of the mountain near the base. If that makes sense?

I have circled in black, examples of what I circled in black in my screenshot, that appears in real life. Of course I couldn't perfectly emulate it...

BLUE: You are correct about the blue...I had forgotten that. Well I suppose I will rebuild it with events and trigger it according? Or I'll rebuild that part. Thanks for pointing that out xD

I hope I explained it well xD

the red part on the right is ok, its mainly the left one if you count the tiles of the cliff scale its the same amount as the one leading onto the lower lvl so it doesnt seem raised if you get what i mean :)

----New submission:

So I wanted a travel system and I wanted a world map , so i did some parrallax mapping and came up with an idea on how to mix the element of RTP and world travel, i didn't want the usual, so I went with a "new" type of travel...it isn't anything special, but I just hope it appeals :)

cotc6.png

[Not final logo]

The top text where it says: Niflheim is to tell which world part you are in, and the logo next to it, is the symbol of Niflheim, Why exactly that is the symbol will be explained in the topic ( if i ever create one)

The bottom text says: Heaven of Mana, which is the current map you are in, Heaven of Mana has about 2-3 parts, and this is the first part :)

The monsters on the side are overworld monsters whom you can approach and fight (battle system is not yet clear), and the directional pointers are to show where you can enter a "map"

changes to be made: The forests on the side are going to be better mapped with parrallex mapping, this was a quick example to show how it was supposed to look, the monsters will be random encountered on the world map, a world map system to show how close you are to random encounter :)

That's the world map? It's different than traditional world maps. I like it because players get to walk to enemies they want to fight.

That looks really cool, Calamity.

But you really shouldn't use the Papyrus font... ever.

Here's a map I did for a bit more than 1 and a half year ago:

In case you're wondering, it's not used in any game or something.

I like it, a lot! The only problem I see is that some of the flowers are lined up, if you know what I mean?

I can see some where two are lined up but not more. Is that what you mean?

Why is the ingame colortone so extremely unnatural?

I wanted it to look like morning, but I couldn't get it any better...

If any, it looks more like sunset instead of sunrise. I remember a nice guide about color on hbgames, but can't seem to find it right now. If i find it, i'll pm.

Now that i'm here:

@Gary The Duck:

Yes and no. I meant that as well, but some of the flowers are too close to each other. Maybe scattered them around, or vary the flower types? I have a huge collection of flowers and plants, if you would like them :)

@gRaViJa:

That's pretty cool! I like the screen tone and the tower. There isn't much to comment on because its a top of a mountain. Maybe some smaller rock pebbles scattered about?

The tower looks...ominious, yeah. Nice job. But I agree with Crimson, try adding some more detail.

Some practice so I don't get rusty:

The left side doesn't look empty to me, besides the space to the right of the sand's bottom part; which doesn't bother me.

PS, the graphics is a tileset/template called Breeze Revolution, from RPG Revolution.

Edit: Added a redo recently:
