I want to learn scripting.

Question

Where can I learn how to make scripts for the RPG Maker VX? I want to start making scripts for the community.

Thanks

As do I, rpg revolution has tutorials here and I personally enjoy this one. You are taught ruby, the language in which rgss2 is based off of and which I am learning, in your broswer here

First how well do you know switches and variables?

You need to know them lots.

Leon got some good XP tuts. XP is a little more advanced but the best place to start because VX hides the advanced stuff and can cripple learning.

Edit: start off making edits to scene_end. then try to add things to it.

scene_end is the most simple script and easiest to edit.

Once you get the feel of windows you should try to make your own or edit one, and put it in the Scene_Map or Scene_Menu.

Personally reading never got me anywhere in terms of learning the logic behind things. I sort of used tutorials as a guide rather then learning from them.

I did attempt a few RGSS Scripts which you can find in the archives, but I never really got into it. How I learned to code is I thought of the thing that I wanted to create, and then I went out and tried to it. You just have to dive straight in and play around, maybe come back and post on the forums about a certain point, google a couple things. That's how I'd go about it.

Here's a topic I found interesting relating to PHP, but I think it equally applies to other programming languages. Maybe give it a skim? http://www.webdevrefinery.com/forums/topic/3832-how-did-you-guys-learn-php/
