Remaking An Old Game, But With A Team?

Recommended Posts

Ignore the subtitle. This is more about questions regarding the aspects of having a team than recruiting myself a staff. *Ahem*

Hello, all!

As some of you might have gathered, I am a very ambitious man. (Gee, what gave it away?) One of the top things I've been meaning to do next year is to build my first true RPG game from the ground up, this time with a cast and crew. Voice actors are a given, since I happen to have access to some very dedicated ones for my works, but the rest (mapping, eventing, spriters, battle system, composing, artists, ect) are still very much up in the air. If I do want to go all out on that next project, there were some questions I wanted to ask before I initially start:

1)What would be the best way to import maps and events between each other? I recall drag/dropping maps/events/enemies/ect before, but never made a change. More critically, I tried importing specifically moves, and the file 'replaced' the older one alright, but I never saw the moves. ;_;

2) As of this year,

. Nowhere near "good", but decent. If I intend on using original art, voices, and sprites, should I drop the awesome composer Sakimoto and try for original pieces myself? And if I do, would it be fine if I dragged one or two composers to help me (while keeping a common theme going)?

3) Would it be easy to find a dedicated staff for RMXP on the good ole' internets? If so, what are some resources I could use?

4) Is there a script or something that helps protect people from just using your original music and artwork/data?

5) Potential answer to a potential question: Just like everything else I've released as a team effort - said staff would work for free. I'm poor. I do poor things. =p

For question 1, I think you can copy and paste things directly between RPG Maker XP projects. For example copy a monster and paste it into any random ID in another project.

As long as you don't come off like a complete newbie that is totally helpless then I think you can recruit a team. As the leader the team members need to have faith and you have to work hard to maintain things, otherwise it all falls apart pretty quickly. If members were to see your signature, it looks pretty professional and people want to be apart of something worth doing, so I think you should be able to find a team. For XP though, I don't know these days. Its certainly not as easy as it used to be.

Yes you can copy almost anything: scripts, heros, enemies, items, maps, map settings (to some degree), etc. I think VX is the same as well.

Tell me if you need anything event wise. I know how to do about 32 different systems (mostly professions) and can make any event flawless =D

^ Why thanks. I get the feeling I'll be needing an epic team to get a good game out in a timely manner. XD

Would anyone happen to know the reason why copying the little blue files from the folders specifically don't work?

Little blue files? Umm... I don't even know what your talking about there :sweatdrop: If you need some better eventing or maybe some spriting (still not too good, got a long way to go before I can do good scratch work, I can do great edits) just ask :biggrin_002: I'd love helping.

I've had some experience making Zelda games using only events, if you want that kind of battle system I can help you with that.

@Two posts above: You know, the individual map files! =D Or the individual anything-files. They're blue, have a dragon icon, really small in size? If you drag Map 33 into a new project, you won't see map 33? D'=

@Post above: The battle system will be turn based, so the voice actors won't be a clusterphobia of a mess.

Also, I need number 4 answered. lol

There is a "Commercial Game Script" the was done by Blizzard ( I think ) on RPG Crisis, I don't know if it protects files, but it might be worth looking into :)

^ I desperately need mappers. XD;; It's becoming increasingly harder finding a good mapper who'll work with me in comparison to finding a good and dedicated voice actor - which may sound hard to believe, but voila. XD

Did look into, but I couldn't find it. And I looked! D'=

If only I had more time on my hand I would love to help. I'm a bit to busy to right now though as a friend just discovered RMXP and I'm teaching him how to use it and I also have 3 projects taking up my time.

^That's plenty alright. This is more of a pre-staff-check of sorts anyways.

Thanks! I'll give her a whirl right away.

Valid Point. (However I'm mostly just enticed by the thought of help others fufufufufu...)

Also, It's important to be organized. Wither it be through e-mail or chat windows, having the whole team talking is an important aspect of any working force.

Rule 1: Get her number.

^ Ah, valid point meaning you find me and my sig very organized and more than willing to help! ^_^ [/done and shot for it. xD]

Organization often turns me off from helping other people with the resources I have, so I agree: the more organized and serious effort you put into your things, the more support you have a chance at getting.

More questions for this game's development!

-Is there a way to have animated (or scrolling) backgrounds in RMXP battle systems?

-Is there a script that allows you to use the game's maps for battlebacks, or should I just screencap it? =p
