Menu Won't Work

Question

This is probably a relatively simple problem, though it's still one I just can't seem to figure out. I hope somebody can help me with this issue.

Basically, the problem is that all of a sudden, the X button no longer opens the menu in my game. I didn't change any commands (I don't even know where to do so), and I didn't mess around with some files, either.

The last thing I did was import some new graphics for one of my characters. I saved the changes, and closed RMXP. Now a few days later, I decided to work for a bit on my game again, only to suddenly discover this problem.

Has anybody ran into a similar problem, and knows how to solve this?

Hit F1 when in game and check the controls. Someone else could have changed them without you knowing or something could have gone wrong.

The X Button or the X Key?

RMXP games use 8-button gamepad-style controls.

By default, each button (A, B, C, X, Y, Z, L, R) corresponds to the following command. Some gamepad buttons may already be labeled with some of these letters, making the controls even easier to understand.

So the X button is the A Key, where as the X Key is the B button.

If that doesn't help, then you can press F1 while in-game like Polraudio said and open up the gamepad settings:

Mine changed by themselves once after my PC was infected by a virus and I had to reinstall it, and it was different. Didn't know how to change it xD

Anyways, it might have changed by itself. You should check the settings.

Don't forget if none of the above works, to try creating a new game and bringing up the menu in it. You mentioned something about importing graphics into the game, and while I'm fairly certain that shouldn't do anything, I've been having some whacky problems that shouldn't exist myself xD So it's always a good idea to see if it's something with your game specifically, or the program/your computer.

Alright, I checked the in-game controls, and it turned out that the X key was suddenly no longer bound to the B button. I changed it, and now it seems to work perfectly again. Thanks for the help!

PS: Kiriashi, thanks for noting the difference between keys and buttons, I didn't realise that there was a difference between them. I'll keep it in mind from now on! :sweatdrop:
