Improved autotile recognition grid

Recommended Posts

Don't know if anyone's done this before (and if was, sorry for the redundancy) but I had a literal wallbanging moments of headhurting with the autotiles until I'd decided to just print this out and tape it to the wall. Might be useful. :)

Ah I know what that is, its the way the auto-tiles line up when used and how they come together like puzzle pieces. A bit of a fun thing really, the left hand corner looks like it's supposed to be the actual auto-tile, could be useful for making an auto-tile template. A little messy though but effective.

Never though of auto-tiles as 6blocks across and 6blocks down and making each box 16x16, that could make for some easier understanding of how they work, nice job.

Thanks. Autotiles are 96x128 it's only good as reference (unless you're using Character Maker 1999). :) Please note how RMXP likes to abuse repeating the tile square (3A-3D, 4A-4D) whenever the tile needs to stretch. Wherever there's a vertical line, the autotiling tries to shove together the far left and right sides of the autotile. It's kind of frustrating when you're trying to hiding obvious tiling.

Gonna check this I think you can use the auto-tiles in a better way to get a unique look to those wide spaces, though generally if it's a large space I don't like to use an auto-tile.

Okay yeah had to double check this, don't know if you know about it but try double clicking on the auto-tile to open up a new window with auto-tile expansion. This is a bit more difficult to get used to but is effective if used right.

No, I didn't. :( I just wasted almost two days on something so obvious.

Hmm. It just gives me all possible permutations and requires me to lay down tiles singly. Lazy bpen is lazy. Using the fill tool just repeats that tile. But still hohoho-yes! This is friggin useful, man. Thank you!
