Games and Movies Now Vs. Games and Movies Back in the Day

I have noticed now days our games are starting to get worse every year. It seems like game company's are releasing a new game each year instead of every few years and releasing games with tons of bugs and only fixing a fraction of them.

Example: The new map pack for Battlefield Bad Company 2 had lots of mapping errors. It looked like they just slapped rocks down and forgot to move them into the ground. Few floating bushes also here and there.

It also seems like a new COD is coming out each year.

I think game company's are starting to get very very lazy.

I remember back in the day waiting 2-3 years for a new Final Fantasy to come out.

Also remember when Final Fantasy was 40-80 hours long instead of this crappy 20 hours and straight story with no freedom.

Not much to say about movies besides them running out of ideas and have to copy other movie ideas.

Movies should stay away from anime because they make the movies to short and they suck. Example: Dragonball Evolution.

Whats your opinion?

I feel the same way. I still play a few vintage games myself. I also remember the good ol' days when I would play PSX games. Even though their graphics were terrible, the storylines and gameplay rocked (Metal Gear Solid and Fighting Force :P ). If I had to choose between modern games and vintage games, I'd choose the vintage ones.

It also seems like a new COD is coming out each year.

CoD Modern Warefare 3 may be coming out next year btw...

Nobody in either industry is really thinking about doing something creative, they just want something fast and cheep that they will sell good. Honestly I rather dislike newer game's, Square literally took Final Fantasy III(j) (Not Final Fantasy VI which we all know was III(USA) and remade it for the Nintendo DS, the new version has advanced graphics and is extremely buggy, of course conversion from NES to NDS wouldn't go exactly smooth when you're changing the old 2D classic RPG graphics into shiney new 3D graphics that doesn't even look great. Most game's made today lack an important aspect, depth; as an example I'll mention Final Fantasy VII how many people had to reach for a tissue when Aerith died? I know I sure did.

As far as movies all I see are remakes of the same things, that or gorror flicks (the supposed horror movies that focus on blood and guts, ooh so scary). Seems that new ideas are pushed aside for the stuff that has been done time and time again.

Alas, it seems we live in an age and time when pioneer spirit and new ideas are frowned upon in favor of the big box office hit, second version.

It's hard to come up with an original story for games or movies with already so much of them out there. There's not much room for imagination but it does seem like gaming companies and movie producers don't try anymore.

Specifically talking about games,

I think every video game in world could be better, I would never give ANY game a 10

So I look foward to future games that correct the mistakes of the past and bring new creativity (My Games :haha: :king: )

For Example, I liked Pokemon, notice I didn't say "love"

i could tell you 100 things they did right with pokemon

and

1000 things wrong with pokemon

(Speaking of pokemon, every pokemon adds more pointless advancements every game. Like decorating a pile of feces, or in pokemons case, a brick. Not a bad brick but a brick that could totatlly be improved)

Wait:

COD comes out so often cause Infinity Ward and Treyarch make it alternatively

Infinity Ward Makes Modern Warefare Series

and Treyarch makes the History themed Series like World at War and Black Ops

Mw3 gonna be delayed because of legal issues

In my opinion it depends on the game

like treyarch has never really been good with graphics and that shows in black ops

But then again, look at what happened to Sonic the Hedgehog

But I must admit, The Campaign of Black Ops was best so far

story wise

With all the "work" on Final Fantasy, the Kingdom Hearts Series is getting Jack Squat, and in all honesty, I never really got into the Final Fantasy Genre

I started as a nintendo gamer, switch to ps2 in its mid year, got the xbox when it came out, then switched to a ps2/xbox gamer(never got live) than a ps2 gamer, so then I got a ps3 and became a Playstation 2/3 Gamer, stuck with it for a while, got a wii, then a 360 but when my ps3 broke i was miserable and all i could play was the wii, so once i got a new controller I sold 360 for black ops and have remained a playstaion gamer, although, the more games that come out the less of them I buy

over the past 2 years ive only bought a 1 video game a year, and that was Mw2 and Blacks Ops. My first Cod was Mw2 which was good, but Black Ops is much better so thats probably the only reason I got it, that and my friends from school got it so yah

Wow, look at that block of text

Hey but you know its not a new thing, look at nintendo

since its the only one of the big 3 that is just a "game" company it releases new consoles any where from every .5 to 1.5 years (every DS/GBA is a new console)

Also the reason that the Wii isnt much different from the Gamecube, most of the nintendo budget went into marketing, It had to make the most money in the most cost effective way

the increase release of games could also be to the advent of gamer generation growing older, more kids are taking game design courses and starting up companies...

it'll either blow over or blow up in the next couple of years

as long as enough ppl like the original, the developers can get away with making a sequel which has to meet enough expectations to get a third game

i mean look at black ops

to me black ops is nearly exactly the same as MW2 which i enjoyed, except it has more stuff, like game modes, customization, etc.

Gaming industry is growing really fast

thats basically what im trying to say :biggrin_002:

ALso the advent of internet Gaming allows games to be release much earlier than necessary because if players notice a bug, they can simply go in and patch the game

"In all honesty, though Im a sucker for Eyecandy and Game playability, (the First RPG i actually cared about was Kingdom Hearts)"

It's hard to come up with an original story for games or movies with already so much of them out there. There's not much room for imagination but it does seem like gaming companies and movie producers don't try anymore.

What reason do we give them to try, there's always going to be a group that's going to buy new games and go to theaters to see every new movie released. They can do the bad games and bad movies at a fraction of the price they could do something worthwhile. They don't even have to do original just need's to be presented in an original and appealing way. Square can make all the Final Fantasy's they want but if it feels like the same game with less depth then whats the point? Eventually that same game over and over will only sell to the dedicated fan boys who buy every game in the series along with everything they can get their hands on with that title. Pretty much the same with movies except instead of a sequel its a remake of a timeless classic.

Now on occasion there are some unique idea's that come out just as an example a game that came out a few years ago, Eternal Sonata, was actually a good game that had depth and some originality, though it didn't sell as well as it should.

How many Call to Duty games are out now? Or better question how many football games have been released in the past years to many for me to count and while technically they are game's I consider them nothing more than lazy sports. I actually get mad when I hear someone talking about their "collection" and they have 2+ NFL "games", come on wanna play football get outside and play don't sit on a couch buying out so that the quality of games has to drop to barely above crap, give it 2 or 3 years and designers will literally take a dump in a box and sell it as a game (sarcasm).

If and only if we are lucky there might be a decent game out that sells well that can help slightly improve the overall quality.

For some games, A story line isn't necessary

Madden comes out every year, because it is the fantasy of football for the year it came out

Sports games that are based off current times always update like that, simply because its impossible for Madden 2010 to have all the Draft Picks and team switches of Madden 2011, unless it updated, but then why would they do that

Madden HAS to come out in the year its representing or there is no point buying it

NO ONE buys Madden 2000 unless they are a hardcore collector

Madden is FANTASY sports, so ppl who watch a lot of football put them selves in the shoes of their favorite player

Sure many ppl(disabled can't) can go outside(unless conditions are un favorable) and play football.

But there is virtually zero chance of them Playing in the NFL let alone playing along side their favorite players

i totally agree. it's all about repetiton and securing their money. we buyers are stupid enough to buy every crap they serve us, without judging them. it's totally wrong. i believe that nowadays the only way to fand some really amzing and new staff, is to run away from mainstream. smaller companies or just simple people with dreams, can make a difference, because they work with more dedication and quality. as for the movies... it's all getting worse. i have a very recent example in my mind. a few months ago me and my friend decided to sit down and watch all the star wars series. well, he loves special effects etc, so when we saw the 3 first ones he was amazed. (you know, the new ones...). then we sat down and watch all other three of them and we were both upset because we realised the original movies were way better. that happens all the time, and we are those who encourage it. it's too sad to admit it, but unless we stop buying whatever they might sell us, we're only gonna see things getting worse year after year...

I believe it is objective

The more main stream something becomes the more its derivatives depreciate in quality

Polraudio = mainstreamity Enigma = quality

in this equation

abs(-6K(sqrt Polraudio)^(1/Polraudio)) = Enigma

K is the constant which varies based on the Mediability or Kiriashi of an Area

Kiriashi = Mediability

I understand the fact that it's fantasy sports but, you also pointed out something rather important "Madden HAS to come out in the year its representing or there is no point buying it" a new game will come out in the next year and everyone will toss the old one aside not caring about it wasting their time and money on a game that will be obsolete, again, next year. It's these people who waste their money on game's like these that ruin the game industry.

"But there is virtually zero chance of them Playing in the NFL let alone playing along side their favorite players" Shouldn't that be an almost zero chance of actually as it seems it's 100% possible virtually and only virtually.

Sorry, I don't see the point of these games. I'm not fond of game's based off a sport or first person shooter sequels because no matter what you change it's the exact same game as the one before. Madden 2010 and Madden 2011 same game only difference is one has "players" the other doesn't. That isn't much of a drastic change and doesn't actually affect the game play in anyway.

As far as getting away from mainstream and into the smaller companies and home brewed games I'll agree with for some aspects, the problem with them is they don't have the money and resources to make a truly great game so they have to cut back and trim corners. This of course doesn't actually hurt the game play but does however hurt the graphics and music quality. That's where the whole question of what really makes a game good, graphics or game play? Take a save the world RPG

3 blue dots and a pink dot are on a journey to discover the rectangle to defeat the evil triangle and save the square people of their world

3 boys and a girl are questing to find the sword of legend and defeat the evil demon who has enslaved humanity.

In essence they are the same things 3 blue dots are 3 boys, the girl is the pink ,the rectangle is the sword of legend, and the evil triangle is the evil demon. The game play never changes so which is better? The second one because it's prettier with flashing lights and pictures? Sure it might be more appealing but it's by no means better.

I know, but Fantasy Sports Cater to those who regularly keep up with and watch professional sports or those who Dream to one day play NFL

Many of My friends on the Basketball team have NBA 2k11

those games aren't about the gameplay (Football is football and always be football)

just like if you were a diehard nfl fan, you would get an NFL football not necessarily cause its better than a normal football, but just cause its NFL

Games and Movies are an industry, so decisions are made mainly on money

That's pretty much what I was trying to say, nothing is done because it's good or even decent, it's only done because of money. Sure there could be an awesome new game out there in the mix of these big companies but, we'll never see it because it's not a money making idea. I think this may be because most of the executives in these game development offices and even in movie studios have come to the conclusion, something that's suddenly new scares "normal" people so they steer away from something that would be unique and original for something that is tried and true. I think that tried and true is starting to become dull and boring, it's about time they actually step up with something different for a change instead of keeping the same thing redone over and over again.

I was only using the NFL and Madden example because they are the same game over and over again almost exact duplicates, except for minor small details that anyone, with half of the intelligence of a dung beetle, wouldn't care about. Sure fan's will keep getting the game's, that doesn't mean it isn't the same game with every release.

Uhhhh, what happened to Cartoon Network? Sorry I haven't watched TV in about oh 10 years.

Cartoon Network is still the same as it was. Except they are showing movies(real and not cartoon) and showing little kid shows more than others.

Money Money Money. Its to much about the money and not the fans. That's the main downfall. If game and movie company's would listen to the fans instead of the money they would be better off and maybe we will be getting higher quality stuff.

I had no idea about Cartoon Network.

The problem is they do listen to the "fans" only the fans they listen to are the rich ones that will buy every piece of crap they throw at them, those supposed fan's don't care if there's any actual quality because they mostly buy all the newer stuff just to show off, I had a friend in high school that was like that and I ended up giving him crap over it for buying what to me was considered the worst game's created, and just to put humor to the story he played some of them and agreed with me.

It's these people with more money than they know what to do with, or kids with mom and dads credit card that really cause ruin in the quality of games and movies produced today.

Just as games go, newer game's that come out usually have a base premise of shoot stuff and blow crap up. Sure it's fun the first 20 times it's done but after that how much different can it get? Heck take Halo slap on new textures for everything change Master Chief into General Massacre and it's practically a new game. Of course there's tiny difference's to game play like for example one game turns smoother and has quicker reaction to controls, others are slower to react and usually if your getting shot from behind you're dead before you can turn around. The biggest thing that game companies are cashing in on is online competitive game play, or even just game update packs from online. Buy the game then pay an extra $30 for the latest map pack for competition, and then the next time you turn around there's even more badly done maps that's going to cost almost as much as the game did in the first place (which by the way by waiting a month the game has dropped in price substantially.) I don't really have a good example for newer game's since I gave up on new releases and rarely will I bother playing anything that's come out in the past few years. I think the only "new" games I've really played would be Soul Caliber IV, and Eternal Sonata. I've played other new releases while visiting friends but sadly none of them are any good.

As for movies alone, some movie producers seem to have it in their head's that if a movie did good 20 years ago then they should remake it so it will do even better. Problem is it actually works in a twisted way, people who saw the original rush to see the remake time and time again and then talk about how bad it is. Don't see why they can't be like normal people and wait for it to come out on DVD then RENT it to see how horrible it made the original seem.

Now lets look at this year's biggest example, Tron: Legacy. The first Tron was a completely new concept for movies, after watching it a few times you noticed that it was quite similar to how the hardware in a computer works, this movie was an instant hit. It's really yet to be seen how good Tron: Legacy will be but there's definitely no chance that it will ever live up to the first one.

I guess it's safe to say that years in the future we'll still be seeing sequels and remakes.
