Crym 10 Report post Posted December 12, 2010 Okay, just out of curiosity list either your top 10 favorite RPG's or favorite RPG series. Also just to add a note The Legend of Zelda is not technically an RPG, as with RPG's comes "dice rolls" that determine how much damage you do and if you do any, where as Zelda is an action/puzzle adventure. While yes, there is a story it is not technically an RPG so that does not count. I will not and can not however stop you from including it in your list if you so feel that it fits. 10: Super Mario RPG / The game itself was hilarious though in reality it was a bit to short for my taste it did have an interesting story. When I had first played this game as a kid I couldn't wrap my head around teaming up with Bowser. 9: Earthbound / This game was not taken well at first release, the original concept was for the NES but was postponed, later it was reconsidered for the SNES where it made its first real appearance. Ness and his super genius friends, some of whom are psychic, have to save the world from the future, a quest given to this young child by... an insect. The over all concept was a good one but it was not pulled off as well as it should have been, even with that said it is one of my favorite RPG's. 8: Tales of Phantasia / A great game with great game play, though the battle system itself is difficult to get used to at first it eventually becomes second nature. The side view combat system used stuck with action rather than waiting and relying on the support of team mates became difficult as you had nearly no control over if they healed or not. 7: Secret of Mana / This was one of my favorite games when I was younger, it stayed challenging and had the best battle system for it's time. A game a few to many years ahead of it's time but, still a master piece that Square should forever be proud of. Little known fact of this game, it was originally made as a offshoot too Final Fantasy but ended up becoming it's own 2 part series. 6: Dragon Quest / This one speaks for itself, the ever present rival of the Final Fantasy series that is always one step behind. The game's in them self were good but it seemed as though much of the time they were trying to hard to be better than Squares cornerstone. 5: Chrono Trigger / Do I really need a reason? Okay here we go, time travelers who jump back and forth through time to save the world so to speak. Over all a game with a solid concept and solid plot, though the execution was slightly faulted. 4: Final Fantasy VI / Let me guess you thought that this would be my number 1? Sorry to disappoint you, the game was great and given that if you really took advantage of the strengths of some characters the game became much better. Though there were a few glitches with the original SNES version such as the all famous Wind God Gau and Psycho Cyan glitches (if you don't know what these are I'll have a extra notes section at the end). 3: Grandia / I couldn't just name one out of this series, the games were great. If you've never played any of them grab a copy of the first one and be prepared to have some fun. Really as I've not had the time to play these more than 3 or 4 times the fact remains if the developers were gutsy enough to actually create a religion in game and to pull the religion itself into corruption then they could have done anything. 2: Breath of Fire IV / Ryu, nuff said. Okay that's not enough to put it as my number 2 okay how about I add in the fact of a mind bending story that leaves one wishing that it hadn't ended so soon. Or I could mention the fact of the numerous mini games that are often not seen in a serious RPG like this. 1: Suikoden / A series that offers so many limitless choices of characters is boundless. This was probably the best series that I have yet to play the first of for lack of a playable copy. I will admit I was introduced to this series a little late and having only played Suikoden II + it can only be said I am in love with this series, sadly I will also admit it is the inspiration for my main project. [Extra Notes] Wind God Gau for those that have never heard of this is one of the simplest glitches to pull off in Final Fantasy VI, Gau already has the outstanding Battle Power but it can get stronger and stronger again. There are very few and almost no monsters in Final Fantasy VI with a wind resistance. Equiping Gau with a merit award and the tempest blade will pull out the power of god, use cat scratch rage (from stray cat) to always do a strong physical attack, with the Tempest blade rather than attacking he will use the effect of the blade to cast the rare wind magic almost every time he attacks. (Later ports do not allow this but it is still doable if you know how to get Gogo(I will not be telling how to get Gogo in here as this post is already to long.)) Psycho Cyan: This Final Fantasy VI glitch is not only cheep but also crazy, You can make Cyan keep attacking the enemies non stop till everything on the screen is dead, to do this use the #2 tech Dispatch then you will have to kill him (in one shot or he'll counter attack), after this resurrect him and attack. If he doesn't do it in your version there is still hope, after you resurrect him imp him and then attack your enemy Cyan will automatically counter every attack made including his own to attack the monsters until they are all dead. (Always knew he had mental issues, should have guessed as much in the Cyan Soul world.)

Suikoden II Okay just to start with I'm jealous, sadly I have the whole collection just my Suikoden I is in such bad shape it wouldn't play :cries:. I forgot all about Radiata Stories, I never got to finish it since a "friend" borrowed it and sold it. I definitely need to play Dragon Age but I can't seem to find the time. That picture made me want to play Suikoden IV for some reason.

Broken Messiah 20 Report post Posted December 25, 2010 Another cool thing in ffvi was the vanish/doom glitch. If you use vanish on a foe and then doom it will always kill them. that includes bosses too, except the last two.

CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted December 26, 2010 Oh snap! Here is my list! :33 1: Final Fantasy 6! The best RPG I have every played! Great characters, beautiful music, fantastic graphics for its time! Believable plot, a romantic relationship between a thief and a ex-general that is "daww!" inspiring, a perfect corrupt Empire that is willing to use innocent people to get what they want (Terra!), two twins with a horrible experience with the Empire (Empire poisoned their father!), all characters actually have a reason unlike other FF titles that basically only have the main and second main have stories or relationships that matter with the story! Oh, and let's not forget the humor, the fun, the sadness, the happiness and the greatness it bestows! 2: Final Fantasy 12. I absolutely adore this game. It....actually feels like an old FF title! I love it for its characters, story, battles, music, dialoug and romantic relationship between Balthier and Ashe & Vaan and Penelo (?)! 3: Final Fantasy 9. Come on! Have you've played it? Humorous and fun! I have just started and have fallen in love with this game. It has been years since I've had this much fun on a FF title! 4: Final Fantasy 5. The third best FF title I've played! :33 5: Secret of Mana. Another great game! 6: Super Mario RPG. Really fun! 7: Chrono Trigger. Another great game! I can't seem to beat the final boss though xD 8: Final Fantasy 10. Very good game! Sad, romantic...awesome! I know I had two spaces left, but I couldn't think of anything else to add. I was thinking Zelda, but its a different game series! There is your favorite list and then there is the list that HAS to include Zelda games! Its that simple! Zelda is too good of a game to not be on a list. If you get what I mean here xD Here is my Zelda list though: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (so sad! T.T) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past! The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess! The Legend of Zelda: GBC games!

I forgot how hard it was to finish with just bare minimals, turned around and did a completionist too and finished in about 6 hours. Still my favorite is TLOZ2 dunno why its just the most fun to me for some reason.

Decadenttia 2 Report post Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) 1. Suikoden 2 / Final Fantasy 7. I'm afraid I really can't choose between one of them. They are just simply great for me, each one in its own. 2. Suikoden 5. It isn't just a good game. It has enjoyable characters and great stories. And it made me cry (a lot!!). 3. Final Fantasy 8 I don't understand why so much spanish people consider this game as one of the final fantasy worsts. I really love it. I know is more to the same but I like it anyway. 4. Koudelka. I know, I know. It's not a real rpg. I know stages are beatufil but poorly empty. I know battles can be boring and repetitive. But medium characters are my weakness and Koudelka has a good story after all. And night of October 31th is always special. 5. Final fantasy 6. Because Ultros is great and he really loves opera. 6. Breath of Fire 3. Not just a great game.. it has one of the better fishing-minigames I've ever played!. 7. Wild Arms. Not my fav, but I enjoyed playing so very much. I always prefer 2D graphics. 8. Final Fantasy 4 I really didn't know what to think when I started playing this little jewel but I got very attached with it immediately.
