That's actually pretty good, though the outline colour shold stay consistent and if it were me the bugs wings would be tranparent but its good. You don't have to be right on the money when drawing characters, this is good. If you had kept the colour straing dark black it would have been very good. I use PS CS4 and I use the hexadecimal code 212121 for my black, it slightley greyer, but my art is kinda a more pastel type in colouring. I have decided to hire you as back up battler artist, can you do animals lake that? this with fur? Thats where I am lacking. Give it a go, remember to stay consistent and use the layers. What I said in the last post sounded a bit mean, what I was trying to say that at this time, artists are not a priority, I don't wnt 50 of them and I prefer Photoshop or SAI based works because I feel they look smoother and offer more flexibility. If you can show me another example using a pure black outline ( by which I mean 212121) and utilising some PS skills, I may let you join the group as a "Enemy Battler and Concept artist." Sorry Eco but as of this point your services are not really needed, and I don't want to hire you for fear that I might have you on my team but you will do nothing. As the game gets going a little I may need some backup but for now two artists are fine, I appreciate your offer to help though. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, being an art student I kinda tend to be over critical sometimes. If I offend you then please know I am sorry, and if you want you can PM me and we can discuss it in private.

Lately I have been posting on ten, count them, TEN different forums, looking for a composer and a scripter for my game. On every single one of them I have noticed that there is a significant thing pestering me, that is useless posts. I don't like posting a topic asking for a scripter, supplying and image of what I would like done to see if it is doable, and coming online the next day to see fifty posts about how good my art is. No. That is not what that forum is for, if you have comment on my art post in the right topic or send me a PM, what you posted has nothing to do with staying on topic and therefore is SPAM. I also don't like forums with chat boxes on them, because I ask a serious question and it just gets burried in a cascade of LOL, and OMG, and I eat joo, and so on. I just wanted to point of that it happens all the time and after six months I have still not gotten ANY help because people just post for the heck of it I think. What I want is a scripter and a composer, not a reviewer, comment on the project, comment on the art by all means but do it in the appropriate area and the appropriate manner.

I know, its sort of the feel I grew up with in my games, in fact the only game I have played thet did not have this system was Secret of Mana. It MAY be this one, but it may also be like the default system in RMXP, same style though.

While your input is greatly appreciated, I am not looking for an overload of artists, of things I am already comfortable with doing like writing. Right now my priorities are a spriter, a composer and a scripter. Sprites for characters and so on, composer for music, and aa scripter for the battle system and a few other systems. My goal is working towards a demo to be released possible at the end of the year, close to the date I started work on the game. Your assistance may be called for in the future, but for now it is not needed. Thankyou for taking the time to reply though, its pretty hard to find people when your site topic is overrun by spam, which ALWAYS happens to me.

First thing Ecowolf, you don't have to post over and over agin, there is an edit button which you can edit your posts with and change things if necessary. These are done in MS paint, correct? If so its not really the program I would use, since these were done a long time ago as you said then I would like to see some more recent work. If you have Photoshop or SAI, that would be better I think. Please provide me with your most recent peice of work, and please don't throw it together in a few minutes.
-
Yeh, I need a scripter to make it work though. Just a heads up it won't be an animated front view, the battlers will be stationary I think, with a pose for victory and such. This is just one of the things I have thought of for the game, many others minor additions. Yes, it is Hope Estiem, along side Vanille he is my fave character. Infact, I like all characters save Snow, he takes too long to die. That is his only skill; diverting all the damage to him so the others have time to act, and when he dies Vanille has to waste time rising him.

I am very supportive of my friends, something I don't really like such as excessive drinking. Plus they ridicule and put down people for things that have nothing to do with anything. Like my friend, his new boyfriend game to visit and afterward my parents and sister just discussed how gay he was, and even impersonated him. I went out with them on the weekend, it was great fun, but I even got poached for that.
-
Parents doing this is demeaning I thinl. I know alot of people that are gay, lesbian, or bi ( myself included) and I know alot of chinese people. My parents though make fun of the LGBT community and my mother does not like asians very much. I myself am usually a center of ridicule, but they are like unsults, things that seem like compliments but are usually insulting.

Once again, please reframe from posting comments here unless you are offering your services.

While comments like this are appreciated, please do not post them in this thread, you are most welcome to post them in the Project topic. This is for recruitment to working on the game, if you are offering your services that is another matter.

Why thankyou, my art style is very simple really. Looking at this image you can see the back and the front of Alora, one of the characters. in the game, she's the girl in my sig. I have some other referance images but the eyes are going to be changed to the ones in my sig. Another battle back and monster example. Could you perhaps give me a few examples of how you make tiles?
-
It not my character, its the angsty Hope Esthiem. No, they are not firing their lazers they are just big mouthed, they use it to omit sound to cause damage, notice they have no teeth or anything sharp. This is also going to be a game based partly off australia anyway, there is a part of the continent where you have to come into contact with something. But I want that to remain secret. :shifty:

@ Zane: Thankyou, and the reason I use VX is because I have a laptop with Vista on it, so XP doesn't work. @ Rated-RKO: Whoops, the map was originally a graveyard, guess I missed that one. @ Kiriashi: I have mack's tiles in another folder, for Forever I want to make my own content and going has been slow. I have a distinct style when it comes to tiles, think pokemon and thats basically it. So for now concepts and such are in the default set.

I knew this would happen, mixed responses, but its good. I only asked out of curiousity, but the more I think about it, the more I think about making a game, based off my own original story called Heart Shaped Locket, which has a cast of about 80% LGBT characters.
-
It's meant to sound cliche, its just an example of the process of making a character. I used a generic run of the mill character to give it form, no sense making a 100% original for people to steal, like posting a an as of yet uncompleted Forever NPC.

Well, not really, but I drew this art battle for kicks, it has an appearance by a certain white haired boy. My art style is very... cutesy. By the way, the icon under Nix is for the ATK Up state and the Icon below Alora is for SPI Up.

Waxing the bowstring is necessary for sustaining the life of bowstrings, wax protects them from the environment so they don't decay and last longer. Thankyou for you comment, the religion took a bit to make, there are many other religions too, in this game there are 2. The Order, which is a widespread religion kind of like Christianity, and then there is the Sun Faith, a religion much alike the one of Anicient Eqypt, thats Adrianna's religion, hence the heiroglypic on the title being made.

I know, it would be subtlty, nothing about the character would be sterotyped or such, but they would be openly gay and have a partner or something to the like.

Okay so I was sitting at my computer looking at movies on SBS and I relised shows that had same sex relationships in them. I also made not of my friend compared to the adults I knew and found that my friend were much more accepting of gays and lebians and bisexuals like myself. Not so sure about the transgender but I don't have anything to relate to on that. It got me thinking about games, and movies as well, and even books funnily enough. I read Stephen King books mostly, and in Cell one of the main characters was gay, in the recent book I read which was the Stand, Harold Lauder was accused of being gay which turned out to be ungrounded, but still. Then I looked at movies, things like Made of Honour, the bartender in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, and even Mrs Doubtfire with Aunt George. TV shows like Queer Eye, and Queer as Folk, even Gossip Girls and House, and Home and Away, and Glee, and United States of Tara. All of these included at least ONE same sex relationship or something heavily based on the idea of same sex relationships. And I discovered not one of the games I played had anything to do with it, except for closet cases like Vaan. So I propose this question to you. Would you ever make a game that had an openly gay character, openly gay relationship or a full cast of LGBT characters in it? Its a fiar enough question. Give me your views. I for one would, he world is changing.

"Ah, she'll be right." And various other slang words. Australia is very laid back.

@ Siverix - Hello there Mr Siverix. @ Arkbennett - Thankyou, and the sky is up. @ Rated-RKO - Thankyou, and I drink alot of tea, today I had 4 cups. I just noticed Issacsol, I remember him from a forum I was on YEARS ago called RPG Shadow Destiny.

Rook's Writing Tutorial #1 Character Development Correct character development and subsequent creation is an essential part of any good game, story, film, animation or anything to the like. Characters are the focus, and if they are bland and boring the chances of you getting recognised are significantly lost. For example, Final Fantasy 6's villain Kefka is engaging right from the start with his eccentric choice of dress, maniacal laughter and seemingly unsatiable thirst for destruction. Below, I have provided you with five tips for creating good characters. 1.) Basic Concept All good things start with just an idea. This idea can be as common as you want it to be, for we will expand on it and make it different later. And example of a basic concept is: a boy whose parents were killed by a masked man in front of him. This gives you four things, it gives you a character first and foremost, but it also gives you a character motive, a basic villain concept and a slight look at personality. Here I have listed some generic concepts for a Fight, Mage and a Villan. I will be using the Fighter thoughout this tutorial to give you a better understanding of the process. 2.) Fleshing it out. Now that we have a base we can build on it by asking questions about the character, these questions are not simple ones and require more than on word answers. A good first question to ask is "What is this characters motivation?" Motivation is what drive the character to do what they do, some want to defeat a certain person, others may want to become king, another simply to find some items. Motivation gives a basis for more advanced storyline questions, which will come later. Another good question to ask your characters is "What are this characters strengths and weaknesses?" Some characters may be strong warriors but lack the capabilities to lead, others may be someone with strong ties to the government but isn't high enough to change rules they think are wrong These strengths and weaknesses can be as numerous as you like, but a number above two for both is reccomended. One this is done, combined them to form a small paragraph description like so: Here I have given the Fighter the strengths of: - Connectiongs with wealthy citizens. - Attended a highly sucessful Swordsmanship Academy. The weaknesses of: - Parents killed so became an orphan. - Had to flee his home and school. And the motivation of: - Proving his worth to the king by completing and grievous challenge. This gives you a small character description. Remember, you can add as many strengths and weaknesses as you want, but the key is to have a balance. Making a character too strong or too weak will make them uninteresting, people like to have characters they feel can develop nicely. 3.) Name and Appearance. It is time to give your character a name and description, I leave the naming to this part because I feel matching names to character descriptions is a nice touch. I have decided to name the Fighter "Alexander," partially after Alexander the Great, if you want you may add a last name, I have chosen not to. Now that that is done, you may add a description of the character. NOTE: It is important NOT to have an image of the character drawn before you have the written description. This is because a strong base is needed, and writing is the base. Having an image first gives you a sterotype to stick to and so you lose that flare of creativity. Alexander is an orphan in the lower part of the city, but he was originally wealthy. Living in a lower socitey he may have had to give many of what little possessions he took from his home away, to pay for services, but he may have also kept some to remind him of better times. Therefore I have given him a deep red travel vest with slight gold thread trim and a plain white, cotton undershirt, his pants are leather, having being stolen after his others tore. On his feet are soft riding boot that he had to give two of his rings for. He has a brown leather belt and scabbard where he keeps an uninteresting iron shortsword, his hair is deep brown, almost black, and he has a small mustache for lack of shaving, but since he is only young the hairs are not too noticable of spread. around his neck on a common iron chain is a small glass orb pendant. His body shape is toned from vigourous academy training, but because of his age he lacks large muscles. Still, he would look good with his shirt off. I think you can see him in your mind now, Young and not so manly having to be a man on his own, his father wasn;t around to teach him things fathers usually teach like shaving and chopping wood and such, and he is at that awkward stage between boy and man. So now that you have the description, you can get the artist (or if your the artist, yourself) to make the images, if your happy with the description of course. 5.) Personality. An importance of a character is their personality. Are they stubborn? Clumsy? Mute? Can they juggle the resposibilities of leadership? Remain calm under pressure? All of these things are important to know. You can also add here a phobia, which can be a nice touch, if you make them have a fear of water they will try anything to avoid sea travel, and maybe water based enemies will do more damage. Personalities must be character specific and unique, having the same one will bore people. Here is my Fighter Alexander's persona. 5.) Final little things. After you have established motivation, asked all the tough questions, developed a description and given the character a name, the final step is to fill in all the small details and finalise. Details like height ans weight, and all things like that, can be ommitted as they are non-essential parts of the RPG. In describing your character, you can say that he or she is tall or short compared to other young teens, adults, elderly or what ever, if only to give the illustator more of an idea of how they look, so they can draw the character. Finalities such as place of birth, weapon used, RPG related skills like proficiency in strength and agility, and exact age are just some. You can of course fill out as much infomation as you want, but not all of it will be seen by the player, it has to be represented in characters appearance, personality and way of speaking. Here is Alexander, finished off with the finals, this is the last step. So have fun creating characters, I hope this helped you.

Recuitment: Project Infomation ~ I am looking for a few people to help me with my game thus far titled "Forever." It is an RPG I have been working on for six months now, with little progress made save writing and a few characters, battle backs, a window skin and some maps. It tells the story of four young adults charged with the task of defeating a sorceress and saving the world, which is a pretty cliche and common summary, but its not nearly as cliche as it sounds. The game is developed in RPG Maker VX. Recuitment: What I Would Like. ~ I would like, primarially, two things. A Composer to compose original tracks for the game, and a scripter to help me create custom content for the game which in some cases is minor edits and in others are whole new systems. Both of these will be custom made for the game and not for public use, unless I allow it. I am also looking for, in less urgent cases, a spriter to help me with tileset, icons and character sprites, and an artist to help me make drawings for the game, hopefully similar to my style of art which can be shown in this concept image. Thankyou.

Thankyou, I decided to post my project after all and put the link in my sig, click the girl and you'll get to it. Just a side note though Kiriashi, I have VX, so XP help is much appreciated by not needed. Thankyou for the offer though.
