use shades that are closer together/not as contrasted to make it look more natural.

The only bad thing about that is unless you are a spriter, you are going to have to pay someone to make the battle sprites for you.

"I am!" I shout loudly. I make magical energies start floating around before collecting in one spot and summoning a giant water elemental, "I hacked myself to level 100." -
Make an alternate version of the sprite with wings on it. Make a Common event set to Parallel Process, and make the switch turned on in the first map make a common event saying that the player is equipped with the wings then change graphic to winged character.
