PSP Adhoc over PS3 with Adhoc Party INTRO PSP games were originally made with internet(WiFi) and adhoc capabilities for multi-player gaming. Adhoc is a system used to connect two PSPs together (while in the same room/area). Some games were made only including an Adhoc feature, and thusly couldn't be played online. In 2009 Sony released a program on the Playstaiton Network called Adhoc Party. This program allows PSP users to play Adhoc based PSP games online using your PS3 and PSP together. The program has a built in voice and text chat function allowing your 'room' to communicate with each other as you play, providing a near mirrored experience to 'same room' play. SETUP Set PS3 to wired connection, and connect the PS3 to the internet. Download and install Adhoc Party on your PS3 via the Playstation Network(search all if can not find). Run Adhoc Party, and select 'Search for Game', and leave it scan as you complete the next steps.(Adhoc Party is considered a PS3 game.) Turn on your PSP, boot your game up, and turn on the Wlan button. In the game, activate 'multi-player mode' which will turn on the Adhoc function.(Each game is different, some are activated right away, some require you unlock a feature, some require you be in a certain place, research the game to find out how to play yours in Adhoc mode). Adhoc Party should now recognize your PSP and show the name of it(whatever you named your PSP) at the middle right below the Ad Hoc Check title, and explanation paragraph. Two options should appear at the bottom right of the screen. If you are going to join a game select 'Search' if you are going to host a game select 'Go To Main Menu'.(for this purpose you will host a game) After selecting 'Go To Main Menu' select the 'Start' option and once it has finished loading you can cycle through the different 'worlds' with 'R1' and 'L1' in an effort to select a destination to host your adhoc room. Select 'World J', then using the left analog stick hold it in any direction and spin it in a 360' circle. Notice the different white tiles stand out around the circle as you select them with your analog stick. Each of these is a Lobby for you to host a room from. Select any lobby with the 'X' button(once to see, again to confirm). You should now see a tiny white humanoid shaped avatar with your PSP name above it. Move your left analog stick to see the cursor, and bring it over your avatar and select it with the 'X' button. Select create room by hitting 'X' again. Next you are given the ability to setup your room (Room name, comment, password etc.). Name your room whatever you want. When your done select the 'Create [x] Player Room' button at the bottom. To have other players join your room have them complete steps 1-7 but on step 7 instead of selecting 'Go To Main Menu', have them select 'Search'. They should find your room and be able to join(make sure to tell them your World letter and Lobby number.) People wanting to join you can also(at step 7) use the 'Start' option(main menu), and search manually for your room. Lastly(at step 7), they can also select the 'Go To' option(main menu) and search their friends list to join your game, or search their history of past lobbies etc. Q&A Q. Will this work with my PS3 on a wireless connection? A. No, you must have your PS3 wired in order to use Adhoc Party. Q. Do I need the most up to date version of the PSP software. A. No. To the best of my knowledge it should work with any PSP that is able to play adhoc, period. Q. Does my PSP have to connect online in any way? A. No, your PSP is only emitting an adhoc signal and is online by proxy. Q. Do I have to follow each step every time I play a game. A. Yes. every time you turn the game off/start a new game(UMD) then you must redo each step in order to connect properly with no errors. Q. Are pirated PSPs able to play games multi-player with other pirated and legit PSPs using Adhoc Party? A. Yes. Q. After setup, does my game have to constantly generate an adhoc signal to remain in the room? A. No, after setup, you can freely go from 'offline' and 'online' mode in your game, remain in the room, and be able to re-partner up with the people in your room next time you are both 'online' in the game. (You must keep your WLAN switch on at all times) Q. Are the servers stable for Adhoc Party? A. You will run into connection issues from time to time(not often). Waiting 10 minutes and trying again(with both PS3 and PSP off) has fixed any problems every time. Q. Where can I find a list of PSP games with Adhoc capabilities? A. http://en.wikipedia...._Portable_games (organize table by Adhoc category) If you have any questions, please feel free to post here or message me personally. NOTE: I do not have any information regarding pirating software in any way shape or form.

Nice eventing tutorial, great stuff. Your topic thread has a typo, should be system, you forgot an 's'. Might get more hits with it fixed hehe, cheers!

I understand. Thank you for quickly addressing my concern. I assumed if it was a bug you must know, but I have my emails forwarded and sometimes they get nabbed as junk before I get them. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't on my end. Thanks again, keep up the good work!

Thanks mate, I appreciate your effort. I have been dying to update my project card for what feels like forever. Cheers~!

I don't seem to be getting my email notifications for threads I'm watching anymore. I have received no notifications for this thread, and only one for another I am following which has had two replies. It has been a few hours since last reply in the other thread, yet no notification(but received a notification for the reply a few hours before last one). I am sent notification instantly(should), so I don't think it is a delay.

I realize you are a busy person, and your website time is probably currently focused on the new theme upgrade, but I would like to re-request that this app be fixed. This is linked from the main page and lots want to use who come, but non can.

From a literary stand point, they are not the same. From a purely word defining stand point, yes fantasy does encompass science fiction, that goes without saying. We are not discussing the root definition of the words, but rather their definitions as they pertain to literary(media) categories. Both fantasy and science fiction are forms of speculative fiction. Since no one wants to clearly define what the definition of science fiction and fantasy are(as they pertain to literature, not the webster`s definition), I will take it upon myself to at least show the wiki definitions, which include parameters as to define each genre. Science Fiction Fantasy Before anyone freaks out about wikipedia, all the sentences are cited, and all references are reputable. With that said, I also suggest that everyone read up on hard science fiction, and soft science fiction, as these are far from new terms, and they help to further define science fiction. As frequent reader, these terms are not new to me, however wikipedia works as an excellent reference for others to become informed as well. In any event, use the above parameters to define what category a body of work falls under.

Agreed, that's because they keep using the same basic premise and they are getting better and determining what the audience wants as far as story pacing. Once Upon A Time is a story a bout(no spoilers) a fairy tale land that a queen curses and the land and all its characters get turned into our time people. They live in a town called storybrooke, and theyall don't know they were once characters from a far different land. That's more or less the trailers version of what the story is. Below is how they present the story to the viewers: (contains spoilers on fringe and once upon a time) It just seems to me that the writers only really have one good idea and they keep trying to jazz it up in different ways, and people are eating it up. Fringe is an excellent show, I definitely enjoy it. None the less, their creative direction seems lacking(similar) when compared to their other bodies of work.

When asking a question such as this it is best to clearly define each choice. Without doing that you are merely polling peoples opinions on the definitions of the choices, rather then how they think each show fits into the categories presented. In any event you said: That is basically not true, Midi-chlorians are a microorganism first mentioned in The Phantom Menace. They are microscopic life-forms that reside within the cells of all living things and communicate with the Force.[/url] The Jedi have learned how to listen to and coordinate the midi-chlorians. While every living being thus has a connection to the Force, one must have a high enough concentration of midi-chlorians in one's cells in order to be a Jedi or a Sith. Creator George Lucas says that the midi-chlorians are based on the endosymbiotic theory. You can not assume the force is 'magic' as there is at least one fictitious scientific fact that relates the use of the force to a measurable chemical compound, further more the writer based it off of real scientific theory. I am a trekkie, and prefer the Roddenberry verse over the Lucas verse, but in any event I enjoy both and am well informed on the two. As far as no science behind their technology, you need to read some star wars official books, or play some of their table top stuff. There is TONS of scientific explanation behind their technology. Star wars is definitely science fiction, it's simply more fiction than star trek and borrows from fantasy elements. It is my opinion that this discussion needs clear parameters defining exactly what the differences between Fantasy and Science Fiction are. My understanding is: Fantasy=nothing past basic tech, IE steampunk/gunpowder, and the use of magic (science without explanation). Science Fiction= draws from possibly realistic, or partially explained scientific plots and events. This third category 'Science Fantasy' is moot, because both categories are essentially a measure of technological advancement. If you have swords but no lasers, it's fantasy, if you have laser but no swords it's science fiction, if you have both swords and lasers(and even magic), it's still science fiction. Even if the science is so far convoluted and unbelievable, it's still science FICTION. The word fiction in the term 'science fiction' takes care of any arguement that the science isn't real enough, its a FICTION movie. Something is only magic until someone explains to you the science behind it, then it becomes fact.

The main plot you are hinting at was in fact the overall premise of the show the entire time, and it was pitched as that originally. The show is made by the lost writers, and if you watched lost until the end, and have watched or know about Once Upon A Time (their new show) then you start to see that the writers are a one trick pony.

Thanks, I enjoyed it for the most part.

Character Creation -Virtually no difference between male and female -Stat points are already spent, I was unable to allocate any, but their was a section that said (0 points remaining) -My stat points displayed the same regardless of which class I selected. -After creating my character I received a windows caution message stating "Character has been successfully created. You can now play First Star Online!." The message should be given through the launcher not windows, not sure if First Star Online is the correct name? Says Return to Gaurdia at the top. Sprites -Need work, the up and down sprites are shorter then the left and right walking sprite. -Chocobos, called Chocobos, change those(name and sprite), as they are from another license. -Slimes need a way to tell which direction they are facing. Maybe a transparent sword inside them, pointing towards front? -Wolf was attacking me from his side with no animation. Interactions -The two statues in Kalm near the north entrance/exit display two different score stats. Objects such as those should have a title above them when you cursor over them much like your characters name shows(trash cans, signs, mail box, anything interact-able, this way people hover over to check, and you can not put names on hidden/secret interactive things later on, like in dungeons for puzzles etc. -Upon using the slot machine I am greeted with a window. Then left confused, in trying to interact with the guilds window I noticed a lever on the left, so I clicked it, it ran the slot machine. There is a 5G indicator at the bottom, but I fail to see where my money is, how am I to know if I should play if I am trying to save currency. When I click the button it goes from silence to a weird noisy slot machine SFX, I think you can find a better SFX, one without the ambient crowd in the back ground. Won once, lost once, the display message in the chat window should tell you how much you won, the screen should display your current gold while you play the slots, and the lever should visually say PULL ME, on the round part or the bar of the lever. -Blue potions restore life, and Red restores mana? Why? This is extra confusign for no reason, if you want to be different, pick different colors. Display -The who's Online and Friends windows stay on top of every other window, they should go behind like the main game window since they are magnet attached to the left side anyhow. -Kalm is the name of a village in FF7, pick something original. -The slot machine in the Inn in Kalm displays a secondary window behind it that reads 'Guilds' at the top, the window is only partially visible and appears to not supposed to be present. -The shapes of the insides of the all the house are not even remotely the same to the shapes of the outsides of the houses. -The bank looks like a tavern/bar, there are tables and chairs, and a fountain in the middle. Doesn't look right at all. I suggest splitting it into two sides, left and right. One side for bank, and vault stuff,(have two vendors, vault vendor with dialogue). Then on the other side have a guild counter, and put the mail box on that side as well. I also suggest doubling up on the mailboxes and vault containers to eat up more space, even if not needed, seems more realistic. -There are two sprites name Stephie, one in the Inn, and one outside the Culinary Guild Sound -The game is dead silent, no music at all. This is definitely an issue. -Some menus use SFX for clicking options some don't, this should be fluent. -In heaven(the place the beam of light brought me to regen my HP I assume) the sound effect for the regen sounds weird, make it more high pitched. Combat -From a stand still, when I move in any direction other than the one I am currently facing I should stay on the same square, then move if I press/hold that direction. In other words, if I am facing left, and there is a slime in the next square to my right, when I hit right, I shouldn't walk into him, I should turn so I can attack rather then move through. -Monsters should be solid objects to the player character. -Seems like the monsters can attack you from any direction, they should only be able to attack from their 'front' then if you get more challenging monsters, allow them to attack from the side/back with different animations as the attack from the front animation. Likes -How each map is labeled at the bottom of the display window/above the chat window. -The cut out roof effect when inside houses. -Choice of NPC names, other than repeats. -Crafting/repairing system seems neat. Dislikes -The game was obviously called First Star at one point and was renamed, or maybe the company is first star? But I see the name appear randomly from time to time, this needs stream lining, or explanation. -Lack of direction/reason to play. -It appeared I had to grind on slimes to level up to be strong enough to fight the wolves, because they would near kill me before they were dead. Suggestions for Addition -Music, and ambient sound, so crowd sound in tavern over town music, but bird sounds when outside over same town music etc. -Quest system, something really simple, and linear. So I go into the quest menu and it would just be a series of bullet points with sentences like "The ghost by the graveyard said a dwarf in the west woods would make me a key so I can get his hat and avenge him" -Story, again can be simple, I suggest having an intro story told by an elder of the town of Kalm, it can be merely text that scrolls up across the screen right before you play for the first time. If you want to get really fancy find a voice actor, and get them to read the intro. something like "Monsters in the area have been at an all time high, not knowing what to do, I was about to task our village's finest hunters to help. That's when strangers skilled in combat began to appear from the north woods. Having no memory of their past, each one was eager to help with solving the mysteries surrounding our small town." -Definitely lacking a tutorial that explains how stuff works. I did however pick up most of what I needed by reading all the signs and talking to everyone, but since it's an mmo, couldn't you just make a youtube video that explains the simple and finer points of your game, and have it displayed right before the intro? Video would need to be short, a few minutes in length. -More sprites for character creation, and if possible better customization, skin, then hair, then outfit would be ideal, so three layers upon character creation. My sprites head was too small on the walking up graphic, his head appeared to shrink when I turned up. -Need better monster scaling, the wolves seem way harder than the slimes. Need to keep the exact same difficulty of monster for the first 3 or 4 monster introductions, but change their skins, and their attacks, but not their strengths or hp. This makes people feel like they are progressing but in theory are fighting reskinned slimes, with different attacks. Rather then a whole new monster with different stats. Opinion All in all, I really like this, it reminds me a lot of the original legend of zelda, but with slightly more direction. I don't think I would play this again (if I was playing by choice), as the combat system needs work, combined with the lack of story, no quest log, and improper monster scaling. In my opinion this game is still in Alpha stage. I was reluctant to suggest anything, as I think that the combat system, SFX, and other minor errors should be fixed before adding anything at all to the game.

I was reading a thread today about Occupy Wallstreet, I thought this may be a bit off topic, but did in fact relate. The thread talks about taxing profits from corporations in an effort to gather more income for the country and redistribute wealth in the USA. I definitely agree with this, however, I do not agree with that curing North Americas financial crisis. To me that sounds like a band aid solution, to an ever growing problem. I am a minimalist, I spend as little money as possible, and own as few things as possible. With that said I still have all our basic needs as we may consider them, housing, food, heat/water/eletricity. I also have the basic entertainment needs as well, TV/Computer, internet/cable, video games, and I enjoy a night out from time to time. With that said, I am poor, specifically working poor. I qualify for all tax breaks, as well as social assistance(monthly government money, which I do not apply for by choice). I do not own a car by choice but do have my license, a vehicle however would most likely be the end of my extra cash. In any event, I by far do not consider myself poor, I have more than enough money to live and be happy and have all the things I want and need. I don't need a boat, or a plane, or a cottage, I am saving for a home however as I currently rent (since a proper home is an investment). I am more than happy with a simple standard life working as a recycling and waste management specialist(12$/hr). The point of all this is, at my work I often remove appliances from peoples homes, very frequently people say things like "Oh, the dryer works perfectly, just the washer broke and we were getting a new one, so why not get a new dryer too...." only to finish it with "...so they match.". REALLY? First off, we remove the appliances for free, so she didn't get any money for it, nor did she pay to have it removed. Secondly the appliances we pick up, are stripped of their various differing pieces and each category is recycled accordingly. Take a guess what the metal (majority of the contents) is used for, you bet ya, washing machines and dryers! But wait it gets better, it's not like it's re-purposed, nope, it's crushed using a massive high powered diesel beast of a machine, then melted, shaped formed, cased and reused for something else, that someone else will throw away when it still works good. People are constantly throwing away perfectly good 'products' and things they no longer want, but can not find a place/person/use for them. I'll list a few more, BBQs(people throw away their old working one, for a new shiny metal built in one), Exercise equipment (I could have built 40 gyms in working equipment by now), Bicycles(no kid wants a used bike for their first bike, then they grow out of them), Excess building materials (yup, no joke, job sites often leave materials behind that no one needs or knows how to use, and we have to remove and recycle them), there are many many more examples. We do our very best to try and find homes for the stuff we get that is still in working condition if not brand new (as we often get brand new stuff people leave behind), but it's hard because of the volume in which we receive it, as well as the cost to store it. Let's broaden our view a moment, picture how many times metal is picked up, shipped, recycled, crafted, shipped, pickeup/kept, only to be given away (while working) to be 'recycled'. All recycling is, is breaking down the object into usable pieces, often times the act of recycling costs MORE resources to reform the material rather then reuse it as is. This is the society we live in(NA), people buy things they don't really need/want on impulse, or because social stigma tells them to. If you like boating, buy a boat, but don't buy one because all the neighbors have one. That boat then sits in your driveway until the weather rots it out, and it's no longer good, and all the resources used to make it need to be recycles, at the cost of more resources! How does this relate to the recent financial crisis? Directly. To think how many times a working washing machine is turned into a working washing machine, only to be turned into a working washing machine, sickens me. Imagine the resources wasted in transporting, and creating that thing so many times. Yes the object in question is used, but it's thrown away before broken, at the cost of more resources. But this is how we think, this is how we act, people throw garbage out their window and laugh "I am making jobs", they buy unnecessary appliances to replace working ones, they buy McDonalds 6 times a week, then complain they are fat. As a society (at least in North America) we clearly do not see the consequences of our actions before taking them. This and this alone is the reason our economy is so weak, we do not value what we have, nor will we until it is gone. We waste at every opportunity, and for every 1 person trying to do the right thing(like my self, and others), by reducing and reusing more than recycling, there are 10 people throwing fast food wrappers out their diesel truck window as it idles while they wait for their significant other to get back with more fast food, so they can return home with their matching washer and dryer.

I am interested in trying this. Would you be able to edit your first post and add a link to the games official download page? Thanks.

Nice. I have been listening to music when I work for years now, many people do the same. Music affecting concentration has long been studied before, and is by far not new. Music will generally help people who have problems concentrating, but help to lose the concentration of those who are normally on task. This is the way I look at it. Most if not all can have two thoughts at one time, a doing and a thinking, example is juggling while doing math(in your head). People who have problems concentrating generally have their thinking thought wander. As I study/work I often find my mind wandering, I am still 'on task' as I am thinking: "move this here, then organize this, ok now take this apart". But at the same time I am thinking: "ok when I get home I need to do my laundry, clean the kitchen cook dinner, etc." it's the difference between your conscious thoughts and subconscious thoughts. As your preform more repetitive/boring tasks, this is when your mind will wander, either conscious or subconscious, an example of this is smokers who light a cigarette while doing something without even realizing it, or the guy who drops what he is dong half way through to start another task, only later to realize he didn't finish the first one. Listening to music however eliminates my conscious/subconscious thoughts accordingly, as I swap back and forth using which ever is needed for the task ahead. I find the music focuses you on something as you use your subconscious, and distracts you enough as you use your conscious mind. As most students don't care for their studies, music will help to not only bring an enjoyable experience to what they are doing, but it will also help focus their minds, as most younger students minds are working 'a mile a minute' as they say. If your brain is going a mile a minute, and you only have a 1/2 mile of road, you need to find some more road for your brain, ie music helps fill that gap. This kind of touches on the slacker turns out to be gifted scenario. Often times parents and teachers will mistakes a child's low concentration or lack of interest for generally low intelligence, but in many occasions it turns out these students were simply not getting enough stimuli. Things like this have lead to alternate means of learning/teaching, ie with music/songs to help people learn/concentrate and ultimately retain the information (which is of course the goal). I have actually put a great deal of thought into this before, so I was glad to see this topic.

I definitely like it. I trust your creative direction, please feel free to use your best judgement, as I am very pleased with your work. Thanks again mate.

What if the fan game turns out better than the official? As an investor wouldn't you want it taken down? When I mentioned potential profit, that pretty much covers every other reason mentioned. If you are generating millions of people worth of traffic for your fan project, that would mean those people are potentially not visiting the official one. You are in theory stealing 'buzz' from the original work. So even if your work is free, if it generates more traffic then the original work and people(customers) are there doing that for free, then they are not spending money on the official. This is how it would most likely be viewed in court.

Excellent, exactly what I pictured. Totally perfect mate, I am extremely excited to see the rest. It's really neat to see someone else create something you envision, kudos.

I would like to donate 636 Deviant Art Points(enough for a 3 month subscription) To the First Runner-up, but only the first one. I assume it's supposed to say 2nd and 3rd hehe.
