  1. Agreed, I make sure to be active on all major social networking sites, and some minor ones. Eventually someone will become a dire hard fan of your game and feel the desire to create a wiki lol. My game has no demo available yet, although I would be willing to trade in the future. It will still be until around July or August before I have a real demo, another month at least before alphas. I appreciate the offer though hehe, definitely in the future.
  2. I have seriously considered this, and am a member of many wikis. It is generally considered bad form to add any information on any wiki topic in which you are official a part of. In other words, you should not be posting information regarding your game, it should be posted by some one else, ideally a fan. People will tend to question the validity of what you posted, is it one sided? Is it true even? This is why wiki and wikia information are generally added by third parties regarding topics. I think the general consensus among wiki contributors is that if something is note worthy enough then it wont need discussing before a page is created, a page will simply be created before anyone can talk about it. Then since its popular the fan base for that thing will ensure the information is true and unbiased. This is of course all in theory and what I believe the wiki community believes. This may just be my opinions but should be something to be aware of if considering creating a page about something you are affiliated with officially. With that said, I would be more then interested in going over someones project/game and helping them compile information about it for a wiki as a third part point of view. They of course would have to be willing to do the same with my own project. This would ensure that both projects are more unbiased then if written by anyone directly involved. Although I believe this may even still be considered shifty by some of the more die hard wiki contributors.
  3. I used to have an excellent link to all kinds of free stock music and sound effects, but I can not seem to find it. In the mean time, I do have a few suggestions. Hit Google, and try searching with something along the lines of 'Free open source stock music/sfx' http://www.audiomicro.com/ I did that and found the above site that allowed me to log in with my twitter or facebook account, I choose my secondary twitter to test it out, worked perfectly and downloaded an excellent harp sfx titled 'harp 1' This link is the instrument section http://www.audiomicro.com/free-sound-effects/free-musical-instrument-and-sound-effects There are many other sites that operate the same way, just make sure to search for, free and open source, stock is good too. That way you will generally find music that has rights that only require you to mention the site/name of user who added the music file. Hope that helps, cheers.
  4. From the stand point referenced in this post, the creation process includes, pretty much anything graphically needed. We currently do not have a graphic designer so if interested, the winner would be able to join the team and shape the graphic design aspects of the project. There are not that many demands for graphics, examples are: Banner, Forum Icon, Teaser Art, and anything else they feel like creating. There is also a need for 13 individual pictures that will be used to represent each chapter of the story. It is still undecided as to whether they will be commissioned, or done in a similar fashion of contest. If desired the winner may do these as well, however that is quite a few more pictures then just a banner and forum icon, ha ha. With that said, we are recruiting for the project, and anyone wanting to help is welcome to join. -Cheers, Thanks for the interest Jon Bon
  5. No problem! I have been tinkering with your same idea in my head for a while now, I am glad to see it will work. You helped me finalize my thoughts on it ha ha. Cheers.
  6. It is not located there. You will need to use it as a separate command, most likely in your parallel process event. Possibly use it right after your wait, add a 1 second wait and put the commands(1 for each npc event) between the last waits.
  7. I believe what you need to do is put the command 'Set Event Location' it is on page two of event commands. By using that command and putting it before your walk pattern starts or is called to start, you should be able to return each event back to its desired location. This way when the same number is called the event can be returned to its original starting location. Is this what you were looking for? *EDITE* beat me by my spell check haha
  8. The following blog talks about the map item(s), the run/sprinting, enemy encounter items, and escaping dungeon items. Over the weekend we were able to finalize how multiple game features work. The following features are completed in their entirety and have been on hold until now. They will be added to the website once a write up for each one is completed. Maps All dungeons will have a map that can be found inside the dungeon itself. After acquiring the map the player may press the assigned button to bring the map up at any time while not in combat or in the menu screen. The map will then stay up until the same button is pressed, allowing the player to search while the map is up and visible. While the map is active, the entire screen is encompassed by it, and the player is displayed by an icon that moves in real time as the player does. Running/Sprinting While inside some dungeons and cities, the player will be able to press the assigned button on the controller to activate the sprint function. Then press the same button to return their speed back to normal. Sprinting will become important during time based challenges, and will be a hindrance when encountering damage terrain. The world map will have sprinting disabled. Enemy Encounters Because experience is not gained in the traditional way, the player will be given the opportunity to buy items that 'repel' enemies(random encounters). The item will fade once X amount of steps are reached after item is used. The steps vary based on item tier. Dungeon Escaping Players will be able to buy a 'Wayfinder's Stick' and use the item to be ported to the beginning of most dungeons. This item was added to allow players quick exit when returning to dungeons to explore, or when they have bit off more then they can chew. Future Mechanics There are still a few game mechanics and features still needing to be added. These will be mentioned here, and added as completed.
  9. Nice thanks for the suggestions. I really like repulse but find it more science fiction then fantasy(imo). Then I started thinking maybe like a repulsing stone or warding stone. Let's say, a rock that stays carefully covered until needed, then is unwrapped and cracked to emit an odor no enemy would go near. I know a rock that smells is weird, but I like the idea lol. Alternately maybe a mushroom or flower. The more I think about it the more I like the rock idea. I dunno, sometimes it helps to 'think out loud' hehe.
  10. Hey all, I am trying to name an item that works the same as a repel in the Pokemon RPG series. When used it turns off random encounters until X steps are taken. I looked up some synonyms for the word repel but nothing suited me. The name has to suit a fantasy style game, and is preferred to be one word. However it could be a draught, potion, herb, tincture, tonic, etc. also use of 'of the' or 'The' is acceptable too. If anyone has any ideas on a good name suggestions would be much appreciated. The person whose word is chosen to be included in the game will be credited in the appropriate section. Thanks all, -Cheers Jon Bon.
  11. Introduction Bon Ink Creations is currently having two contests to help involve the fan community and add their created art and writing to Merlin The RPG. The winner of both projects will be properly credited in all displayed credits as well as receive the prizes unique to each contest. Writing Contest The writing contest is for the creation of one character and their home town. The reward is the inclusion of your idea in the game, and the possibility for a spin off side game should you desire. For more specifics please visit this link-> Keep the Magic Secret RPG Forum Drawing/Rendering Contest Through DeviantArt(DA) we are having a contest for the creation of our title screen image, and the picture used to represent a digital game case cover art. The reward is 400(DA) Points and the recognition of having your art displayed everywhere the game is. The winner will also be given an opportunity to join the team in the creation process if wanted. For more specifics please visit this link-> DeviantArt Forum Contest Post If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to post here or contact us at MerlinTheRPG@hotmail.com
  12. Today marks the launch of our first two contests for user submitted content to be added to the game. First is the title screen art contest, launched through DeviantArt(DA) with a 400 DA point reward. Second is the writing contest, to create a character and home town in the style of the Arthurian legend. Both contests can be found here though this link Contests. If you wish you may also check us out at DeviantArt and post your drawn submissions there, as well as the many other fan sites we frequent. Links available on the front of the >homepage< Thanks all for read, and taking part. Things are going great, we are slowly building a nice fan base, and the creation process is coming along nicely. We hope to have some updates on built maps and finished sprites by some time next week or into next weekend. Hope everyone is having a great long weekend for those it applies to. Cheers -Jon Bon
  13. Definitely impressive, from what I read. I can not wait to try this out when I have more time. ~Good Karma~ to you and your team mate, good on you all. Cheers.
  14. This blog includes information on contests, website activity, fan base. So we got a great result in the number of people to visit the Merlin The RPG website. The weekend ended with 141 unique visits combined between Saturday and Sunday with 17 people filling out the interest Survey. This is an excellent start to show future interest, as well as excellent motivation for progress progression. A method is in the works to allow people to show that they support the game. We are also in the process of creating a contest for user submitted content. Possibly a fan made character, town, and some art, all in separate contests. I have been working on the tileset for the labyrinth of Gedref, and it should be done by the weekend and mapping can commence.
  15. I think you should add a few more version numbers at the end of your Alpha. I am pretty sure you up dated it since you replied to my post, and although you only made a minor change(starting location). I believe you should have changed the presented version number. This way I would be 100% certain that it is in fact an updated version of some kind. My suggestion is develop your own format or google version formats. You currently have V1.0 I personally would have it be V 1.000.000 Then when you make minor updates, you can work with the last numbers and major updates(maps, new story etc.) can be the first decimal numbers. If you develop a format that is easy for you to remember it wont be hard to keep your version number updates. Ultimately you can just add a whole bunch of place holders, and just up it by the smallest when small content, and maybe a 10s or 100s column for larger content. I think this would make it easier for people to constantly Alpha for your project. *EDIT* My rule of thumb, is new version number every time I back my project up, and every time it goes live/gets tested/traded/handed off etc.
  16. Im designing a hedge maze tileset based on an auto tile and hedge wall I made and some RTP flora. Does anyone know if any existing hedge maze tile sets?

I have this account, then the team has an account for the game itself. All posts through that account are official and edited etc. Posts through me are less formal and involve the creation of the game, as well as my personal opinions etc. I wanted to separate myself from the game, as I am not the only one involved in the creation process.

I posted the recruitment post however because I in fact am doing the recruiting and organizing as the project lead.

  18. I officially launched Merlin The RPG as a live project today. I advertised on many Merlin fan sites, and posted the official game description and recruitment page on RMXPU. With all the advertising and networking out of the way for the most part I look forward to resuming production as usual next week. For a better idea on exactly what is left to be created for all resources to be done for Book/Game 1 you may visit this link for a series of checklists, which better detail progression. We have already had great feedback via the official site and it has hit its most active unique visitors in one day today at 27 and counting last count, not a huge number, but really nice to see, with the previous highest being 21 and the lowest 4 and the average unique visit rate being around 14(until now). keeping in mind that the official site has been up for 1 week today. I would like to thank all who are reading this and checking it out, I welcome any and all opinions and suggestions. -Jon Bon
  19. --->OFFICIAL PAGE<--- Introduction Hello everyone, I am Jonathon Stuart Bon(Jon Bon) CEO of Bon Ink Creations and Project Lead for Merlin the RPG. I just want to start off by thanking all who are reading this (thanks) and next I want to talk briefly about the game. For the full game write up click here. Merlin the RPG is a fan project inspired by the British Broadcasting Channel(BBC) television show, Merlin a.k.a. Adventures of Merlin and of course the Arthurian legend itself. The creation process is in two stages. First is to create a Merlin Kit for use by anyone with rpg maker xp to make their own rpgs with the characters of Merlin. Second to create Chapters 1, 2 and 3 and then release the Merlin Kit at the same time as the chapters. There are a few odds and ends that will need to be done by outside talent. Generally speaking there are a minimum of three positions needed, 1 graphic designing, 1 spriting and 1 scripting. However should the person for each spot not be able to achieve each demand, more people will be recruited as needed. The ideal candidate is someone who is a fan of Merlin or the Arthurian legend itself and is excited about working on the project. This is an excellent opportunity for talented people in this field to get their work out there and noticed and work on a project that will see completion. Job Specifics The first focus will be to complete the Merlin The RPG Kit and then use that kit to make the first three chapters of the game. Once the first three chapters are made, they can be released one at a time while the rest of the project is worked on. At the same time the Merlin the RPG Kit can be released. The kit will only include, character sprites, classes, move sets and graphics, items and equipment, maps with minor eventing, music, title screens, and game over screen. This is a free project. With that said, Bon Ink Creations is willing to pay for high end material or the services of someone in general who is skilled and dedicated to the job. There will be an overall project deadline and an individual work deadline for work assigned. This deadline will be negotiated between the worker and myself. Aside from work Bon Ink can not complete, there are many tasks that can be assigned for people who wish to get on board. If you feel you want to participate in this project we can find something for you to do, do not hesitate to post a reply. Examples of work needed are given below. Graphic Designer A person/People is/are needed who can draw/design: -Single frame pictures of the main (some secondary) characters and main enemies, from sprite and real life photo references. -A banner, logo, and title screen for the project. -Custom Merlin window skin Scripter The main need for a scripter is broken down into two parts, so in theory it could be done by more then one scripter. Script Search & Compatibility Checking The real need here is to be able to tell if the desired scripts are compatible with the Sideview Battle System script. Custom Menus If a script exists that you know of that may cover the need listed below, then please post a link or as much information as you have regarding the script. Spriter This is probably the most hefty of all the jobs needed. However there will be very little work created from nothing if any at all. Most work will have reference pictures from the television show, and all sprites will be able to be made in part by looseleaf(the website used to make the sprite look for this game). Sprites will be used rather then battlers for battle scenes. Therefore there will be no need for battlers for any of the sprites created. |Below is a list of everything currently needed to complete the kit The Great Dragon The Black Knight Four sprite themes are required for this character, however you have a model to work from. Dog Statue 2 sprites are needed for this. One as just a dog statue, and one as the live dog after being animated from a statue. Cockatrice Two sprites are needed for this monster. I think I may have seen something similar if not exact to this in the past, but have not been able to relocate it. Questing Beast Two sprites are needed for this creature. Pixel Work The following are small pieces or edits that need to be made. Credits Full credit will be given to anyone who creates or suggests anything of notability for this project by name in the appropriate credits sections on the Merlin The RPG website, and in game credits. If you continuously help out with the project you will be credited with a title or unique credit header, if you help out in small bits or once you will be credited in the appropriate section, IE Thanks, Community Help, Extra Scripters/Spriters etc. Should a group or company wish to lend aid, we are entirely open to putting your tag/logo at the beginning of the game for recognition on work done. We are also open to partnering with another group or organization if they desire to share the project in its entirety or as a part. How To Get Involved If you want to help out at your own pace, then feel free to work from any of the references given above, or to contact me about more references if needed or extra input etc. I would ask that if you are going to attempt any of the stuff I need created please post here first saying you will be attempting it, so others do not attempt without knowing they are not the only one. If you wish to join the team making the game then please use the form below as a guide line or just post and let us know a bit about yourself and what you have done etc, a link of your work is strongly suggested if your work is not easily searched via RMXPU or google. Name: (your name) Preferred Contact Method: (MSN,Email,VOIP, etc.) Position: (Graphic Designer/Spriter/Scripter) Commission or Free or Pay: (Per piece/No pay/Flat fee at project end) Portfolio link(s): (yourportfoliolink.com) Company Website: (companyname.com) Project Link: (myproject.com)
  20. --->OFFICIAL PAGE<--- Back Story: Camelot Kingdom was once a place where magic had no law, and criminals ran ramped doing as they pleased. Lord Uther, and other Nobles of the country, rallied together and drove those of evil magic from the realm mired in chaos. The citizens of Camelot in turn made Uther their king and protector. The new king ruled the land well and those of magic and non-magic lived peacefully together. King Uther eventually fell in love with and married a women named Ygraine de Bois. It wasn't until the new queen became pregnant and gave birth, that the trouble truly began. Becoming gravely ill while nearing the end of her pregnancy, Ygraine looked as though she may not make it through more then a few nights. Uther quickly sought council of the most powerful sorcerers he could find. One sorceress offered up a cure and Uther agreed. Shortly afterwards, the queen regained her health and gave birth to the new prince. All was well for near to a day when the queen quickly fell back into a state of poor health and passed away through the night. Having now lost his wife and the queen to his kingdom, Uther blamed magic for his loss. Anything or anyone affiliated with magic was removed forcefully from the Kingdom of Camelot, by law of the king. He even had the last known dragon, and ancient protector of the land, captured and chained deep under the castle. Overnight the once harmonious magic country of Camelot was turned into a place where even mention of the word may get you imprisoned. Uther now hated magic with every fiber of his being, and all magic users would be hunted down as long as he was king. This time was known as the great purge. Story: The Kingdom of Camelot has been free of magic for 20 years and anyone now caught practicing magic is publicly sentenced to death as an example. Although Uther keeps a tight reign on his kingdom, the number of magic related crimes has been increasing and he has had to double his efforts to stop it. For fear of losing his son Arthur, Uther is becoming too harsh with his punishment for those even suspected of using magic. On the outskirts of the Kingdom of Cenred, near Camelot's eastern border, lies the farm town of Ealdor. In the time of the great purge many sorcerers fled Camelot, one of which settled here. It was this sorcerer who before being found and having to forcefully leave the village, fathered a very important boy. This boy, soon to be man, is named Merlin. The boy's mother is sending him to live in Camelot City for fear that his unique abilities will get noticed in such a small village. Merlin is sent to live with a family friend named Gaius who will be good guidance for the fatherless boy. Gaius, a once powerful sorcerer, will now act as Merlin's mentor and father in his final stages of adolescence. Uniquely born with the power of magic, Merlin has a destiny he cannot avoid. He must protect Arthur and keep him safe from all danger, magic and non-magic alike. At the same time he is destined to bring magic back to the land of Camelot. Reluctant at first, Merlin eventually accepts his destiny and becomes Arthur's man servant in an effort to better watch over him. With any luck, Merlin's carefree and "Do the right thing" attitude will rub off on the prat of a prince. Main Cast: Merlin Child of prophecy, Merlin has the ability to use magic with no study since his birth. Born in the farming village Ealdor, of the kingdom Cenred, and knowing very little of his father, Merlin grew up alone with his mother. Fearfull his gift would be found out living in such a small village, his mother sent him to live in Camelot City in the Kingdom of Camelot. Merlin's adventures truely begin as he lives with Gauis, the ex-Sorcerer now Court Physician, in Camelot castle. Gauis Formerly a powerful and wise sorcerer, now Court Physician, Gauis serves his King Uther as loyaly now as he did back in the days where magic was common place in Camelot. Gauis now serves as a secret tutor, and part time father to Merlin, as he finds his destiny. Although Gauis is well versed in magic, he refuses to use it under even the most dire of circumstances, as is law in camelot. Uther King of Camelot, he became king when he came to the land and freed it of its plague of magic. Since then, magic has been outlawed in all of Camelot, punishable by death. Although Uther once fought along side those of magic, he will now not hesitate to execute anyone involved with magic. Fearful for the life of his son Arthur and ward Morgana, Uther rules Camelot with an iron fist. Arthur Prince of Camelot, Arthur has grown up privileged his entire life. The best food, the best schooling, the best fighting, he has it all. As a member of one of the Camelot Knights, Arthur leads with honor and grace, and is said to wed the Lady Morgana, Uthers Ward, when he is of age. Morgana Lady Morgana is Uthers Ward, the daughter of a great house now fallen. Uther took her in when her father, a good friend, passed away. Morgana suffers from severe headaches and nightmares and is often treated with herbs and tinctures from Gauis, although to little effect. She is also often comforted by her best friend and maiden, Guinevere, who most affectionately call Gwen. Guinevere Daughter of the Upper Quarter blacksmith, Gwen has been a hand maiden her entire working life. She is lucky to serve only the Lady Morgana with whom she has become friends over the years. Gwen is compassionate and kind, and wishes Prince Arthur would share those qualities if he is to become king. Game Mechanics Screenshots The following screenshots were made as a staging to show the feel and look of the game. Only maps that were complete were used, however a number of RTP characters were used for filler. Release Team Recruiting* The game is being made by a small group of Bon Ink Creations staff, however parts of the game will need to be done by outside talent. Bon Ink Creations will be recruiting for either part time or full time positions for a game making team based on the availability of applicants. The intent is to finish this project then work together to present each others on going projects and pick one to complete as a team and release as a commercial for sale product. This is an excellent opportunity for other talented people in specific fields to join a team and get some work released to the public. *Specifics available here. 21. Sounds great man, that is something I could see myself playing. One thing I think that would be cool is if at certain points you had to solo play as the thief style character to unlock gates, shut off gas pipes, lower/raise water etc. He could move at a faster pace then the rest and it in itself would be a mini game of sorts. He could have to avoid time based traps etc as he goes through the small area to reach his switch. Then return to the team to progress through the now open area. Just a suggestion, but it seems like it would be fun and another element to the game. Of course just a suggestion as I have no idea how hard it would be for you to implement with your current script system. Cheers man, I look forward to seeing more on this. -Jon Bon
  22. My humble opinions are that, based on the purpose and type of community site this is that the download manager and clubs/project components would be the most crucial to what people who come here will want to do, with the tileset maker a very close third. One thing I wanted to suggest though/find out if its possible, was the ability to link a forum post to the 'current project' section of my profile, so when people are looking at things I've(and others) have posted they can easily click the current project listed and be linked to a forum post about it on RMXPU. Along the same lines, it would also be nice to be able to link the 'services' section to a forum post as well. So people who offer services can actually link them from their profile info to a forum post they created about the services they offer. This would allow people to easily check out what others are up to and what services they offer, it would also play well into the clubs component idea, allowing you to link to a club from the mini profile info displayed on forum posts. -Jon Bon
  23. I love what you have so far, the robotic theme seems to be working really well. I read this thread the other day and since I am new here I did not have any input. However I started thinking what a good idea it would be to have a community project. Something the entire RMXPU community collaborates on, lead by one or many of the staff. I thought about proposing this idea, but it would obviously need a project lead to start, and for fear of being suggested as the lead itself and the idea fading away unless I took the role I did not suggest it due to my lack of free time. Then I got to thinking about the mascot and it hit me. Why not have this mascot be the basis for an RMXPU game? It wouldnt have to be an RPG, it could really be any type of game on any of the platforms this site supports, although in my humble opinion I think an RPG on RMXP would be the best start. You could always make that character have a multitude of game types released in the future IE platformer, action, etc. From looking around the site I have seen what seem to be truly talented people with dedication and the strive to help others. That is the reason why I choose this site as my community for RMXP. I genuinely think this would be a great opportunity for the community here to work together on a project that in essence will advertise the website and the community as a whole. I read the 'April fools' thread and it had mentioned that although it was a joke post the stats of the declination of activity on the site were in fact true. I believe that creating a game made by this site would be an excellent way to advertise for the site itself. You would be able to create project threads on all the other competing sites without feeling shifty(I assume you would post once a demo is available). This would sort of be a vanity piece but more of a show of work, for how awesome this site is and its community, like a game made by game makers for game makers. You would want to pull out all the stops and use every trick in the communities arsenal to make this game a hit. It wouldn't even have to be a long game, just a well made game with impressive story, spriting and mapping and scripting etc. Anyhow, just thought I would share my idea, hope ya like it. -Jon bon
  24. As I was looking around RMXP Unlimited I found a link to someones game page that was created on a free website making site and I loved the design. I checked free site out and decided to use it as well for the Merlin The RPGs official website. So that is now created link here and 90% of the site itself is complete (based on currently available information). While working on the site I gained a better idea on what I was able to create myself and gave an attempt to and successfully created quite a few sprites I did not previously have made. With that said, I believe I have 95%+ of the content created that I myself am able to create to have the kit itself ready. (IE, sprites and pixel work) After realizing this I went back to my checklists and started getting the reference pictures I needed for the work I plan to out source to talent found on RMXPU.After doing that, I have 90% or so of the reference pictures I need so that I may show the concepts for sprites I need creating. All that is left is to gain a better idea of exactly what scripts I need and include that information as well to the recruitment post. I have started in part collecting information on what scripts I need, however I still need to research and see if any of the ones I know exist are currently available. In the end its been an extremely productive week, and I hope to see some topic posts on RMPXU by the start or end of this up coming weekend. -Jon Bon
  25. I would have to say Final Fantasy 6 is by far my favorite of the series. My reasoning is SO many. Its 2 player It has two beginnings(mid way, destroyed world) over a dozen playable characters secret obtainable characters Permanent characters that may or may not die for good A story line worthy of a book The first final fantasy to be rereleased in NA(along side the first release of 5) The 'main character' is a girl The story truely revolves around the entire cast More then 2 female playable characters(no sausage fest thank you) For the first time ALL characters learned all magic Each character had a unique ability loosely or strongly based off a class in FF5 In order of my favorite to least, it would have to be: FF6 FF7 FF2 FF5 F8 FF9 FF Tactics FF1 FF Mystic Quest FF x-2 FF 11 FF10 FF12 Great Idea for a thread man. Cheers
