As some of you know, I'm coming very near to finishing my current main project. However, it's been kind of a beast. I've got quite a few maps, I've got a lot of imported graphics, and I've got mostly original music. This is a game that, knowing how to solve everything myself and where all the best items are, it takes me a couple hours to speed 100% the game. But my question is... do you guys think there's a certain file size I should try to keep my project under? Should I just be saying, it's a big game, get a big download, or are there things that ought to be heading to the chopping block in order to make it smaller? What's the average size of a completed project, to you? P.S. Is it better to offer up the whole project folder in a .zip, or to publish it where it's just the program that needs only the RTE?

The zombie uses Fear on... your command window?
NightmareFelix replied to NightmareFelix's question in Support
Heh... that's right. You've helped me remember. I made the battler graphic long, and blank on one side, so it would LOOK like it's slightly to the right of where it is originally. So... I guess that means now I have to figure out how to ACTUALLY move it. I assume I tried doing it the same way you reposition a window, but it didn't work. Sorry if my memory's foggy, I did this a long time ago. -
So, through my own scripting I have completely changed the layout of RMXP's default battle interface. Since my game is based around only having one character, I took the liberty of repositioning the battler. Unfortunately, when I use items, get attacked, or anything else involving animations on my character, they still appear on the far left. So... how do I move that stuff? I've been putting off fixing this for nine months because as much as I've dug through the scripts I just can't find it.

Halloween in April, anyone?

I've been composing music for it. Very happy so far. I may upload a track for you. -
Kevin is so super capable.

Welcome to the forum. I wish I could solve your question, but anything that comes to mind is either a really tiresome common event or involves scripting, which I don't remember enough of to do it. However. Again. Welcome. Someone significantly more useful than me will be by shortly to solve your problem I'm sure.

Hey, looks like the site is in a transitional period. Hrm. How fitting, for me to stumble into something that's a little bit in limbo. For those who don't remember me (which is probably most of you) I was working a long time ago on a survival horror RMXP game called Felix's Nightmare, which I uploaded a very early demo of almost a year ago. I've been hard at work for the last year. And my project is nearly complete. I can't wait to unleash it... erm, so you guys can tell me where the bugs are. Anyhow, I hope to be around a little more in the future when things start to form out of the shapeless darkness on this site.

Welcome. I have an old online friend who was a French Canadian, and if you are, like your avatar, an asian woman as well, that would be ridiculously uncanny, as she was too. Erm... anywho, welcome to the forum. Hope you find it an "engaging" community, where you get "help" with your "needs."

Felix's Nightmare Demo Available!
NightmareFelix replied to NightmareFelix's topic in Early in Development
Damn, Jon. Very, very nice. Thanks so much for all of that. There's a few things that to fix I'll have to look up scripts for, like having a larger block of text displayed, unless I felt like doing it all in picture form which would be way bigger. A few things you determined to be lag were things I just kind of... ignored. Like the boss, who was only really SUPPOSED to show up outside the door then fight you, and that animation of Felix walking into the storeroom which I just, for whatever reason, decided I didn't care about. Oh, and here's a question someone may help me with: The reason I do "no fade" on all the doors is because... remember that thing from the beginning, where the colors are normal for just a split second? That happens when you fade on a teleport into a room where there's a filter and fog. So since all my rooms have filters and fog, I didn't fade any of the doors. -
I disagree with anything from RTP or from another game. It has to be something created by the people here at the forum. And then we have to make a game about it.

Felix's Nightmare Demo Available!
NightmareFelix replied to NightmareFelix's topic in Early in Development
Bugs I'm aware of so far: -It is possible to get stuck in the second half of Part 1. The second place where the Bird's Eye needs to be used expends the Bird's Eye, but if you go back past the first door that needs it, you can't return to the upstairs hallway. -Dragon324 noticed that the door to the Chapel Hallway can be accessed through the handrail of the Courtyard balcony. This could be fixed easily by making the handrail impassable, which I'll do for the final version, but I don't think this will be something most people will be doing anyway. Or I hope. -
A new Survival Horror RPG from NightmareFelix. Felix and his squad of Special Investigators are on the trail of a serial murderer who may be holding a little girl captive... but in their pursuit, they stumble into a much more terrifying experience than they had ever dreamed. But is "dream" really a word with which you could describe this horror? Perhaps they'll find the killer and save the day. Perhaps they'll find something far worse. DOWNLOAD THE FELIX'S NIGHTMARE DEMO HERE Hi, everyone. Here we are, the first official demo of Felix's Nightmare (working title). You oughta know where all the files go. Just open up that game project with RMXP and test play it, or try your luck with any other method. I'm not designing this to be super user-friendly, just to work for other devs and get some feedback. It was pretty fun deleting a bunch of my work to hide it from you snoopers who may check the maps, events and database to see what you're in for. Quite liberating really. But I did leave a few surprises for those of you willing to dig for them. ;) For the rest of you, this demo is what I feel like showing the world so far. Couple notes about the game: -Check everything. Some items don't shine, and some things are just beautifully described by me, and I'd hate for you to miss that. -Don't be afraid to try to use your items from the menu. Keys for doors should work automatically, but certain -other- items will have to have their purposes deduced by you. After all, you're the special investigator - figure it out. -Save your game whenever you can. You can do so at the open books lying around the mansion grounds, and it's quite reccommended to do so - you never know what surprises may await you at the hands of Dr. Raphael and his various research projects. -Each weapon grants you a unique skill. You always have First Aid, but the other skill changes with the equipped weapon. Try them all out if you want. ;) Changes in the final game: -Currently using your Weapon Skill doesn't consume the weapon's ammo. I'll be changing that. -Some of the locked doors in this won't be locked later. Some of them are locked with a different item from what is used in the demo. But I changed things a tad for the demo. -This is about 15% of the work I currently have done on the game. What I currently have done is about 75% of the game. You do the friggin' math. - NightmareFelix / Will - Special thanks to... A Scripting Query Regarding Equipped Weapons
NightmareFelix replied to NightmareFelix's question in Support
Thanks, FZ, that's working perfectly... Oh, well, I guess I'll just delete me old common event. So... what if I wanna keep one common skill all the time? I figured I could work that out on my own but it's kind of not coming to me. -
A Scripting Query Regarding Equipped Weapons
NightmareFelix replied to NightmareFelix's question in Support

Alright. First ever help request post here. Let me see that I can lay this all out for you folks. Using RMXP. I have a common event that, long story short, makes it so that whichever weapon your hero (there is only 1 in this game) equips changes what his one, and only one at a time, unique skill is. So basically he can equip Weapon 1 and get Skill 1, but if he equips Weapon 2, he loses Skill 1 and gets Skill 2. Said event is running as Parallel, activated by a trigger that is on from the beginning of the game, so basically it's always checking, and when you swap weapons in the menu, it just sort of works. ANYWAY I told you that story to tell you this story. I'm using Eladia's Battle Equipment Menu v. 1.2 to let my player switch equipment in battle, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, it doesn't check their equipment until after the battle, so no matter what they equip, the skill stays as the first one throughout the entire battle. So if I can just call the common event -somewhere- in that equipping process, I think it ought to work. Maybe. Or if someone else has a better idea, pitch it. But I don't know -where- in the scripts to do it. I can post scripts or screenies or whatever if you guys need it. Thanks in advance, as I'm sure I look like a moron and this is probably solved very, very easily.

Hi, folks. Gosh, it's been a long time since I've devoted time to forums. What with social networking and all, it's kind of fallen off my list of stuff I do online. Anywho, I've been hard at work on an RMXP project, and through my Googlin' to find various scripts and things, I have stumbled upon your fine and fertile grounds. I'm hoping there are a lot of nice, helpful, and active people here, who may be able to help me with some problems I encounter, and maybe there are people less experienced than me whom I may be able to assist as well. Anywho, you can call me NightmareFelix, or Nightmare, or Felix, unless those names are taken by other people, then I guess you can call me poopface or whatever you feel like. I would tell you a bit about myself, but I really don't want to get carried away with how bleeding amazing I am at everything ever. Except not. I hope to feel right at home here, and now I will go carousing for a solution to one or two of my specific problems.
