Knights Creations recruiting spriters and composers
Ardaceus replied to EmilyAnnCoons's topic in Project Recruitment
Depending on what kind of music you like, I can probably compose some songs for you. I can do many different styles, though it mainly leans towards ambient the majority of the time. You can check out my soundcloud if you want to hear what kind of music I can do. -
Building a Free Library of Images for Everyone
Ardaceus replied to Eric Matyas's topic in Resource Showcase & Critique
Neat, now you have a website that makes Sound, and Image! -
Had a crappy 2016. 2017 is better for me by far. Just got a new laptop, installed all my programs on it, and the quality is so amazing! Been working on Wonder's War and Nementia, so much time I've spent into these things with all the soundtracks and graphics. Just got an email from the university I applied to, I got in, and with the program I selected. Moving into a new house, and there is a perfect room in the basement for me to set up a nice office-like room. Also got a drawing tablet, been making really good looking graphics with it. The only thing that's bad that's going on is this massive migraine I have right now. I've been just laying in bed staring at a virtual aquarium because I don't know what I'm doing right now. It's taken me about 4 hours to write this...

Games Section feedback request
Ardaceus replied to Marked's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
Personally, I think there should be more features to suit the person viewing the game page. So like, maybe the ability to divide the home page into sections would be nice. I think it would also be cool to be able to customize the colours of the page, such as backgrounds for the gamepages, and possibly instead of just having the name of the game, you can choose the option to use a custom photo where the title on the main page would go. I also think it would be worth having something like the ESRB description of why a game is rated as it is. Like my game has simulated gambling, fictional references to drugs, fantasy violence, and other stuff. I also think that maybe the featured games should be updated, or updates on it's own, and for the cancelled or inactive games on this site to enter another part of GDU's game section for unfinished/abandonded games that aren't going to be picked up soon or were just left alone and uncompleted. Besides that, I can't think of anything else. -
Game Dev Refinery Experience System is LIVE!
Ardaceus replied to Marked's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
Yes! I is the leader! But hey, pretty cool you got this working, now onto other cool stuff to make GDU Great Again! -
Oh... Oh you had to... But I really like the new look, and the ability to edit is very handy for people who need to. Makes less need for unnecessary multi posts when you can edit a post. I think 3 days is a good enough time to let someone edit for an update, helps keep relevancy before it dies of a bit.

Honestly from the look of it, it doesn't really give me any feeling of specialty. The character designs aren't that great, making me not want to play as any of them if I ever do play the game. The only characters' look I liked was Kayenne, but was still very bland in design. The animations for the characters in the gameplay video don't look impressive too much. I saw a lot of walking up to things and just that's that. The characters do nothing while something happens. And when I look at the menu screen, it looks way too generic for this new format many games are using for main menus. The menu isn't that bad actually, it just looks generic, note that I'm trying to be honest with my first look opinion. It reminds me of games like Dust an Elysian Tale, Time and Eternity, a lot of Tales games, even so, I'll say it does look better than most rpg main menus, such as the ones in the style of FF7, or the default RPG Maker menu. For my examples of good main menus, Okami, Persona, Dark Souls, Skyrim, and the later FF games have really good menus, from 10 onward. But don't get me wrong, the graphics are amazing! The environments look really cool and interesting, but considering how many games there are out there that are now getting graphics like this, and that graphics usually only impact the game for 20 minutes before you come to norms with the game, I can't defend it more than that. The narrator for both trailers is very bland, and points out many features that are common between a lot of games... not catching at all. But the voice acting is pretty good and clear on the other end. If there is something I really like about this game, it would have to be the npcs and enemies. Their animations are really good from what I saw, and really match the great looking environment. But to say what looks not as great is the combat system, which is an action system and and rpg system. Reminds me of Soul Caliber fighting a lot... or even the Tales of the Abyss style of fighting, but without much strategy other than "use this super effective move against the enemy to win." I also like the name of the game, Shiness, and how the magic is called "Shi", it's really fantasy like, in a way that I do enjoy the simplicity and creativity with it, though I wish the game dropped the "The Lightning Kingdom"... like what? Throughout the entire demo, there was no mention of a Lightning Kingdom, and what is this Lightning Kingdom? There was literally no mention of this "Lightning Kingdom" anytime at all, not even in the description of this game, and I'm still looking for it. I don't like it when games give meaningless or unimportant subtitles to their games, it just doesn't make any sense. Like "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" makes perfect sense of a title, cause a lot of important events in that game revolve around the Ocarina, and it's one of the most useful items in the game next to the master sword and the bow. Or every Atelier game, they have subtitles to tell about the main character, and define each game away from eachother. Dust, an Elysian Tale makes sense because it's the name of the character, but Dust on it's own means nothing really as to what kind of game it is, so Elysian tale adds the idea of it being a sort of fantasmical game. Or how about even every Call of Duty game? They all have titles that are very relative to the main plot and series of game that defines them. Modern Warfare is modern warfare with all it's own lore. Black Ops is you being the Black Operatives in getting the f***ing numbers out of your head. And Ghosts is actually pretty fun and realistic, and has great meaning with the plot as you become a ghost. On the other hand... Ones that don't make sense are every Lego game ever, putting "THE VIDEOGAME" after every god damn title. And Tomb Raider: UNDERWORLD (Isn't she always in the underworld underground?". And Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (so injustice?). Battlefield 2: HARDLINE (what the hell is a hardline? I checked and has little to do with the game whatsoever). Beyond the Beyond (Does anyone know this game?). And pretty much every RPG Maker game with any sort of subtitle whatsoever... I'm not going to point any fingers because I'm a ghost, I don't have fingers, and if I did, I may point at some games on this website. Game titles are important, simple words or ideas are best unless if you have multiple games in the lineup, like as easy as Megaman, Mm 2, Mm3, MmX, Mm whatever. It's a well respected name because it's easy to remember, Shiness is an easy word to remember, but after it comes "The Lightning Kingdom" which has no apparent value to being there. Examples of good names that work great are Mass Effect, Dead Space, The Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy, Persona, Bayonetta, Call of Duty, Outlast, Minecraft, Donkey Kong, Super Mario, Slender, I'm just reading games off my pc and game shelf at this point, Pokemon, Cave Story, Undertale, Okami, Borderlands, League of Legends, Amnesia "The Dark Descent" (oh hey look, a subtitle that actually makes sense), Five Nights at Freddy's, Half Life, Portal... you get the idea. None of these titles have anything complex to their names, and they are memorable. Just throw a 2 or a III at the end of your game and you're fine... except for the first game, always remember to never let the people buying your game that you're going to make sequels even before they buy your game, just leave it as it is. So, I'm not really interested in this game. Yeah...

Community poll: Is GDU too complex?
Ardaceus replied to Marked's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
Compared to many other different forum sites, this isn't difficult at all to navigate. Like really, I can't find my game page on Indie DB and Gamejolt... and I don't even know where the profile settings are half the time, it's always a journey around those sites. -
You know if there is this sort of issue, you can just send a PM to Mark and he'll answer it right away.

... But I have all the Nintendo Games I need right here.... Wait I just realized... Where did my Donkey Kong Country 2 go? That game is the bomb! And now that I'm here I should as well say, I have struck a deal with my father who may buy a new console for me if I learn to drive perfectly by the end of this school year... hmmm....

I literally only just learned about this in the past 5 minutes and now it's completely taking over the internet. Like 10 minutes ago, I didn't see anything, but now I have hundreds of things appearing on all the websites I visit over this. While cool, I probably won't be able to get it due to my available funds for this kind of stuff... yay... two generations of consoles in a row I won't be able to enjoy... I'm still stuck on the Xbox360, Wii, and PS3... Seriously, I have two Xbox360s... and two 3ds's because I can only get this stuff through gifts from people who know nothing about video games... dang it... At least PC always has everything available.

Wow, I remember when you first told us about this in the past, and it was really interesting. Now that it's finished, I myself would like to try a free demo of the game! I mean, who doesn't want to make a game in 3d?
-
I do know of one way to achieve this sort of effect, but it would take a lot of customized graphics in order to pull off, and for you to go into the scripts and change a lot of placement values so you could pull it off. It allows you to make menus along the bottom of the screen, and you can also animate backgrounds. I've used it in my own game to create many different backgrounds. The good thing about this guy, is that it is available on any platform of RPG Maker. It's Moghunter, and I love that guy's scripts. Here's the link to the site you need. https://atelierrgss.wordpress.com/scripts/rpg-maker-xp/

Commercial Games with RPG Maker 2000
Ardaceus replied to MaverickHunterDBoy's topic in General Game Development
Well, the quality isn't that great on RPG Maker 2000 if you were to make a game, so you would have to make your game be very unique in it's own sense if you wanted to make a profit on it. Otherwise, if you just used regular RTP resources with making your game, and sold it for like 5, 10, whatever bucks for the game, it would make you look like just some other guy and people would likely ignore your game. Even mentioning the use of a 16 going on 17 year old game creation software that makes games that look as not great as Final Fantasy 1, wouldn't do well for your reputation. My personal opinion is to use stuff that looks much better than what you have offered with RPG Maker 2000's RTP, and use your own soundtrack with it. Something to give PiZZaZ! to the old program. -

I really like how you are doing the looping versions for these songs, makes it easier for such projects where looping is required. -
Game Maker Pro! $1885 worth of stuff for $15!
Ardaceus replied to Polraudio's topic in Engine Discussion
The only thing that sucks about it is that you have to wait 2 weeks to get the steam key for the program... Which is quite important because you can only use GMSP on a Windows 10 if you have the Steam version of it, or you use the UWC version which is still in beta and testing. Otherwise, you shouldn't have a problem using the program. -
Yo! Welcome to the Game Development Unlimited. I am the guardian of the chat, ghost of GDU, Ardi, and I shall be your host this evening. May I show you around? Great! This website offers a forums section where you can make graphical or musical requests to people in the community, or discuss problems you are having with engines such as Unity or RPG Maker, we try our best to give a response right away. If you don't have anything along the lines of those, we also offer a section dedicated to plain mundane chat about anything, from movies to politics in the misc sections of the GDU Forums. We also have a games section where you can post your game(s) to be seen by our community, and showcase whatcha all about. You can also check all the completed games and games in the works in this section. The resources section is a library of resources people have donated to this website, but be careful, some resources may be stolen from other people, so make sure you know who to credit. This is done easily by searching the picture on Google. There needs to be some resource removal for stolen resources on this website that makes sure new people to this site don't fall for that trap... @Polraudio (get on this dood) We also have a tutorials section dedicated to teaching anybody tricks to utilize in many different programs. Ranging from spriting techniques to an advanced coding class. We also have a chat room where if you wait long enough, someone on the website might come around to talk to you, or you'll likely run into me, as I'm usually watching or I'm in the chat from 4pm-12am EST on weekdays, and from whatever time I wake up to 10pm on weekends. We also have a lonely arcade section where you can play silly little games which you can find along the footer of this website, or in a bunch of other hidden away places. Have fun beating those high scores because they never update the scoreboard. And while you stay here, please be aware of our no double posting rule, and try to keep topics on topic, like don't get from talking about implementing bunnies in a boss battle to preforming satanic rituals to summoning the restless soul of Michael Jackson, it is not favoured by our admins on the website for it to happen. Please, enjoy your stay at GDU!
