  1. @Marked The mapping system is actually very easy to use, you have your floor/water & walls/ceiling Level which will be referred to as the A1-4 level, then you have the stairs/bridges & carpet/tile that does not auto complete which will be referred to as the A5 Layer, then you have the B-E Layers which are decorations to place around your room that each have a lot more flexibility for placement compared to the A layers, since you can control how your player does or does not pass through an object which will be referred to as the Dec Layer, and finally, you can use eventing as another layer, but this event layer is more tricky to understand compared to the other 3 layers. The uniquest thing compared from the event layer to the other 3 layers is that event layers have the ability to move and change through playing with event scripts, which no other layer can do. The event layer can act in 3 different ways. The first is to have the layer hover above everything else which can be useful for things like birds and hovering contraptions over the player. The second is to have the event on the same level as the player, which acts the same like a player, going under and over any objects specified in the other 3 layers, exactly the same way that the player can be seen while passing through the tiles, this is useful for having creature/human and decorations for the player to interact with. The last way is to have the event go under all tiles in the Dec Layer, but it will still go over tiles in the A1-4 Layer and the A5 Layer, this is useful for having fancy carpets under a drawer or if you want to have bugs/rats scattering over the floor. The only catch with this layer is that it can only take the form of anything from the B-E tilesets on the current tileset you are using, and any sprite that you have in the 'Character' folder of your game. If you want to get a tile from the A tilesets, you'll have to use a program to convert the A tileset into a spritesheet, which you can use with an event... and that's all to using the 4 layers... but there was a huge breakthrough in MV I found! Instead of having only these 4 layers, I found that you can actually use multiple things from the B-E tilesets on the same Dec Layer!! They will order themselves as to how you ordered them, but it's just so awesome that you can combine multiple tiles on one! I haven't gone into the full extent of this, and I can't give you much detail, but if you don't know this by now, now you know, which makes MV quite far superior to VX by this regard. Another reason why MV is superior to VX is in graphics detail, with the larger Px x Px size, combined with the higher FPS rate is amazing from the small project I made to test it out. There are also a lot of other things that differ VX from MV, like the scripting used, the amount of options for customization in the Data Manager, the ability to pan music/effects, the RTP, and the big thing, which is the choice for side battle view. But as to why I like about VX Ace is the smaller pixel sizes, the chibier sprites, the mp3 music option, the aesthetic look to the creator, and definitely the amount of scripts available for VX Ace. There are many other reasons I could give as to why I like VX Ace to MV and XP, but that's not for here. So when I compare these sprites, it is obvious to me which I like better. I like the middle one the most, because it doesn't use too many details unlike the other two which pretty much summarize what you can create in the XP and MV character generator. If you want me to go on a rant about why chibi is the best sprite, make a post about that. Well it looks like I have nothing else to talk about, except the new toolbar which looks mighty better... just look at that magnificent thing I love! Ardi out.
  2. I'm just looking at those statistics and am I the only one wondering as to how the bloody hell VX is more popular than Ace? Well, seeing as how the marketing of games is very popular on mobile devices, MV's new port to that platform may/will interest developers setting their sights to that platform, making this a great option for those who wish to cater this way. But for me, I'm sticking with VX Ace, I like it a lot better than XP and MV to be honest, though I like MV's mapping system a lot better.
  3. Are there any events on the tile, because an event on a tile will prevent movement if you haven't set it's settings to something along the lines of passable.
  4. Now this seems s00pah interesting... But sadly, even though I really want to use this program, I'm still stuck with VX Ace until I'm finished my project, which is going to take a long long long time... This is cool, and I'm looking forward to using this program.

  6. While mapping is something that won't make your game horrible, having good map planning and/or unique map planning will make your game more memorable for the more work you put into a game. The point of a game is to impress your audience, and while a good story is good enough for a game, adding elements to add to the game can help effect the story being told. Invest some money and permissions into obtaining resources and look at some mapping tutorials on YouTube, I'm pretty sure if you were to do those things, the story I've read (along with some nice music) would make for a great game I would play through. It's just a suggestion, while there is nothing wrong with using just RTP graphics, I would tell you that you need to improve upon some map building skills. Don't let it wear you down, you just need to learn a bit more about the 2D RPG mapping procedures. That is all, don't think you are failing just because you made some bad maps, every single developer knows that they have made something they have redone a billion times.
  7. Well, Pol pointed out some things I didn't, but I want to give you an idea on how a house should look, so I pulled up a picture of a hotel room in my game.#don'tmindthebinnexttothetubbecauseI'mrearangingthebathroom #Ialsonoticethestoolatthetablefixingthattoo Indoor houses should have a similar look to this, but have a more housey feel since this is just a hotel room. Mine is not perfect, but it is at least the standard in my opinion. Me and Pollywannacracker said that there should be room for everyone in a town/city, this can be done in two ways depending on what you are going for. If you are going for a fantasy town, kinda what you are going for, I would suggest you look at some of the example town maps that come with the RTP of the maker. There are a lot of houses, and the flow looks great. And then there is a city kinda setup, which I can explain by this: Lots of space everywhere, lots of homes, just like a Residential area in New York. Also what I meant by generic is simply stating off the RTP and the size of the buildings are completely unproportionate to the character models. If you want to try and make an inn that looks proportionate I would try something like this: That is an inn in my game, keeps to a large size. But if you want to make an excuse for making a place bigger than it should probably be, you can have the architectural design going down a level into the basement, like I did in my inn, having 3 levels of the pub, and 10 rooms on the top. (Also a side note on that map you are looking at, that is the day time of the city, not night time. The night time looks even better... Welcome to Ecilave, Capital of the Dark Elves.) Those are some tips I have to give on VX Ace Design.
  8. While I give you credit for making a pretty good script for the game, I can't say that I like these mappings as much. Luna Village looks pretty generic, keeping to a very simple design, and also having less houses than people occupying it. And I see that the graphics are RTP, which don't look as great as if you used custom graphics. Also, I would suggest to look for a less brighter colour for this city, like a calm darkish colour. The home doesn't even look like a home. I take technological design, and I have studied house designs, and whoever designed that house would be fired. I have never seen a hallway continue on into nothing, the bedroom is too spacey, and would work better as a living room, which is not even in the house. You would usually hide a storage room at the back of the house, near the bedrooms at the end or in the middle of a hallway. The dining room has only one entrance, and that is through the kitchen. All rooms besides small rooms and bedrooms should have two entrances/exits as far as I know. And the fireplace doesn't even look like it is on the wall, it looks like a worm that is squigglying into the bedroom like the movie Tremors. Then there is the fact that there are no windows in the house, and speaking of the walls, who the heck uses a castle walls for their house, it looks unnatural. Finally, I don't know a single residental house besides castles and very very rich people who have floor made of cobblestone. Wood or carpet would be a better alternative. Speaking of carpet, this person has no sense of decorating a home, as there are no carpets on the floor, the bed looks to be attatched to the upper part of the lower wall, the person seems to love have 3 of the same wall hanging (shield and painting), this person also seems to hate having any table besides a dining table which doesn't have chairs, like the piano, and there is no decorations in the entire foyer. I would redo the whole house because the only redeeming value of this house is the kitchen which looks pretty normal in terms of appliances. The shelves and cabinents look okay in the armoury, but everything looks weird scattered, and the counter looks tiny and out of place. That lab looks amazing, but I just have one question... WHAT ARE THOSE!!!?!?!?!?! That's not a cafe, that is a very unorganized cafeteria. But on the bright side, that pub looks alright, but the wine bottles on the tables look kinda like they are floating on the side. That's what I think.
  9. I would profit from this because I'm fluent in Javascript, but the only thing it needs to include is importing maps from previous versions of RPG Maker. If that were the case, then I would make Wonder's War on MV. Because with 200 maps currently in the game, I don't want to redo them all ^^
  10. Yanfly has a script which can do just that, and it also increases many other limits like gold and item carrying. http://rpgmaker.net/scripts/56/
  11. Wow, I love every single piece you make! And I like how you keep posting on this website! I subscribed to you on YouTube so that I get to know the second you make them!
  12. I have three words for this game idea... I greenlight this, and I will not make any other comment of judgement unless if there is actual game stuff involved.
  13. The signature... so when can we schedule an appointment? I'm free next Friday if you are available, wanting to make some cash ;).

  14. Done my review, looks to be a pretty great short RPG, not a must play, but definitely enjoyable by the script for the game. If made a game available on GDU, I would suggest to people who don't know much about game design and/or character design to try it, for it has pretty good of both by the looks of it.
  15. Huh, a tester eh? A lot of people on this website have been looking around for people to test their game. It's cool that you are willing to test stuff out. Welcome to GDU then! A place where game developers or resource creators get together and discuss and share ideas and topics! Hope you enjoy your stay!
  16. I have been looking for many lottery systems to use in my game, and this one is quite good. I don't have one like this, that bases it off of selecting the right numbers. Though if I have to say one thing to improve, make it so that there is more action when betting money, it feels pretty boring to bet money away the way you presented it. One of the big things about gambling that makes it so addictive is that there are lights and symbols to each station that attract players to play, and add a lot of enjoyment to the loss of money. Then if you can make some cool look to it, I would love to put it in my game! Like if you had blue neon lights on a board that you import numbers to. That would be amazing for looks, and make the game a lot more fun than looking at boxes containing characters.
  17. I was asking about the resources on this website that don't state anything about crediting. Like this is an example of a resource I found on this website that I wish to use in my commercial game but I don't see any copyright claims on this object. Then when I look at the http://www.gdunlimited.net/mission-statement, it says that this website is to provide exclusive resources. Are there rights to the website of free use to anything posted? That is what I wish to know.
  18. Asked Marked if there are any copyrights on GDU for the resources I should be aware of besides the ones stated with the resource. He told me to post a topic somewhere on this, so here I go. I (and probably lots of others) have downloaded resources on GDU, but I'm not seeing many credentials I need to give out. Like there is Luz who made a bunch of icons that I used and gave her credits because she asked. But when I go into the battler and other pictures, I'm not seeing any credentials to give, nor anything saying about being able to use them in a commercial game. So I'm just wondering if the phrase "Resources to use in your game" means that whatever people post in it can be used in commercial games without any problems from the creator of the content unless stated rules. Thx.
  19. I also have time on my hand when I'm not having a game making session, so I could read it and give a critique on the script if you would send it to me.
  20. A Zelda 2D platform... Next sale around, I'm getting XP and trying it out because that would be awesome! Hopefully this project is working and hasn't ended because I would like to try it out.
  21. You did something in the blog section... And nice you're playing Xenosaga...
  22. I'm so sorry for not releasing the demo, I'm having to deal with a lot of issues right now, so I can't get around to releasing the demo for at least another week. My sincere apologies.

  23. Yeah, I feel like a complete newbie to this website now. Great... but anyway! So I saw Bob post this, and I think it's reasonable to talk about from, except for when I stated. So here is my own opinion on this from my perspective while trying to keep with Marked's predicament: - Teamspeak Server...? It would likely have to be run by someone in the site, cause ain't no Marked got time for that - A page that features all of a person's work (we kind of have that in profiles, but it seems incomplete) This would be the only thing I want added to a site - Fix being able to upload a gif as an avatar This would be cool, but it's just a little thing I would like honestly, the one thing I want fixed personally - Either remove the blog section entirely or add it to the recent posts thing and make it easier to find I wasn't a part of it to make comments on this - Reduce the size of youtube videos in chat I'm not mad if you don't fix this, cause it's just a super small thing that should be ignored - The ability to delete or edit your own quotes (maybe...?) I regret some of the quotes I put up. I would love to delete them Well, I understand your part of the conversation Marked, and that you can't always work on it. And if you don't want to find someone else to work on it, I'll respect that. So I'll just drop from the conversation I guess since all I made this for was to point out things that were broken on GDU, but don't get me wrong, this site is amazing, and you've done a great job on it Marked. I'm happy that this site exists, and I'll probably keep coming back for some time to come. So Ardi out, I'll probably go back to being the guardian of the chat cause I'm that ghosty.
  24. I was thinking of how to get around to solve the problem, that Marked didn't trust handing the files to someone who could delete them. What I came up with was to copy the html file (or CSS or whatever Marked uses) that can be improved upon, then him sending it by email to someone who could fix it if it needs work. Then when they figure out the problem, they can send the fixed version back to Marked.
  25. The second you mentioned "Merry-Go-Round of Life" I went on a marathon of watch Howl's Moving Castle, followed by Castle In the Sky, then Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart, then finishing with Totoro. Thank you Kitsuki for reminding me of those movies I have not watched in a while, and the great stories and soundtracks they have.
