RaptorMoonX 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 The day has finally come! On the last day of February (leap day of all days :P), Enterbrain has released the official English version of RPG Maker VX. All the information is here. Now all I need is to find a beginners tutorial on how to use it (and XP). I gotta learn both programs in 3 weeks.

RaptorMoonX 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 An english version yay and why do you have 3 weeks to learn the programs? I'm taking Interactive Entertainment I at my college. The "big" project concerns creating a fully functional game. I have to start putting the game together in three weeks. I've been gathering resources, doing paperwork, and other projects since the beginning of the class. I found a few good basic tutorials for XP, but I haven't found any for VX. I skimmed through VX while at work today and it seems way different from XP. Hope I'm wrong though. I'm just looking for the simplest way to learn the most about the program(s). Once summer rolls around I'll be able to really play with it and improve on the game I have to make (which will not be released due to really stupid school regulations >_<). Any help would be wonderful. ^^;;
isaacsol 10 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 Just remember that Eventing is practically the same in VX as it is in XP, so you can follow XP eventing tutorials for VX.
Stryke107 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 Well, I still get the "unexpected File Format" message every once and a while, but I can't quite figure out what I have to do to NOT get it... Oh well, it seems to work well, and I am enjoying it a lot.

Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted March 2, 2008 I'll get it, once I find a way to not pay for it. Enterbrain still is on my shit list.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 I agree with Ark. As soon as my net works completly at home without being stupid I will probably have a full copy of RMVX to and then I will have to hook Ark up because he *whispers*retarded a little*whispers*. isaacsol 10 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 There is a way to not pay for VX, just use your code from XP O_o I just used it thinking that it was worth a try and it worked :D I got VX for free!
Kadski 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2008 What's the differnce? And which is better?
wickedsunny 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 Its not about what is better. if you talk about graphics, being a designer I would say vx has much better graphics. But it is very limited at this point of time. Limitations - Tile sets- square and not circular graphics only 5 tilesets A- E - you can import only tiles in E, that means you cannot create something fully custom made or use vx graphics and your custom graphics in combination or even import xp tiles in huge amount. No side view battle system which is horrible. pro - its very easy to use and design maps, even events are very easy, just one click, no need of scripting unless you are making something totally different. Graphics are better, auto tiles gives you loads of different options, especially the shadow function for buildings. I think instead of sticking with xp we should add custom made scripts to vx to improve its limitations and make it much better with all the functionality of xp and vx combined.. ~Mystic~ 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 Isn't it possible to create a tile system found in XP?
wickedsunny 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 Isn't it possible to create a tile system found in XP? Yes Mystic it is possible. A better idea will be to create maps in xp, export as screenshots and used in vx as panaroma pictures, you can see pictures in the editor in vx and then use blank tiles to block the edges and all, small maps wont make it lag and that will be enough to use vx. VX does not lag that much and thats the main thing, use anti lag script and you are probably never going to get a lag.
