FranklinX 37 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 I think it is really great that more people are joining the forums at a faster rate! Over 100 people join last week. However, 100 new members have equaled zero new active forum members. I don't expect every member to be very active. However, no one out of over 100 is active. That is just very strange. I've never seen this before on any forum. We have cool members and a great staff.
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 I have noticed this also. I have done some research on this, as a matter of fact. 1/3 people who sign up actually sign in. 1/25 actually make a few posts. I think that only 1/60 actually stay signed up and stay on the forum after 6 posts or so.
clone1018 4 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Thats just what happens. They join. Leech. Then leave
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Exactly. Leech is the proper term, also. Leech until they got no more blood to suck out, which in this case, is resources, etc..

Kaylen 1 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Maybe we could make it so people don't need to sign in to leech, that way only people that want to join the community will register.
squidgy617 2 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 I'm new. I suppose I sort of have been leeching, considering I really needed help with some stuff and that I wanted some resources, but I'm still staying online even after I have all I need. I'm not just gonna get off after six posts. Well, thats 1 out of 100 people.
Marked 197 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 Maybe we could make it so people don't need to sign in to leech, that way only people that want to join the community will register. I had made the entire site accessible to guests apart from the downloads manager, due to bandwidth. Enabling guest downloads will stop the leech-registrations, but it will not increase posts. Think about it, the leeching members are a statistic and database space. And perhaps a bit disheartening to staff members who work on the site. I'm not too worried about the leeching members who register for that purpose. The increase in pageviews as a result are probably more beneficial. What we must think about in topics like these are, how can we get people interested and posting ? I'm new. I suppose I sort of have been leeching, considering I really needed help with some stuff and that I wanted some resources, but I'm still staying online even after I have all I need. I'm not just gonna get off after six posts. Well, thats 1 out of 100 people. Leeching is coming, downloading and leaving. Asking for help is in no way leeching. To be honest, we want to help as many people as we can :) In fact I encourage you to find something you cannot do, just so we can help you with it. I have been away a lot lately and my laptop is currently disassembled so I'm doing nothing at the moment. In my 2010 topic I talked about what im doing to change rmxpunlimited, and I will be continuing to do so for a while to come. Every admin cannot continue forever, I've been going for 3 years, and at the moment I cannot see anybody at the moment who would take my place. I dont want a 3 year project to die, so of course it makes sense for someone to continue when I go. About the posting, the biggest issue I see is a forum structure disaster. It's something I'm not good at, and im looking for the best, most efficient/productive way to present the rmxpunlimited forums. Personally I have to make a tradeoff. With the limited time I have to be here, do I learn how to create a better website(such as continuing the development of my script submission component), or do I get better in RMXP and learn RMVX and create systems/content for the site? FranklinX 37 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 What we must think about in topics like these are, how can we get people interested and posting ? I have a few ideas to get people posting. 1. Making new resources. 2. Post 3. Make good topics and discuss gaming. 4. Make Scripts. We may need a staff unit. A group for resources, scripts, utilities, etc. This way we have members working to get things down on the site. It will make us more active. I really liked your idea for Project Profiles. I hope they are the first to get finished for the site!
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 Yes this is common on any message board. An example would be if you looked at the Naruto Fan Forum which contains 164,882 members and we all know not all of them are active. Plus their main website/network has 3 million members; but this is where you actually find active members as it cost money to be a member on their website/network. It is just the way of the community.
Grim 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2009 I know a big factor for me is time. School is very time consuming and this is the first time I've posted in forever. Last night was even the first time I've opened RMXP since ... forever.
Guest Midnight Assassin Report post Posted December 25, 2009 Bringing in new resources or devote members won't lure members. It'll lure leeches. There'll be more for them to suck out of us. I guess we can't help it, aye? Welcome to the internet.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 This problem is not getting solved by any member on this forum. Does anyone have any ideas how we can pick things up? It is a shame that this great site is not as popular as it should be.
Dark Den 4 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 I say we should invite all our friends and encurage them to use rmxp etc. Sadly i tried but failed
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 Summer is on its way. just a few more weeks and just watch it pickup. Its already picking up.
Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 I think I'm going to polraudio on this one.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 I have to disagree totally on this one. Other sites still have large amounts of active members on their sites all year round. The Summer is not a solution for this. What about Fall, Winter, and Spring? We can't leave 9 months of the years for the same members posting. I like you guys I honestly do, but would like to see different people posting with new ideas.
Dark Den 4 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 Maybe we should only let people download if they have 15 posts
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 Then that results in the classic 500 million people signing up. Each of them making 15 pointless and useless spam post, downloading what they want and never coming back.
Marked 197 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 Clearly things need to change drastically  In terms of RMXP, it is hard to deny that it is not dieing. Excluding RPGRevolution, look at the fall of some of the largest RMXP forums (CA,.NET/.ORG/HBGames). Ok, so lets scrap XP, or at least phase it out. It's pointless to continue in something where the population of members will only decrease. It's time for change, i think we can agree. What I want to do is change this into a dev forum. I really do think that members should be a result of a good website.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I think the site should focus on ALL game making programs. XP in the name tells people "oh no it is a site for only one program".
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I use XP :C My game will be for XP *Cries* I think new features, a new theme, some advertisements and some userbars will help this forum out. We'll need to make it vivid to others that this site can offer so much, but how? I mean, this site has the most helpful and nice (And I stress nice very hard, because all the other sites have jerk moderators and members :C)people and moderators. Other sites, like RMK, have a large forum and loads of resources and things like that. They have scripters there, which is why so many people go there. We barely have all the scripts others have, I think we need to expand on it. I could probably help gather resources and stuff.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 We have plenty of XP resources. We do need more VX resources. Ask people for their permission to show their scripts. Also ask them to join us. Advertisements cost money. However if Marked gets an Ad system like Google then it could pay for it.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I meant advertisements for our forum ^.^
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I think we should also shift to a new direction in means of a dev site. I think this has a 95% chance of everything going very very well. Total new domain name. What would it be tho?
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 Hm...I don't know, maybe something with "community" in it? I always loved sites with the word "community" in it. It should how friendly they are ^.^ Maybe I could beat my sister up until she makes so awesome banners? Or advertisement banners? She's a freak at graphics, seriously lol
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I meant advertisements for our forum ^.^ That is what I said and a meanings of funding it.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 You don't need to fund advertisement...oh wait, you think I mean links that appear on other people's forums? No, no. I meant in people's sigs, advertisement threads...things like that. I always do it :) Also... I've seen so many people the generator state card on other forums. I think we've had a increase for that soul reason...
Marked 197 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I've seen so many people the generator state card on other forums. I think we've had a increase for that soul reason... :D Oh, remind me to update that. Gona ajax it in the next release :) but thats in 3 weeks after my exams. I checked the other day, 700 cards have been generated (although of course there are double-ups). I'm staying out of this thread for now, the discussion is interesting :)
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I've see many people with the cards, especially in the VX community. I've only generated I think, about 4 cards. Maybe I'm wrong about that?
