Well people, I'm please to announce that I made it I was WAY more productive. I'd say i got 500% more things done while the comp was shut down. But uhh... I was really bored a lot of the time, though that's probably partly due to where I live and since it's January. Thanks for the support though, and I'm quite pleased with the poll. I did come up with one or two ideas for the forum, but I think I want to spend a little less time on the production side here. And perhaps get some more staff.

Hey forum, Today the thought of doing something productive swirled around in my mind. But instead I went to the comp, and lazed. And so I wondered, could I go 7 days without using my computer? Probably not I thought, what else is there to do? Turns out I've been putting A LOT off. For example, I've had my future to think about for the last month or so, but that's a lot of energy, energy I'd rather waste on this here screen. This makes me think of a discussion. If we had no computers, what would life be like? Because I really am starting to think that, perhaps life would be better. For me anyway. For those who use a computer for more than entertainment or email, do you think you are better off having a computer? Or worse off? As they say in economics, every choice has an opportunity cost. What do you sacrifice by using your computer, slightly or a lot, more than you should? Well I'm going to find out, compare the past week to the next. And I urge you to join me! As a result of my brain melting from day after day of wasted computer use, I've put up a poll on the main website. An identical poll was put up in '08, the results showing 5-8 hours a day was most common by 40%. The next was 12+ hours with 30%. If my maths are any good, that's 70% who spend 5 or more hours a day on a computer. That's 20% of the day. I really need to go on a break before I burn out. I heard, for the couple of minutes I payed attention in economics(or was it accounting?), that at Google every so often they let their developers work on what they want to work on. Their own ideas. And apparently, 30% of the ideas that come to life at Google come from the developers doing their own thing. I suddenly forgot the relevance of this as I am the admin of this site, but I think being away and off the site helps new ideas. Goodbye everyone. Pol, I'm informally announcing that you're in charge as the only active authority left. If anything happens, just txt me. As soon as this is posted, I'm turning off my wireless for exactly one week.

This entry was made for the purpose of community discussion and feedback I have been wondering what is the best way to support multiple engines, and to promote new ones(primarily RPG Maker VX). I have looked at how other forums do this (most not RPG Maker forums/competitors) and most of them have identical forums for each engine. Something we tried, and I don't particularly like. To sum up our 1/4 year forum-structure transition, these are final changes I want implement. I'd like users to comment whether they like it, dislike, or what should be different and altered. I will add short descriptions, but these will not be final. This also excludes sub-forums. Game Development(Category) Game Design & Development(forum) For discussion about game design in general. Not at this time, but I think I may be able to create that. What exactly did you have in mind? My initial thought was on the stats have a field where you can enter the members ID and then it loads up their stats. Every single stat on the page is basically a SQL query using the members ID. But some of those queries are very advanced, I learned a heck of a lot making this. My only issue with this is that some members may feel like it's their private information. For example, who reps you the most, who do you rep the most. Do you really want everyone knowing that information? I'm not sure, but I think some members may feel like thats an invasion of privacy, and may even alter the actions as a result(for example, not use the rep system altogether). Yep we've had the youtube channel for some time now. I want to add a lot more content to it though. I'd like to give out the login details to the staff members, but I'm not sure any would use it. I plan to look for more staff and build a solid staff base in 2010. I don't know about being the future of the RM community, we're way way down the list, but I still have a lot of plans yet.

Thanks guys, glad you like them. Though the topic is mainly about the User Stats component, it really took some time to create.
-
I voted with the trend as well. There's probably a percentage of members who would take the time to play the demo correctly. If 10 people download it, thats 1 person, if 100, then 10 people. So I suppose it's best to go with the screenshot. Although a video would be a combination of the two.

Very nice Hebi, I'm glad this is getting off the ground. I wish you luck with developing it further.

Over the past few days I have been working on a new website component. To build on the last announcement, Re-Integration, this component shows what we can do with the integration. The User Stats component is a fully integrated component using the websites framework and our own website-forum bridge. It contains stats for your topics, polls, posts, profile, reputation and posts. The reason I have been working on it for three days is because, believe it or not, it has over 800 lines of code and nearly 200 variables. So I hope you guys enjoy it. Visit my User Stats This was mainly written for the regular members. New members aren't going to get a lot from it as it's going to change until they get a decent few posts under their belt. I was also going to do stats for the blogs, downloads and gallery, but it takes so long to write that I thought I would just post it now and build on it later if you guys like it. I would also like to hear suggestions about what kind of stats that you want to see about your account, and I'll try and add them in here. And please report any bugs you find, I only tested it with a few accounts. I am also going to (once i recover from writing this) create a hall of fame stats section where it shows the members with the highest stats. Posts, profile views, downloads, gallery views, most helpful member, etc. All the good stuff. RMXP Unlimited Dev Blog I have started writing in my Blog about what RMXPUnlimited development. This topic is actually from a blog entry. There's a few things going on. At times of low activity I tend to do a lot more, I suppose its an incentive. I will also add questions and throw around ideas in the entries for you guys to comment on. Visit the RMXP Unlimited Dev Blog RMXP Unlimited going Social The icons in the top-right corner of the website all finally work Twitter Youtube RSS We've had youtube for a while now, and going to try twitter. I don't have high hopes for it though, but I'm thinking of having a module on the homepage that shows twitter entries. Just another way to keep users up to date with RMXPU happenings. We'll just see what happens. Lastly, there is new feature of the website login module, Post Integrity: It can also be called points per post, but I prefer my subliminal messaged title. :) Here's the explanation of it from the Points page(you can go there by clicking that question mark beside it): Oh yeah, and I'll get the voted smilies up soon. As well as a super cool advanced bbcode to replace the boxes and a bunch more. Check the blog for more... :)

This is going to show in your stats :P

What site was it? You should totally complain, flick 'em an email.

This topic was to test the ajax fast reply mod. Announced here: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/topic/4037-writers-forum-fast-reply-recent-posts-hook/

It's a shame you lost the original project file, though it looks like it was for the best. Sounds like a harddrive thing, but here's a script that you may find helpful: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/index.php/rmxp/rgss1-scripts/item/misc-systems/auto-backup-.html The concept art is amazing. I think you could go commercial with this stuff too. There's always a shortage spriters. Though your promise of free porn was a lie  The storyline is interesting, not your classic RPG with swords and bows etc. This is definitely a project to keep an eye on.

Thanks for the comment Tomo. The 'From' in the recent posts hook is actually not an error...well it sort of is. You see I have the trashcan setting enabled which basically moves all deleted posts and topics to a read-only forum, which i have to set to viewable by admins only. So when posts get deleted, the 'From' will come up. But yeah, members should not see it.

There's already enough suggestions to create the poll. Has anyone ever wanted to make a bleach or dbz game?

Hey Bridget, welcome to RMXPUnlimited. If you need any support with your new RMXP feel free to make a topic. Hey you other guys, careful not to turn the intro topic into a chatty one, we want to set a good example for our new member :) By the way Bridget, I like your email address.

I'm glad you guys like the new updates. Hopefully there are many more to come, although I'm a bit worried time is going to leave me and the place will remain idle. This entry(and the next) was written over a couple of days, and is sort of like a log of notable changes. Not really blog-style entries, so I'll try and make them more interesting and ask questions to discuss in future entries.

Interesting entry Tomo.. You have a lot of ideas for projects. Goodluck with the girl. Thanks for the mention, though sorry I'm not as involved in the community as others..

Auto Welcome PMs This new modification automatically sends welcoming PM to members upon registration. The PM contains useful links to members' profile settings, rules and guidelines and the welcome forum. Website Javascript Fixed The javascript on the website has been broken for months, which has been a complete mystery to me why. There's a million tests I can do to narrow down the problem and nothing worked. By a little bit of luck I found out what was causing it. A module called GTranslate, which allowed the content of the site to be translated by Google, was causing the javascript to stop working. So the translate buttons are removed and the glorious javascript and cool website effects are back :) To see it action, or what I mean by javascript, hover over 'RMXP' or 'RMVX' in the main menu. The slide-down effects are created using javascript. Recent Blog Entries Hook A 'hook' is a little module that fits into one of the forum positions, usually the sidebar on the right-hand side of the forum. There's now a new one displaying recent blog entries. The purpose of this is to promote blog usage and also to get these entries a little more attention :P Downloads Manager Versioning Control Enabled Versioning control is allowing previous version of downloads to be saved. For example, upload a demo of a project. If you decide to update your demo, when you edit your file and upload the new file, the old one will be saved and available for download below the main download. I enabled this mainly for RGSS Scripts, in case a previous version is preferred, and generally to store file which may disappear from the net entirely. Here's an example with Guibids battle system: RGSS Script Archive Fixes & Updates A little while ago I updated the software that the RGSS Script Archives are made from, overwriting a modified CSS file in the process. I had to boot up my old computer to get the CSS file back from one of my offline test sites. The restored CSS file brings back the icon legend on the left side of category view. The icons serve two functions. 1st, showing the browser what the Script Item contains and 2nd, if the icons are clicked it will take you directly to that feature within the Item. Also on those pages, the old feature of author profile links, also shown below. It's not the best system, you see how it works is the author name of the Script Item is compared to the members Usernames on the forums. If there's a match, the author's name is linked, if not, then it's just plain text. The only flaw is that if someone registered with an identical username to one of our script authors, the author name will link to the wrong profile. The Archive Stats module has been re-created. The only visible changes are the content put into a table, but the coding has been done over to fit in with the website framework. The output is the same, but its much more efficient. The output is now php and html, where as before it was just printing variables. RGSS Script Archive Idea Okay guys, here's something for you to have your own input into. In the future all members will be able to submit content into the Scripts Archive using a simple form. The Scripts Archive will designed from authors forums topics using the common headers they use in forum posts. For example, Introduction, Features, Instructions, Screenshots etc. So therefore the RGSS Script Archive layout is designed to be more efficient than forum posts by displaying content sensibly and systematically. (convinced yet? :P ). So the idea is to change the User Submitted Scripts so you can only reply to topics, and not make them. After you submit the script, it gets added into the archive, AND a topic is automatically generated into the User Submitted Scripts forum. And therefor every Script Item has a link to a support topic, which is already a feature: This will fix up the biggest flaw in the scripts archive, no support. Would you guys like to see this idea implemented?

[Poll]Smilies smilies smilies!
Marked replied to Marked's topic in Feedback, Bug Report and Forum Help
Haha alright, but in a way that is nullifying your votes. This is just an indication, or perhaps i should say which smilies should have precedent. I may just add them all, but have the most popular ones at the top, and the rest hidden away unless you click 'show all'. -
Need your opinion on something for my game
Marked replied to miguel1's topic in General Game Development
I say use the script if it looks good and is more efficient. My only problem is that I think you shouldn't change your game just because you lack a certain skill. A skill can be developed and I think even uncreative people like myself can become good mappers with a little bit of patience. -
Hello all, This is a poll to create a new set of smilies. The current set is limited and a little boring, so it's time for you guys to choose your favorites so you can use these in your posts. Vote now. Choose your favorite similes only, you can vote for as many as you please.

Login Module Updates A 'My topics' link has been added to the default fields of the login module. The default fields are marked out in the image below. The Gallery and Blog links will only show up if the user has a blog or an album. If the user gets a new PM, a link will appear below the avatar and display how many new PMs the member has. Flash Uploader This is actually a default feature, the only reason it is hidden away is because it's not compatible with all browsers. When you attach files to your posts, this uploader will show a progress bar and kb's uploaded, as your files upload. It's far better than the default uploader, so I recommend you guys try it out. To enable it, go to: My Settings > General Settings > Posting Settings(shown below). Blog Header This fix arose because of making entries into this blog. The header(where the logo usually is) used to be a logo with a blue background, and no text. I altered the settings and changed the graphics to suit the current skin. Now in all your blogs you should see the logo with your blogs name and description. New Post Buttons I decided to change up post buttons from a previous skin we used to use(with a little color tweak). I think they fit in much better with the forum and make it look more professional.

Thanks to everyone who helped finding the links. In the end I queried the database for keywords of the broken links, and manually changed each one. I'm confident I found the majority of them. Your signatures will still contain broken links though, you may want to check. [closed]
