  1. Got my first criminal trial in 2 hours :D Actually it's a fake trial, but still.

Wow! Sounds so fun! Was it like what they show in movies?

Not at all lol it's far more boring than that, of course. Although it can be intense cross-examining the witnesses, but you can't roam around the court, you have to stand at your desk.

  2. The rules for this forum are: Or alternatively a game in the games section. Just post the link in this topic.
  3. We offer the following experience to all new members at GDU (you're the cat)
  4. I think promoting on social is a great tool because of the potential audience. If you're talking to someone in your industry with a bucketload of followers and they give you a mention back: your potential audience is huge. Personally I do struggle with using it though. I would prefer someone a lot more enthusiastic than me to manage the GDU twitter account, or any other non-personal account. Perhaps because if I want to say something I want to talk about issues, which can be negative. I also don't really like Enterbrain and haven't built a game in half a decade, which is sad :
  5. I've never read anything from there but I'm not surprised to hear that. In their early days I inquired on their facebook page whether they had some sort of alliance with one of the bigger RM sites because they were collaborating on content, and the admin of the FB came back with a whiny, defensive response. Clearly lacking in maturity. They gave those some kids a lot of resources, and as you say, they did kill off a lot of sites and changes the whole dynamic of our little market segment. We know what it was like back in the day, it was good. While I know that you have a particular talent in finding racism in the most innocuous of things, what you say above is pretty bad. We have descended over the years, but it has been 8 years and I'm proud to think that no one will ever say they faced that sort of issue on this site. I'm all objective like that. :P The best thing we can do is refer people to this site :) No assholes, no angsty pre-teen mods.
  6. Wise words Arky. I think we have to rule out Unity based on the rules/guidelines for the games. Unless Pol can make several playable maps in 72 hours. I think for the engine that XP through to Ace will not cause any problems because they're quite similar and one shouldn't provide any major advantage over the other in 72 hours. I certainly do not want restrict it to XP only. Ace is more popular than XP these days. Also, any of the engines can be easily downloaded. Ace is rather overpriced.
  7. I've got a sizeable update for GDU that's about 90% complete, but I won't have time to release for close to a month. Biz-e thymes.

think you can squeeze in a way to moderate the quotes? It really needs to be cleaned. Especially my own quotes, but that's probably just because I use it so much lol

that's not exactly high priority... but one day when im REALLY bored I'll look into it.

In my opinion moderating quotes doesn't seem something useful imo. Can't wait for the new updates :)

  8. What do you mean by that? Like editing sprites (or frankeinspriting?)
  9. I'm pretty sure it's been years since they posted new resources on the TKool blog. Everything changed when they started that angsty so-called official English site.
  10. Well 6 people indicated that would participate, but Pol wants Unity. Which is fair enough but going by the 3 very nice submissions we had last time, the judging could get awkward. Ideally the games need to be comparable. The trouble with last time is that we had someone make a rather large (relatively) game with gameplay, story, etc. An actual game. And another who made what was mostly a cutscene and a battle, which looked greated and ran told a story. The latter won but the games weren't exactly comparable and judging was far too subjective. Same thing would happy with RPG Maker plus Unity. The amount of effort it takes to create something in Unity takes much less time in RPG Maker. So if we do set it up, we put in some subtle constraints to push each game in the same sort of direction in terms of what is expected.
  11. I duno like... why do we want gender equality? Assuming a wide definition, I think two genders is appropriate.

    1. Bob423

      Bob423

Perfect equality is impossible. That's why communism doesn't work. If we can just stop being assholes and treat each other as if we were all equal, then that would be nice...but I guess life would be boring then, huh?

What I'm saying is that perfect equality isn't good. We don't need that. Or I should say that "equality" is the wrong label for it. But it's funny that extremist feminists have ruined feminism and transformed the word into purely negative connotations. Lol.

  12. I'm not sure if we'll get enough participants, so I attached a poll to the topic. If we get say 5 (assuming a few will drop out) then maybe we can get something rolling.
  13. So you need a bunch of animal sprites and want to run a contest... but the catch is that you will use the sprites?
  14. Lol. Classic Bob. That reminds me of this story.
  15. Chrome has been the number 1 browser for a few years and knocked Firefox off its pedestal. Which isn't overly surprising given the amount of resources Chrome had behind it... Firefox did an amazing job and not doubt facilitated the way for superior technology in terms of website capability and performance. Firefox have released a slew of new privacy features in it's latest version. A swing at Chrome perhaps? Not only are they differentiating from the competition but they're targeting user perception: We all know big bad Google is handsy when it comes to data collection. They still know what you're looking at even if you go incognito. But anywhere, here's what's new: Forget that: a feature that allows you to remove all data related to browsing over a certain time-frame. Private browsing (same as incognito) DuckDuckGo: A new search engine that doesn't track you There's also an internet/browser poll related to this topic. ^ up there.

  17. Welcome to GDU
  18. I can't view that link as it redirects me to the NZ version homepage. But it looks like a limited-time deal. You can trust godaddy, and it looks like they offer 1GB MySQL. I say go with them as they have everything you're going to need. Unlimited bandwidth is cool.... if this site turned over any money, I'd actually switch so I could offer better games hosting. Just a note on that however since you say you plan to have uploads. All cheap servers are shared servers. This means there is standard PHP settings for all servers that cannot be changed (they don't let you because it's shared). One of those settings is the size that can be uploaded per single file upload; therefore if you've got unlimited space but your max upload is 50mb (like ours) then your users can never upload greater than a 50mb file at one time... using php (which any application you install probably will). I haven't looked for ways around it but I suspect I'll find one if I try hard enough. eg an ajax uploader that breaks an upload into parts then it's combined server side. Anyway. 1GB DB space is pretty huge. GDU's DB is about 800mb I think, and we've got a ton of data; 80k posts and 22k users. Definitely nothing to worry about it; I could trim the DB of uneeded data a fair bit.
  19. Very excited for this year to be winding down. Less than 3 weeks and I'll qualify to be qualified (takes 4.5years full time work) and I'll be setting sailing for the equator (literally, it's near singapore).

  20. Thank you both for the feedback. I was ensure the default has more than 1 per row. I am still thinking about how to bring together new changes to the games section. I've learnt a fair bit but it can be challenging bringing it all together, changing inputs and outputs on a pretty complex system.
  21. I'd be interested to see if you can find a host that cheap. Costs around $10 annually for the .net domain alone. Could look into this one http://www.hostgator.com/ It's cheap and reliable.
  22. My car has been robbed twice this year. This time they smashed a window. Wtf.
