    Flash in Vx/Xp

Oh i see! In that sense then movies aren't really a bad idea :P. However you can adjust the zoom in rpg maker xp...and technically rotation (however through eventing you can only make a picture spin in circles i think, only through scripting can you adjust the rotation to a specific angle) and unfortunately those options can get laggy :( otherwise, sorry I am not sure there is a very good solution unless you feel like coughing out $10/$20 for a movie player script (which I think is kinda ridiculous, but I guess the guy put a lot of effort into it....)
  3. @stg: cool, I am not the only one then :P I want to actually make this in the end (primarily because I would find it very useful) as long as I can find a way to do it well while keeping it a free service. I wouldn't have it in me to charge people for something like this. google ad sense could be a good solution. @pol: that's another issue I have, I have used a lot of datebook solutions before but never remember to look at them...thus making them useless. And alarms sound like a good idea. The goal is really to make something that by default is useful, but also add some customization (seeing as everyone's memory works differently) so additional features like this would be great. Thanks for the responses guys :)
  4. My opinion on relationships is kind of negative, mainly because most people go about it the wrong way. In most relationships one party generally tries to assume some kind of control or ownership of the other person, and in doing so often attempts to shape the person to their liking. I believe this is the 100% wrong way to go about it. It should be more like a friendship. If you don't like/love the person for who they are, why are you in the relationship in the first place? They should be supportive of each others decisions, and they should be free to do what they want (obviously not cheat or things like that, but if they are doing that then why commit to a relationship? Unless it is an open relationship, which needs to be clarified BEFORE entering the relationship. Which is interesting because most mutually open relationships I have seen have worked out better, longer and they have tended to actually mess around with other people ALOT less than non-open relationships I have seen). Love on the other hand is something completely different. I think people look at love too much in the context of relationships (like marriage/girlfriend boyfriend) where the truth is, you DO NOT need to be with someone to love them. I love my friends MUCH MUCH more than any girlfriend I have ever had, and I still have my friends. Most of my ex girlfriends I am not even friends with anymore. Love itself is psychedelic I think. It's the best way to describe it. It isn't an emotion but rather a wide range of human emotion. As humans, whether we like it or not, NEED the full range of emotion. We need happiness, sadness, anger, etc. We live for it. And love itself is all these things. It makes us feel great but can also be our worst enemies; as you may have noticed (especially if you have ever experienced love) that there is a mixed feeling about love: it is amazing, but it hurts. It is beautiful, but it sucks. The reason it is so beautiful, is because there is so much emotion associated with it. So to put that in context (since most people probably associate the word psychedelic with drugs/trippy patterns/colours) So mind-manifesting, that would refer to emotion, thoughts, dreams, etc (well encompassing the entire psyche really) And isn't that what love is? (Me and my buddy came up with that definition when we were stoned one time, he mostly came to that conclusion, but it made so much sense to me, and still does. Although he probably would have been able to explain it better as he is much more elegant with the english language) And as another note: Love is very subjective, just by this topic alone we can see everyone has very different perspectives on what love is. So really, I think if you believe love exists, than it does, only to you. If you don't it doesn't, only to you. If you really think you are in love, even if you end up falling out of love; you were still in love. Another note: I have also heard (I think it was from a song) love being used in this context, the fact that love is a verb, it's a doing word. It is not defined by what we think or how we feel but rather what we do, and how we act. If you are willing to do anything for someone, than I think that is a form of love in itself. Sex? Although generally treated as something else, and something superficial can be a form of love, just more physical. Although, I would like to mention that I do not believe sex should be absolutely necessary for love to exist. Most relationships do require sex to work but I think those relationships are built on lust rather than love. Although, in a relationship when you love some one, for the most part you want to share that through sex (and usually the sex is different than the raw, lusty "i wanna get some" attitude)

    Flash in Vx/Xp

Well, I just found this topic that claims that you can play .avi movies by placing in the ME folder and playing the ME. I haven't tested it, or if it will work with XP as well but: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23326 you could convert the flash video to avi and play that way. I had seen another movie player script (still no flash support) but the writer was asking for 20$ or something for it (and judging by the comments it didn't seem to work very well) But if you don't mind me asking, is it absolutely necessary to put movies in your game? avi files can take up ridiculous amounts of space, and usually in games I just skip movies (if allowed) and if I can't skip I get bored. Just my personal opinion, but if I wanted to watch a movie I would go to youtube or something...or is it just an intro/ending movie kinda thing? That isn't too bad...but I always hated it when commercial games used excessive amvs (or whatever they were called) I would prefer rich dialogue and story development. EDIT: When making animations/movies in flash; can you export each frame as a '.png' file? If so you could just display each frame as a picture, changing every frame and mimic a movie...It probably wouldn't solve the size issue TOO much, but it could easily mimic a native movie player (in the game window) as well as easily give the player the option to press a button to skip the movie
  6. Hey there everyone! I am currently taking an Interactive User Design course in my college program, and our main project is basically to design an application (all on paper, no actual coding...however I may design this in the future, I think it would be useful for me) Anyways, onto the application. Intro As we all know, there are many calendar and datebook applications exist, however they generally only work if you remember to check them (which is something I do not do.) So this design is an attempt to create a calendar application that is not only easy to use and highly user friendly (I believe it should not be harder to set up a date book than it is to remember the date/appointment in the first place) as well as attempts to NOT LET YOU FORGET. Features How the application will work is by allowing the user to set up multiple notification types (through popular social networking, SMS/Text messages, e-mail, etc.) And will remind you on all services (if you choose to do so). There will be default tagging of Date types (so you can set multiple default settings) Location Tagging (integrated with google maps) So you can be reminded where to be. Confirmation of remembering appointment, you can confirm that you remembered the date so you can see whether you missed something. Discussion So, my question to you is: Is this something that you would find useful? What features do you think would be useful that I may have missed? Also, if you have the time please fill out this survey, I need about 25 responses for class. It's only 6 questions. If not I included a forum poll to still collect some extra data. Survey Thank you very much for your time, I appreciate it greatly. PS. If you are interested in reading the full project definition, you may here: Project Definition
  7. Yes. Yes yes. YES. (off topic, yes is a REALLY strangely spelled word when stared at too long :/) BUT back on topic, from what I have seen, IPB + Php frameworks have always worked fine and fast. (Though I have yet to learn much about databases/php, I can't wait for that part of web tech :D, right now we are just doing intro html which I already know D:) And interestingly, I have recently switched from Google Chrome to the new firefox, and I now shave easily 2+ seconds from rmxpu load time. (although it seems to load everything faster, and this is difficult for me to admit, being a google fanboy and all D:) I am sure you will be able to make user integration just fine, and cutting out 2 whole databases I can imagine would be better in more ways than just speed/efficiency. Can't wait :alright:

  9. I am assuming it is just a quick attempt at some cash before people start distributing this illegally. [/assumption] I probably shouldn't just assume like that, but I agree; considering Rpg Maker VX already had a pretty steep price (although I guess Rpg Maker XP had a pretty steep price once upon a time.) And I guess it's all perspective; I am a broke student so EVERYTHING is a pretty steep price to me :(
  10. I remember you mentioning this a while back and I got it! It seems really cool. Unfortunately I am way too addicted to Ruby script right now...

  13. Hahah, me and my friend were discussing the story + characters for our game and he told me this: "Making awesome main characters is easy. Just take Cloud's character and make them the exact opposite."

  14. they probably don't know... As for ash and 7 stories, both games fail to credit enterbrain ANYWHERE for the graphics, and it seems most places reviewing the games do not even realize where the graphics are from. I couldn't find much in terms of 7 stories, and I don't mean to go off topic but I just wanted to point this out: Only 3/28 Ash reviews even mentioned rpg maker, but 1 of them implied that the creators MADE the graphics and that they were "similar" to rpg maker. http://ifanzine.com/ash-review Another review claims that the graphics have been licensed from enterbrain http://gaming.icrontic.com/reviews/ash-for-iphone-review-a-shining-example-of-a-retro-16bit-styled-jrpg/ I am curious to know where they acquired that information. I wonder what will happen if enterbrain finds out about these...more specifically for 7 stories (considering it is currently hosted on the itunes market) I am assuming apple can't get into any legal trouble here... This is kind of upsetting though' date=' I can't understand why people think they can make a game using others people's graphics (and I don't mean things like if they have a artist creating custom graphics FOR the game) AND sell it. IMO, if you really want to make money off of a game it should be 100% original work. Otherwise, if you can't find a dedicated artist who is willing to make graphics for some profit from a game, either A) you didn't try hard enough or B) any people who has seen the game idea doesn't think it will sell enough to be worth helping. Which probably means your game idea isn't good enough to make money from or C) you should just make the game for fun/free. Maybe I am just a picky gamer, but it takes me a lot of research before I pay for any game. I would never buy a game if there is a completely free game that is better. (and I am not referring to pirating it, IMO if I wouldn't even think of buying it why would I waste hard drive space on a game I won't play) [/rant']

    pacman

No problem :) normally it would; however when in a parallel process, the event is processed at the same time as other events (well technically it doesn't happen at the exact same time, but close enough) so thus it simply waits that amount of time before that individual event processes the next command.
  17. Nice introduction, I like your sense of humour. I think we will get along :P But i would like to say: Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your time here. And if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. @marked: LOL I generally read things as they appear so your post sounded awesome in my head.

On the first page, keep everything the way you have it, except after giving the player money turn one of its self switches on and on the second page set its graphic to nothing, set it as a parallel process; then add the commands wait 600 frames, or 1200 frames if you are using smooth mode (regular mode runs at 20fps; smooth mode runs at 40 fps) then after the wait, turn the self switch off. Now each coin has a separate timer.

  22. That's awesome brewmeister! that helps alot. I was messing with just subtracting a circle area from the overlay...and while it works, it doesn't look very nice/smooth...using graphics to erase the black is a great idea, looks much nicer. I hope you guys don't mind if I use your bitmap sub method and rect overlap method, you will all be included in the credits. The sub method is more what i need albeit modified, I have almost got this working the way I want it! I fixed the parameters (so you only need to put what you want to change, and so it doesn't have to be lower case) and got the subtraction working pretty good.
  23. hmmmm actually I think I may have an idea for this! I am gonna play with this script a bit, make it a lil easier to use and post an update. (I think I will make parameters optional so you won't have to specify everything) I think if I make a new function for darkening the screen, and rather than changing the screen tone (as what that does is just blends different colors into the screen) I can probably draw a layer of black then wherever light is rendered, erase an circular area from the overlay. EDIT: @diagostimo: I can definitely add it so the player is a light source as well if you'd like.
  24. ooohhh i see! yea, this may not work with that. This script draws just a single light source, centered on the location. If you want to use the overlays the other modification I made for you would probably be better...which reminds me I totally forgot about fixing it up :sweatdrop: but if system architect takes any longer to load up I may have a few more scripts done rrrrr.
  25. I HATE YOU SYSTEM ARCHITECT. If you go any slower my homework will never be finished.
