  1. That is a communication service, they didn't list any of those. No ICQ, or MSN, or any of that, that's not relevant. But you're right it started in 1989 but has nothing to do with html, search engines or the other things shown here relating to the evolution of the web. AOL provided a service, they didn't change anything through innovation like the other companies mentioned. They simply provided a service using the internet.
  2. The title says it all. This blew my mind because I remember pretty much everything on this list as it happened. http://www.evolutionoftheweb.com/
  3. The future of gaming is through independent methods. Get ready to ride the wave indy developers, while it drowns out those cookie cutter unworthy commercial guys.

  4. Hey wouldn't it be great if someone actually made a documentary on independent video game making and focused on those that have succeed and are now known game names. Many of us might not even know some of our favorite games or recent popular releases were in fact of independent origin and innovative design. Well, look no further the movie came out on June 12th, it costs 9.99 for a permanent user license to watch it. When my ol' lady get's home I will be watching it with her. I will post back here with what I think. The trailer made me want to watch it, being a fan and following those games since conception and during their different troubles. Check it out. http://buy.indiegamethemovie.com/
  5. I found this article on Forbes.com, it's a little old, but speaks volumes of truth. Just thought I would link it here so people can see what the young bright minds at Forbes (a business related news company) think about independent development in video games. http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidewalt/2011/03/04/the-best-independent-video-games/
  6. I suppose in this hypothetical situation I would live in a country that actually has conscription(since I currently don't). And if I did when I would move to a country that didn't do that. I would gladly fight in a war I believed in or on my native land to fight for freedom. However conscription represents slavery and involuntary servitude, I am expressly against it.
  7. I completely understand. Luckily we are reaching a new age of independent media, and if you look into the Berne Convention (a legal act recognized by the majority of the free world) you will find your art is automatically copyrighted upon creation. Additionally many sites now exist where you can post your stuff for a more authentic rights acquisition. Examples of such are; Bandcamp.com - you can use this site to post and sell your music, they take a small percent of your sales, and allow you a place to host albums, and such. CreativeCommons.org - With 6 user generated license you can copyright free material you create to legally protect it's use for your intended method Jamendo.com - here you can post your open source (creative commons) music for use in independent products, tieing in your specific of the 6 licenses and allowing people to search based on that. A great way to get your name out there and/or use other independent musicians in your projects. Anyhow your music is great I listened to it while posting and when it ended I realized I forgot I was listening to it, perfect execution for intended effect. We here do not condone improper material use and I personally push for proper crediting of material in an all around manner. Glad to have you 'officially aboard'. I can and do vouch for his claims of successful payment for services rendered. Glad to have you here and I am sure your mapping services will be put to good use. -Cheers
  8. Haha, what are you psychic, or some sort of joker, heh. I actually run a shop here for that very purpose. I could likely test for you and have it done no later than next tuesday. Don't worry about paying the points. http://www.rmxpunlim...93-bon-testing/
  9. That's extremely interesting. It's really great to see people posting very futuristic type interfaces. These are the types of things we saw on Star Trek and other sci fi shows oh so many years ago. Pretty awesome Pol.
  10. I would love to and be honored. I am a much better editor than creative designer, and I myself always need 1 person minimum in order to create artistically. Ideas are free, I am always happy to share mine. If you ever get blocked you can personally message me or reply here. I am already starting to get a feel for the game, I think it would work well as a multi-path story. -Cheers!
  11. Maybe I am being picky, but I think it has too many spaces still. Stylizing is very important when writing and posting forum threads. Don't be sorry, I learned it, you can too, and I am by no means perfect at it. In any case it is much more manageable now, I can actually see one whole character at a time. Here is what I would have posted it as, now I can see all three characters on my screen at one time, and it's concise and clear. So here are my opinions. That part I underlined is not as sneaky as you think, that definitely gives away your last clincher, avoid telling people that. Good ending though, I think if you make sure to string people long enough it will be a surprise. That one line gave it away to me, but I see most commercial plots a mile away, so I think you have a good story here. The whole aura, sixth sense and using the color blue and guilt, is awesome man. I don't know if you grabbed that from somewhere or were inspired from other media, but that seems very well thought out, enough to be professionally written, in my humble opinion. The whole 'laundry man' thing, that's memorable, and excellent sci fi use in my opinion. Honestly, I don't know what else to say, you seem to have a really good world developing here. I was going to gripe about the amnesia but since he has four minutes to live, I can't really complain, it's more a necessary plot device rather than a cliche. I would say keep rolling with it, if you get stuck on specifics I would be happy to try and help. But this world leaves me wanting more of what you write, rather than making me want to add to it, which is good and rare when I read independent stuff. I have zero complaints, it reminds me of the amazing movie Memento, keep writing this.
  12. For whatever reason when you copy stuff from text programs and other places it can add spacing you didn't intend. When this happens you should edit your posts to make them easier to read. Would you be so kind as to edit your post to remove the extra spacing, it is extremely hard to read and even harder to post a quoted reply to address the things you mentioned. I like your stuff and would love to comment etc, but I feel it shouldn't take two to three times longer than necessary on my end. Thanks in advance!
  13. Introduction Bon Ink Creations is my video game development and publishing company. Our focus is on publishing independent game development teams, and developing our own games internally. We are only live a few months, but have been in the works for just under 2 years from this post. Our official website went live this June and we are working towards publishing our first outside developed game, as well as conceptual design into our first in house title. We are primarily recruited out of RMXPU for both staff and development teams, and we intend to keep things that way for the time being. The reason I write this post now is that it has become apparent that we need people dedicated to individual tasks so that work can flow more efficiently. Specifically we are in current need for a person who has the talent necessary to create promotional videos of the games we develop and publish. So if you believe this may be you, then please read on for details. Job Parameters Posting*: June 28 - July 12 Title: Audio-Visual Technician Pay: $5 USD per request to start Scope: long term, on call, 1-2 week deadlines Requirements: owned software for video editing Skills: Ability to; use image manipulation programs use own video editing software add audio to video follow a storyboard guide for video creation create an overall impactful and enjoyable promotional video for a video game Work Detail: You will initially only be responsible for the labor aspects of video creation. We can also provide the game in question for playing in order to get a better feel if needed. We currently require 1 video made, with at least 2 more up coming in the near future for the same project. As you work with us should you wish for more responsibility, in the future a job promotion can be given to allow more pay as well as more freedom on video creation. 14. I was thinking the same thing too. We need more info, if they are custom, or if it's ok to use other stuff edited etc.
  15. Hey welcome back mate. I recognize your name. Awesome to have a pixel animator here, that's is a great re-addition for sure. Don't worry about being super active, be here as much as is fun for you. Nice meeting you, see you on the forums! -Cheers!
  16. Would you be able to post the image directly into your thread? It's much more convenient that way for people trying to help. I don't believe I have the knowledge to help, but if people could easily look at your thread and see the picture they will be more likely to post a reply. Just upload the pic to an image hosting site, like photobucket, or imageshack, and then post the link they give you in your thread with image tags around it. [img=mypicturelink.com]
  17. I don't think you are quite looking for a partner per se. I think you more just need an artist to do some work for you. If you were able to post here with some more detail as to what you need, we have quite a few spriters here on the site, with a list I believe you could likely get them all done by different people, still match and be quicker than using a single artist. It may be easier to get a list of what you need, post it here, and get help as you go. A whole games worth of sprites could be allot.
  18. Here is a link you may be able to use in the mean time. Post here when you have the files so I can remove the link please. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/49878392/tankentai%20sbs%20%2B%20full%20english-by%20KrayZ.exe

  20. Kevin.ds can I have your brain for scientific study into artistic development after you die? Your creative style leaves me of all people for a lose of words to perfectly describe it's (blankness). My desktop looks like I just grabbed my computer from the display stand at staples 15 years ago. Yours looks like the @#$%ing command console display for a #$% damned Klingon Bird of Prey. You deserve a +1 rep for a badass display interface like that on your computer, so I gave ya one. I would post mine but heck I'd be embarrassed to have wasted the print screen button pressing time, let alone the rest of the worlds viewing time. Great stuff Kevin.ds you're a #$%ing visionary.
  21. Hmm. So your desired effect is that the character is changed to their 'shaded' graphic while on tiles that have the shaded graphic, correct? I am wondering, does your characters graphic not change to a 'shaded' version automatically by being 'underneath' the layer that the 'shadow' is on? Or are you simply wishing to use a 'more shaded' version of a graphic when in shaded areas? I only ask to better understand what your end result is intended to be so that I can try and suggest the best method. I think you should be able to achieve your effect with no events or scripts, but I could be wrong.
  22. Hey there, welcome to the forums. Your introductory post leaves much to the imagination. Glad to have you here, hope you find what you're looking for from our community. -Cheers!
  23. We are glad to have you here. And if you didn't have the answer then it wasn't a stupid question, not everyone learns the same way. Welcome, and take a look around you may find some awesome tutorials on the site. -Cheers!
  24. I tried to grab that one and edit it, but the quality was too bad. If you post the original for download, I can try and go over it and edit it to look 'better' and then tell you what I did. I am not a good spriter but a pretty good editor, and I think I could change that. But for the sake of it this is what I think I would try first. Move the eyes up 1 pixel, add a mouth (1-4 pixels long/wide, 1 pixel tall) and maybe a 1-2 pixel nose (likely not noses rarely look good in my opinion). The ears as decent but the shape of the head is making them appear to droop. I would suggest maybe try rounding the head a bit, it seems a touch too oval maybe to 'fix' the eyes and ears. But with all that said, the sprite itself rocks, and as a stand alone is a great monk, or like beach dude or something. But you're right as a template it needs work to be more versatile I believe. Either post the download so I can give it a go and tell you what I think, or try the things I mentioned, in either case what you have is an amazing start in my opinion, especially since it's from scratch.
