[XP] How to make an RMXP Expansion Pack
EmilyAnnCoons replied to EmilyAnnCoons's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Tutorials
Yeap. I actually followed thr process, then wrote it. I wanted to make sure that it worked first...also, this can be followed to make a "prequel" to the game if you want...just lower the min level and increase such, then move the start location/starting teleport (in case you're like me and have a menu and a tutorial at the beginning, and thus have the teleport event taking you to the true first map) -

[XP] How to make an RMXP Expansion Pack
EmilyAnnCoons replied to EmilyAnnCoons's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Tutorials
Thanks. I spent a lot of work on it...you know, I actually had to make sure you could do it too...you can, if you don't delete any of your old maps... -
If you mean a version that isn't v0.6, then it's not done yet...the site has the most up-to-date mode07 script...so...my guess is that that script IS the complete version
-
agreed, what is mode07?
-
Could be possible, with the right amount of scripting...would be EXTREMELY hard, though...you'd have to get a mouse input script, along with a whole bunch of other stuff...so...you could, but I doubt it would be compatible with much else...

I took a Tung Soo Do class once...didn't go back...to me, martial arts are pretty much useless -shrugs- oh well...

hehe, awesome! Can't wait for us to reach 2000 posts... -ponders making up a contest to celebrate it when we reach it- drat...it might be sooner then I can think ><

Very nice, good for anyone making a Zelda gmae where you have to sneak past guards (like an OoT remake or something)

Ok, so, you've made a game, but afterwards, your sitting there going "I could expand on this some more...but how?" Well, this tutorial will show you how to do it. This is a tutorial on how to make an expansion pack to your game. Truthfully, there's nothing to it. Just do the following steps (note: I have a windows computer, so if you are using a mac, I don't know how to do it...I also don't know if RMXP works on macs or not, but who knows...): (all screenshots can be found here They are labeled as "expansion_tut") 1. Go to the drive/folder where your previous game is held. For example purposes, let's use D:\Games E\RPGXP\RMXP Games 2. Right-click and do a "create new folder" 3. Name it something appropriate for this example we'll use "CoC_Expansion" 4. Go to your original games folder, select all of it, and right-click and do a copy. 5. Go to the new folder, right-click and do a "paste" then wait for the copy procedure to finish 6. Open the game with RMXP 7. Go into the Game tab and do "Change Name" In this example, we will change the name to "CoC Expansion" 8. Now open the "Tools" tab and open the Database. 9. Find all your main heroes and increase the max level (in this case, we increase it from 60 to 99) (These next two steps need only be followed if you want the game to continue on another map you haven't made yet, if not, then follow the alternate ones below) 10. Next, make a new map, call it whatever (in this case, it shall be Limbo) 11. Lastly, go to your last level and change the final teleport event that takes you to the ending credits, and change it to the new map. (These are the alternate steps 10 and 11) 10. Next, find one of your old maps you want to resend your character to. 11. Lastly, go to your last level and change the final teleport event that takes you to the ending credits, and change it to the map you chose. That's it! You have now begun the expansion pack work. You should, from there, be able to figure out everything by yourself...you must have to have finished your game in the first place (you're just going back to work on the game again, basically). Remember the following expansion pack rules: 1. The expansion pack must include new features (level cap increase, better weapons, etc.) 2. It is recommended you add more to the previous sections of the game, just so the player has more to do, as they will need to remake their save file anyway 3. New scripts are always a good way of changing the game some for the expansion. 4. The game must continue for at least one more boss, though 2 or 3 is recommended. In other words, an expansion can't be a new ending sequence...that's just dumb... 5. DO NOT delete maps that are not in use in the expansion (like, if you continue the story by adding 10 maps to the end, but don't touch the previous maps, don't delete them, or you will screw it all up). With that kept in mind, have fun! The install process for an expansion: The player must simply install the expansion into the same folder as the original game, just like all expansions do normally. (Thus, if the original folder is CoC_v2, usually you must copy it into that folder, thus creating the expansion.)

Pig Puzzles - An Experiment
EmilyAnnCoons replied to Zeriab's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Tutorials
Very cool...I'll have to figure out how it works exactly (I see the setting the thing to 0 part so...I just gotta figure out how to do that, exactly) and I might use it... -
I'll let you know...first,t hough, I have to decide if I want to keep going with my current storyline, as someone just poited out to me the storyline has been done about a million times now...not to mention I'm stuck cause they have 4 of 7 keys, and it's still the first chapter of the game ><
-
Ahh, ok, well, the loading bar would be so people don't stare at blank when they load the game...it'll actually say how long until the game is loaded, then, finally, will load up...right now I'm having problems with it taking about 20-30 seconds to go from blank screen to loaded up, so it looks like its crashed...
-
heh...yeah...all I know is I've gotten MUCH more help here and RMXP Underground in the last 2 days then EVER in the whole time I've been on CA (that's sad, figuring...)
-
-nods- yeah, that's true (about the mod thing)...CA does kinda suck now...cause I just posted my JOH: KtD thing on another site, and got 5 responses, but on CA I have nearly 100 views (i think) and 0 responses...what the crap is that? I mean...100 people can't take time out to say "cool" or "It's crap!" or something?
-
haha, that is true. They could use better staff, but I doubt you'd want me as a full fledged mod... I sometimes have trouble trying to decide if someone is breaking a rule or not...

Cogwheel's Pixel Movement
EmilyAnnCoons replied to EmilyAnnCoons's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Scripts (RGSS1)
agreed...also, the move system for the other one is a lot harder, cause you can't use the "set move route" anymore...so...that's another reason not to like it...all in all...I prefer this one over the Zpassability one... -
-nods- grammar is a HUGE thing for me...not to be mean to those who aren't "english professors" (sort of speak) but still...I'm no professor myself, but I work my hardest to type write...some people just don't care...which is why I have the stop chat/1337 speak banner in my sig. Also, most people who start using RMXP never finish a project...CA is becoming a large pot of half-done projects...
-
-nods- cool...but really all I'd need is a load bar...I don't suppose you can make one?

Cogwheel's Pixel Movement
EmilyAnnCoons replied to EmilyAnnCoons's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Scripts (RGSS1)
Well, the other one is cooler, in that you don't get squares where you can't walk...you get actual pixel-by-pixel movement...just you can't do crap cause of the fact that it takes hours to make tilesets that work with the system... -
Cogwheel's Pixel Movement
EmilyAnnCoons replied to EmilyAnnCoons's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Scripts (RGSS1)
Sadly, no...if the other one didn't take so much work, I'd just use it instead...but it's WAY too much work >< So...I stick with this...it's better anyway... -
Cogwheel's Pixel Movement
EmilyAnnCoons replied to EmilyAnnCoons's topic in Archived RPG Maker XP Scripts (RGSS1)
Yeah, it's the same one...it's not the Zpassability script, but it still works just as good...it's a lot easier to work with, that's for sure... -
I just got done watching Advent Children. Nanaki is cool ^^
