alright, here's your script to show popups: link instructions are inside. it shows up above the event, tough, not on top of the screen, cause I'm also using this script, in my own project, to show damage above an event during 'on-map-battle'. Hopefully it's not a problem. oh, I forgot to mention it in the instructions, but you can set how much time the popup stays on-screen by setting POPUP_DURATION (it's right below the instructions). it's 50 frames by default (20 frames = 1 second).

there's a button saying materialBase, (in the top bar of RMXP) click it, and it'll show all the pictures/sounds in the game. select a category (I think you mean Icons), and click Import. select your item-icon image from your PC. then simply find your item in the Database, and select the icon from the list.

ah, so many interesting scripts to do. so little time. I'll give it a go, once I finish my current script. if I get stuck or it takes too long, I'll leave this to someone else. edit: sorry, I forgot to say, I mean the popup-script request.

if you become a dentist, please be gentle ;) I won't tell you what to choose, cause I think the only one who can answer this question is you. whatever path you choose, work hard on it and become the best :)

try this script. there are other scripts that do that, like Cocoa's UMS.

idk if this is the place to post story-line ideas, but.. what does anyone think about this 'game goal'? the game's main-goal will be to build a "nation" that'll claim a certain territory, and clean it from criminals, make it more livable, etc. the leader can be a former military man, or it can be funny if it's the last surviving member of the English Royal family, or something (which would be all high and mighty, and be horrified by how people currently live, in their once flourishing 'kingdom') ... is flourishing a word?

now you made me curious to play your game. can you link to it?

here's a random example. use many different heights- it makes an interesting map. as long as there are enough cliffs blocking the path, the map shouldn't be too open. you can add houses 'built into' the cliffs here and there. if some houses are on tree-tops, use a cliff of the same height, and connect them by a bridge.

which language should I learn?
Metaclaw replied to Metaclaw's topic in Programming & Web Development
@Marked - no, not really. but I may decide to make a game / game engine eventually @Omar, I started learning Java, but it was a long time ago. it's useful to make windows/button/menus, right? I heard it's good to make games, too. and JavaScript can be used for inernet pages, and it's the same syntax.. right? it may be a good language to learn. do you know if Java 'forces' you to use pointers? and does it have a simple syntax? does it have built-in classes/methods to do complicated stuff, like showing animation, playing music, downloading files, doing visual effects on a picture, etc? -
hello! I'm looking for a new programming language to learn, beside Ruby. what do you recommend? I'm looking for a language with a "simple" syntax. I'm inlove in the way Ruby does things, how simple and read-able its syntax is, how it doesn't force you to mess with pointers or convert one type of data to another one, etc. I've heard Python and Pearl are also like that, and also very "powerful": like, it takes only 1 line of code to copy something to the clipboard, download a file from the internet, etc. are they considered better than Ruby? I'm assuming I'll need to install something to run programs made with those languages, but whatever. I can't be bothered with the likes of c++, and how long it takes to do the simplest of tasks. besides, some c# and c++ programs tend to make Avast antivirus/AVG antivirus go WILD and claim they're a virus, for no reason -- those anti-virus programs are just being lazy/dumb. major DO NOT WANT here. this doesn't happen in other languages as far as I know.

welcome~ looking forward to see what game you'll end up making :) if you have any specific questions about scripting, go ahead and post them in the forum, so we can help.

thanks bob ^^ I like your idea a lot, but I gotta vote for pot-apocalyptic steam punk. /shamelessly votes for self
-
lol, you guys. democracy is overrated, anyway. but don't vote Obama. *psst* he's secretly a Muslim it's amazing how much I know about US politics, considering I don't live there XD but with arguments like this are all over the internet, it's no wonder.
-
can you add the new setting suggestions to the voting, please? (black mage's and mine)
-
lol, go Eddie
-
^ this. you can use a character-set with an arrow in all 4 directions, and set it to 'stop animation' so it flashes or goes up and down, so the player won't miss it.
-
alright, I suggest a medieval-times-magic setting, steam-punk setting. a futuristic steam-punk style, in a post apocalyptic world. yeah, that sounds random enough.

congratulations, and good luck :)

um, I don't know what to vote for.. sadly, I don't like the idea of a post-apocalyptic /space-exploring game. a 'space-exploring' setting usually means the player is found, 99% of the time, inside a spaceship. everything in a spaceship is metallic/gray.. gray walls, gray floors, gray everything. the rooms/corridors are empty except maybe a control panel and a chair. when/if the player goes outside, they go into a 'new planet', with weird landscape, and weird-looking aliens, etc. the final result is a game that simply isn't visually-appealing. (can you tell I'm a Graphic Designer XD ) beside that, I personally find it depressing to be stuck inside a spaceship, surrounded by empty space. and it doesn't help that the human society is usually going extinct, for whatever reason.. I enjoy light-heart'ed games, with nature and sunlight, magic powers, mysteries, and a group of friends going on an adventure. not disasters, extinction, despair, etc -- cause I think we have enough of those in real-life. is it ok for me to suggest another idea ? idk how popular my pre-historic idea is, and I want us to have more options to choose from. there are many themes that weren't mentioned, like the classic medieval-times-magic-theme, a multi-player online game of some sort, a puzzle-solving game, or a game where your goal is to solve a mystery, sherlock-holmes-style, or even a fan-game of some popular TV show (Doctor Who for example)

can we vote for our own idea? :o even though I might vote for yours. I like the idea of using the same idea as an older forum project.
-
omg, what have you been listening to ? I can't believe you're blaming yourself.. please say you're joking
-
this feature already exists in the newer version. thank you for the input :)
-
yeah, this site has all the potential, we just need to tell people about it. maybe we can team up and advertise on other sites. like, if someone made resources, they can post a topic about them, but link people to download them from here. or, post their finished game there, and add a link to their game-topic here. we can also make banners and add them to our signatures on other forums. something listing the site's features: get your own game page, chat, or join us in making a community game, at GDU. if downloads can be made only available to members, it may help.. or it'll just annoy people. either or ;)
-
that was a quick fix :) thanks, and hopefully I didn't sound too harsh. eventually I did find that tree, and then the characters were talking, and there was a bit of a plot there, I actually started enjoying the game.

what's the deal with a FP14 mascot? are we looking for a character to be a mascot for the project?
