That article refers to roms as a generalization (i.e old consoles where the companies have gone bankrupt). I would also like to quote this, from the article "However, in the U.S. it has been illegal since 1983 for a user to create their own backups of video game ROMs onto other cartridges"

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but.... Downloading any commercial rom is illegal, regardless of whether you own the game or not, although nintendo is not going to come knocking on your door if you do download roms. Rom dumpers used to dump the original games have been officially made illegal by a court case sometime in the past (I can't remember when it was exactly) and it also ruled that rom images created by the dumpers were also illegal. Therefore, because these roms would have been dumped with such devices, any commercial rom you find on the internet IS illegal. The only legal roms are homebrew roms. Also, Nintendo recently filed a patent for emulators that emulate their consoles and it has been officially "ok-d". So in other words, that pretty much makes any manufacturer of a non-authorized Nintendo emulator liable for infringement charges. Even though all that sounds very nasty, Nintendo does not go after people who download roms, they mainly target commercial sites that are selling them.

Unfortunately, I can't really afford any new software now. Anyways, even in most web editors, the page still is not centered properly in the browser.

I'm not sure how many of you know this, but RMXP Pool is going to be moving hosts very soon. As such, I am currently working on a custom website for pool. I'm currently using MWord to create my pages because none of the web editors I have tried are able to make the web page fit the screen. Anyway, I have a template for pages on the site here (the document is also attached to this post): The problem is, whenever I export my document to HTML or MHTML, the page is always cut off at the top, even if you are using Internet Explorer. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Thanks. PS: The document itself is attached, if that helps. PPS: I know the tabs are a line below where they should be. I'll fix that later. RMXP Utilities - Complete Overhaul
evil cabbage replied to evil cabbage's topic in General Game Development
I tried to do that a while ago with a program called RMXP Lunchbox. The problem is though, by putting all the apps in one program, I couldn't really include all the apps that I would necessarily want to, as if you chose to create one program, that program must serve a specific purpose, however if you create multiple programs, then these programs can have completely separate purposes and therefore not be illogical to each other, as is the case of RMXP Lunchbox. To better illustrate what I am saying, I will use Windowskin Maker as an example. RMXP Lunchbox was a program that was an application that was designed in order to allow the user to plan out everything in their project without even touching RMXP. Upon creating a new project, the user would go through a step-by-step process in which they would carefully plan, make and package their game. Because of the fact that RMXP Lunchbox was a tool to plan, mainly whereas Windowskin Maker was an app used to make resources, the two would not logically fit together. Basically, to cut the long description, what I am trying to say is that the diversity of purposes of the programs which I am creating is too broad to package into a single program that would not seem illogical and confusing to the end user. -
RMXP Utilities - Complete Overhaul
evil cabbage replied to evil cabbage's topic in General Game Development
Thanks guys. One thing though, as I am releasing the source code, I will probably be releasing my apps on forums other than RMXP Unlimited. I know that originally they were supposed to be RMXPU exclusive, but I feel other RMXP-ers should have the right to make use of them. and anyway, someone is bound to leak the programs to another site at some point anyway. -
Hello again everyone. I am making an announcement about a new project that I am developing with my RMXP utilities. I have decided to not only recreate and vastly improve my current library of utilities, but this new batch will also include a bunch of new utilities and a console software to flip between them, update them and download new utilities quickly and easily. Proposed Changes to Current Utilites (based on feedback I have gotten from users). Pmay lease note that these are "hopes" and may not make the final products. Storyline Planner: >More options for each plot point. >The abilitiy to link plot points together >The ability to create non-linear storylines >The ability to import SP1 projects >The ability to print your storyline >The ability to export your storyline as an RTF document. Windowskin Maker: >I am hoping to include a library of resources with the program >Required dimensions for aspects of the skin displayed on screen >Export your skin to multiple formats with transparency. Character Planner: >Removing the .INI that is displayed at the end of every character's name >Allowing for multiple versions of characters. >The ability to printout an overview of your characters. >Making the entire interface reside on one screen Name Generator: >MORE NAMES!!! >Ability to minimize the program to the tray and to generate names and copy them to the clipboard simply by selecting an option from the tray icon popup menu Broken Messiah's Request: >Transform this into a batch image manipulation program >Speed up the saving time Project Organizer: >Ability to manage VX projects >Ability to scan your computer for XP/VX projects. >Having all the operations available on one screen. >Having a tray icon version which allows you to edit/play projects by simply selecting the project from a popup menu Project Updater: >Nothing at the moment, as this is relatively new. Proposed New Applications: (NOTE that apps with a "*" indicate apps I will require help with.) Environment Planner: >Like the other planning apps, just for environments. >Tips to achieve certain moods ingame. RMXP Briefcase: >The idea of this is to be a utility to help people who are building an RMXP game to work together more easily. >It will include a special type of IM program in which you can share resources which are dpownloaded directly into specified project folders for others to use. >It may also help devs to set realistic goals for their projects. Advanced Scripting Station (Bad Acronym Intended) * >NOTE: I hardly know anything about scripting so I will pretty much need to be constantly guided by an experienced scripter. RMXP Character Shop: * >Will require a lot of rips and custom resources >Will allow you to create custom charsets for RMXP. >Allows the user to batch export one character design in different outfits at once. >Allows the user to import their own custom resources. Tileset Packager: * >I will need help if this utility is to come with custom resources. >Will basically allow you to easily assemble a tileset from images you already have. Advanced RMXP Project Creator. >Allows you to create RMXP Projects with things like: >>A clear database >>Certain battle/map systems pre-installed into the project. >>RGSS dlls being added automatically Proposed Changes across the Board that will Affect all Apps: >A new graphical UI >Easier to use interfaces >All the new apps will be completely open source (under a creative commons licence). I have already started work on Storyline Planner V2. Here is a screenshot taken from within Multimedia Fusion itself: So, what do you guys think of this rehash idea, the new designs and the new apps?

Finally found the source. Here are the dimensions: (WidthxHeight) Background: 197x96 Cursor: 32x32 Battle Arrow 1/2: 32x32 Map Arrow: 14x9
-
Look to be honest, I'll come out plain with you....... I can't tell you the dimensions you require because I have lost the original source code. I'll have a detailed search and see if I can find it.

It all really depends on the image itself. The thing is though, even if your resized your image with an image editor, it would still compromise the quality of the original image. When an image is resized, the amount of pixels forming the image is greatly reduced, therefore resizing an image will always degrade it's quality, no matter what program you choose to do it with.
-
The images are resized automatically

You do, yes.

This was actually my second RMXP Utilitiy. I'm actually on my 7th one now. If you want to browse through them all, just scavenge around in the Tools and Utilities board.
-
@CrimsonInferno Lol, no it does not have viruses on it. I'm not nearly that advanced.
-
This is my 7th RMXP Utility - you guys really should surgically remove me from this computer. To begin with, this is a little different to my other utilities, in that it can be used with any project - it does not have to be an RMXP project and also, there is no application that you use to create something, this is merely a pre-made application which you copy/paste into your project folder and configure to suit your needs. Basically, it is a stub auto-updater for games and programs. It works by comparing the current version of the game (stored in an .ini file) to one on your website or server (which contains the version number of the newest version.) If these versions are different, then an update process will start. Once this happens, a .zip file is downloaded (which you specify) and it's contents are extracted into the same directory as the updater (the root folder of your game). You are also able to change the splash screen that is shown during the update process. Sorry if that explanation was a little confusing, but there is a manual and a demo included in the download. DOWNLOAD HERE PS: You may use and redistribute this program in any medium you like, as long as you do not reverse engineer the program.

Hi guys, this is something I just discovered: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com It appears to be an English official site for the RPG Maker series that has been created by Enterbrain. I think it's good that all the products have been placed on one really good site now, rather than the seperate ones what do you guys think of the site?

[DEVELOPMENT - XP] Doctor Who - The Time War RPG
evil cabbage replied to evil cabbage's topic in Early in Development
Lol, I know it's kind of bad. I doubt that I will ever actually be making this now as, A.) This game would require WAY too many custom resources. The stuff does not already exist on the net, so would need a huge team to do this. This game would only really continue if there was some sort of miracle if you had to look at it in the harshest possible way B.) The original purpose of this game was to make something better than the awful Doctor Who: Top Trumps game - I think a few guys on forums can make a better game than that, but now the BBC have released a better one, it's called Doctor Who: The Adventure Games (and I can't download it because I'm from Australia.) I probably will still end up making a game, just something with a more original concept! -
*JOKES KIRIASHI* Hang on guys, we live in a democratic society - Kiriashi has the right to an unfair trial. (How many crimes can I charge Kiriashi for?) Offences Commited: >Copyright Infringement Your avatar is included in the default set of avatars on RMXPU, therefore making the owner of the avatar the guy who made it and there is no evidence to suggest that you obtained his permission to use it. >Indecent Exposure Removing your hat >Vulgar Language Using the w word on your caption >Attempted Murder Being behind people with a weapon, attempting to murder them (alexlee0092) >Hostage Holding JoKo at gunpoint for the use of his closet >Heresy Using a Mac >Negligence A dog should not be allowed to use a computer >Unlawful Manipulation Creating a dangerous cult following But...... Kiriashi is NOT GUILTY Conclusion: MEGA LOL. While it is against the forum rules to flame and discuss warez, IT IS NOT illegal on these forums to: >Attempt the Murder of Another Member >Kidnap >Subconsciously Manipulate >Use a mac instead of windows >Use minor vulgar language >Have an avatar infringing copyright. Therefore, Kiriashi must be released with no punishment. Sanctions: None. He will be compensated with an icecream: But I did mention that this was an unfair trial...... He won't be banned, he will just be restricted from posting, viewing the site or logging in. See Kiriashi? Justice has served, you will not be banned, just blocked from visiting the site.

Yeah, I would recommend MMF over Game Maker. MMF Developer is what I use to make my apps, so I may be able to help you in some areas.
-
I used to use GameMaker when I was quite young. It was actually the first game making program I ever used. It's quite good for simple stuff, but there are better engines if you don't want such a steep learning curve for pro stuff.

Reward: Break your back and be completely crippled for life. Quest: Make an Oblivion machinima worse than this: PS: This was my first (and last) attempt at making..... "something" in a machinima.

I have both FPS Creator X9 and X10 and I like them both, but I don't love them. About not having control over your game, you can have whatever you want in your game, but you need to learn a bit of FPI scripting first.
