  1. Honestly, i dont' remember why i left that line in. I guess i didn't want to have a user submit me a game, and then i can't use it because it's protected by a password or something. i guess i also wanted to make sure if they used any scripts, they gave credit and not claimed them as their own. part of my judging method was going to be analyzing how the game was made and determining did the user use the maps wisely, or just remake maps over and over again for every event that was needed. but if i'm going to get a fuss over that small fact, i guess judging will be limited, and not thorough. Darn.
  2. though i doubt anyone noticed i was missing, but life got in the way and i couldn't keep up with this site anymore, so for the last year or so, i've been busy keeping up with life and basically ignoring this. i have returned though, and i will try my best this time to bring a game that i want to make, and others will enjoy. to keep the stress level down though, i'll only be using the default tilesets used in the engine of my choice. i'm trying to decide between XP and VX (i do have both.) There are more features in XP i like a lot, but VX has a much easier mapping system, which will definitly save me time. i might go with VX, because of the extra features, and i can show who's talking by a face and not by name. It will be awhile before i have a game to show, but i will hope to give updates on it as i make it.
  3. the last time i tried to make this contest work, it failed because we couldn't decide on a date to start, and many people simply forgot about it or never saw it. So i would like to try again with this contest, and this time the start date is fully up to all of us. i will not enforce a start date this time, and maybe we can agree and get this contest going this time. to save time, i've copied and pasted my original post i made last year around this time. Yes i've been out awhile, because of life. but for now, i am coming back to try and get involved again, and eventually make my own game and showcase it here. In the past we’ve seen contests where people have proposed to make a game in a day or a week with some if any restrictions. I’ve come up with a new idea on this: 1 month to create the best game you can. Eventing, scripting, the works, all finished. To add a challenge, I’ve come up with the following rules and restrictions: Engine: You can use either RPG Maker XP, or VX. Characters, sprites, tilesets, etc.: You can use default tilesets that came with either engine, or you can make your own. However, should you decide use custom tilesets, 1. If you are not the author of the tilesets, you must give full credit to the original author of the tilesets. If you got them from this site and an author is not listed, stating you got them from gdunlimited.net is acceptable. 2. If you are the original author of the tilesets, you are allowed to finish incomplete tilesets for this contest. You can also start making tilesets for this contest ahead of time, but ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE DECLARED YOU WILL COMPETE. Storyline: Story must be complete. After all, you can’t have an RPG without a story. No to be continued, it must be a complete story from beginning to end. Winner and prizes: Winner will be determined by several factors, including: Creativity Originality Use of Maps effectively Use of scripts (if custom scripts are used) Storyline When we decide on a start date, i'll post it in this post, or i'll make a new one. Send submissions to me via pm. i recommend using mediafire, or another filehost to send me the game files. No password protected zip files please. Judges: Railfan101 Competitors: Good luck to all of you. (If any of the above rules are unfair, such as the map limit, or the rules under the characters, tilesets title, please let me know, and I’ll consider making them more fair. However, I won’t change a rule if I feel it’ll make the challenge too easy.)
  4. So no one decided to do anything for this. Serves me right for trying anything at all.
  5. We are 1 month away from this contest starting, and i would like to announce a new idea i've thought of. Sometime in the next two or three weeks, i would like everyone who's participating in the contest to give a brief pitch of their story idea you plan on creating for this contest. For those who don't know, a pitch usually is supposed to give an idea of what the idea is, and nothing more. Pitches are designed to just get the listener interested, then if they're interested, they will ask for more information. Therefore, your pitch should be 3 sentences max. Now, please understand, I'm asking this so the community can help improve your idea should you want us to help. Deciding whether to pitch or not won't change your status in the contest, you'd just be missing out on an opportunity to allow your idea for improvement.
  6. I appreciate that, but for now, i don't need a third person. Two people as judges are fine considering the amount of participants which are currently signed up. if more people sign up, then i'll ask you again. thanks for your offer though.
  7. Thank you. You're already on the list. You said you wanted to join three posts previously.
  8. Thank you everyone who's participating. Even though we're about a month away, i think this will be a great contest. Here's a recap of who's participating, and who's judging: Judges: railfan101 RageMage (Expect a pm from me within the next 24-48 hours) Participants: SpriteZilla Fluidity Foxkit GrimmHallows madanchi Gmack kare3 Wallcroft I will updating this list more frequently, and if a lot of people sign up at once, the first post will get an update too. Also in case anyone's wondering, there is not a limited number of spaces in this contest. I will add more bullet points if we get more people, other than that, it's unlimited.
  9. Happy New Year Everyone. Just a reminder to everyone, the contest begins on MARCH 1, NOT TODAY! So everyone still has 2 months to register before the contest starts. I'm still looking for a second judge to help me with this contest.
  10. I agree. I've been meaning to ask one of the mods or admins if it would be possible to change the title since new year's challenge isn't a vailid title anymore (because it starts in March now.) Also, our competitor count is 6, which means I'm now asking for anyone interested in being a judge for this contest. The rules for being a judge are a little different. First, you cannot already be a competitor in this contest, it wouldn't be fair to the other competitors. Also, not a requirement, but experience previously judging a contest is a plus. that doesn't mean i will single out those who have judged before, but i also won't only consider those who've never judged. If you're interested, send me a pm, don't reply to this thread.
  11. i would prefer VX Ace not be used with this contest. the reason is part of the judging will require me to see how the game was constructed, and in order to see that, i have to have the right RPG Maker. my budget is tight already, and i cannot afford VX Ace right now. So I would prefer for this contest, participants only use XP or VX. I greatly appreicate the interest in this contest. We now have 5 people participating. If more people start signing up, I might start asking for 1 or 2 judges to help out.
  12. Can Firefly really be counted as a complete series? it only ran for one season, and in my opinion, that's not a series, that's a short movie.
  13. star trek is a fantasic franchise. it's a shame they seem to have slowed down new production. no tv series in 6+ years, and only one movie since nemesis, and they claimed they had 3 new movies lined up. but i still enjoy watching the older series.
  14. that sounds like a great idea. thank you.
  15. I'm still trying to figure that out. I don't know if this contest will have a prize or not, but I'm still figuring out what kind of reward I could give for this. I'll figure it out.
  16. You only have to tell me via this thread or via pm you want to participate, then your name is put in the first post under the list labeled competitors. Are you interested in competing?
  17. Bump. and i want to let you guys know, you can still register for this contest, and the start date has been moved to March.
  18. It can be anything you want. Don't limit yourself to only RPG. I would be pleased if anyone made a pokemon game for this contest, having grown up with the genre, I might be judging that one more critically, but that also depends on how many people sign up and how many games are submitted. But there's no limit to what you make. Whatever game idea you have, go ahead and make it.
  19. Yes you can use your own scripts, but I have a few rules regarding scripts in this contest, and I'll update the original post with these. 1. If you use your own scripts: I state in the original post you must begin everything on the start date and no starting anything before the start of the contest. Scripts are the only exception to this rule considering how many things can go wrong, and if something isn't working just right, you could be spending more time during the contest fixing it than spending time actually building your game. 2. If you use someone else's script: You can use someone else's script for this contest, but you MUST have their permission to use it for this contest, unless the author of the script states no permission is nessesary. You must also credit the script as someone else's and not as your own. You WILL be disqualified if you plagerize. All scripts must have a physical presence in the game. I don't mean the load of scripts RPG Maker comes with, I mean custom scripts you put into the game. I don't want to see you load 10 different scripts into the game, and only use 3 of them. If that happens, and if you don't want to lose points, take out the scripts you're not using before submitting the game. Common sense here. If you have any questions, don't hesitiate to ask.
  20. This is interesting in I have never seen this problem before. and it shouldn't matter which layer you put those in, it should work. Might I suggest you delete those few tiles, and place them again starting from the dock and going towards the ship? That might fix it.
  21. You have to play it, it's very good.
  22. Perhaps what I need to do is actually show everyone what I've done rather than try to explain the story. Maybe I'll get better response from a video. I will update this post tonight with a video of the demo so far.
  23. Well, thank you for trying, and I'm sorry it didn't work, but I did find what I was looking for. The link is in my previous post so anyone else who needs this can find it more easily. Again, thank you for trying.
  24. Let me ask an honest question here, is my game so unappealing and so unattractive that no one will bother to either reply or for that matter even bother to download the demo I have had up for over a week? It seems from the lack of response and lack of interest compared to when I annouced this game the first time seems like no one is interested. Don't take this like I'm mad or anything, but I'm surprised no one is interested in this game. Have I really made such a genericly boring game that no one's interested?
