I have over a decade of video editing experience, if you want to think you can edit out all those 'face on' camera shots with ums and aws and have it sound and look perfect, fine think what you will. I know im right because you would have done it if it was possible. If you want your show to be succesful, then make it like a business. If you want to keep making grade 3 presentation quality shows, have an audience so low it wont even rewatch your shows when you make a new channel, keep up what you are doing. You are obviously not thinking of this objectionally, and seem to want to argue with me at every turn. Your main point at fighting me is that you "aren't a business" and "Planning would slow down how many videos I can punch out", but then you clearly state "Good thing I am doing those videos over". REALLY? Instead of listening to me and planning your stuff better, you will just remake it? How is doing the work twice not slower then planning and doing it right once? You apparently think you got it all figured out, so i'll leave you to it, lost a viewer here, good luck mate. I won't be reposting here.

Thats awesome man. Totaly reminds me of a classic rpg. Excellent work on the character depth. I would definitely play this.

1. Nope, you lie, I just watched every video you made, you never once announced what you were talking about before the intro. I am not complaining I am giving constructive critism, and no offense, but if your largest viewed video is 12, no one has ever complimented or complained. 2.Quality over quantity, always. You do realize normal TV shows film stuff in advance right? Like you should be filming shows way in advance and release them like a month in reverse. /Facepalm, you can't edit out ums and ahs, just pratice your lines. 3. Do some research into acting/hosting/presenting, it will do you some good.

If your show is just one segment, it does not need a full blown intro, that means I would have to watch your intro before every small clip (or skip it and defeat the purpose). Your current intro accounted for 15% of your total show time(while giving me no information about what I was about to watch), a 22 minute show with a 2 minute intro is only 9%. I hope your new intro is shorter. Your intro should really be you talking over whatever animation you settle on, saying like "Today I am going to talk about the japanese strategy guide for (blank). I'll go into why japanese strategy guides differ from american guides, and why I prefer them." as is your show kinda lacks purpose. Keeping your stuff like known youtubers is a sure fire way to not get noticed, break the mould, try something new, thats how the known youtubers(the good ones anyhow) became known. You may have done research, but you definitely didn't plan what you were going to say well enough, way too many 'ums' and 'aws' and spontaneous information given after the fact (like you just thought of saying it). You are not talking correctly, you need to project, not shout, huge difference. It's something they teach you in drama class. Listen to any host of any show, they clearly enunciate while speaking at acceptable volumes, its totally a technique. Your sentences do not clearly end and often bleed into each other. You sometimes begin a sentence clear and crisp and end sort of mumbled. Listen closely. You sigh into your sentences, take breaths mid-way, audibly moisten your lips, contstantly say 'tsk', 'um' 'ah', 'grunt', etc. all stuff you gotta practice not to do. To me you sound like we are talking on the phone, not like I am being presented a show. My ol'd lady describes your narrating style as 'limp', it's one step up from "Bueller, Ferris, Bueller." (Please don't take offense, as the voice is one of the hardest things to perfect.) I can understand about not playing music over your talking, your preference. As far as legal issues, there are lterally millions of open source songs/jingles out there designed for this, no need to pirate anything. Keep it up man, I suggest practicing in front of the mirror as most hosts do. *EDIT* I did some googling to find an article that could better describe what I was trying to. Here is a small guide that explains much better what I am trying to tell you. Even the first few sentences better describe it. Hope you read it and it helps. http://sixminutes.dlugan.com/speak-up-voice-projection/

My first attempt at a side view battler
Jon Bon replied to Vinderex's topic in Resource Showcase & Critique
Looks great man, but as my father always says "Never put something off you can do today, for you never know what tomorrow brings." It's ok to plan to do things later, but make sure you don't have too many 'ill do it later's. -Cheers -
I totaly like the idea of your show. It reminds me of a show I used to watch growing up. I do have some feedback for you though; Asylum is enunciated 'ah-sigh-lum' not 'a-say-lum', and proper enunciation is important as a host (I also assume you want to say the name of your show correctly). After watching the intro I got pumped to watch your show, I read all the highlights about what you were going to review etc, and then you spent four minutes slowing talking about a book. It seemed to me that you had no 'points of interest' preplanned to show about the book, nor did you have a basic dialogue planned as you said 'uh' alot. you mentioned "I guess this book is published by...", that doesn't make me want to be informed by you. You need to do your research and inform me when I watch you, I should keep interest by learning something I didn't know. When demonstrating a book and after you have the key points decided, if possible, scan the desired pages into your computer and display them on screen as crisp images we can clearly see as you remain talking about what we are looking at. This will keep your hands free and allow you to say your planned/rehearsed dialogue while the images are displayed. This of course would require pre-planning and post editing, but would allow you to show more information in a shorter time. Also, rehearsing lines will prevent 'uhs' and 'ums' from coming out which eats lots of air time. During the intro I noticed you had segments, Reviews, Previews etc. and then I was only shown one segment, and a long one at that. Each segment should only be a few minutes long(3 at most, ideally 1-2). If you feel a topic needs more coverage then write an article about it and provide a link during the show so people can read up more about it afterwards if they want. Project your voice, and be enthusiastic, I can tell you are trying, but you need to like really try. Pretend you are on stage and you need the people way in the back to hear you but you can't yell. Watch this clip of the show yours reminds me of and observe a few things. Video and Arcade Top 10 (ignor the multi-player stuff) They keep their show pacing by continuing the music while they talk, only more quiet. they also make sure to keep all segments less than 2 minutes, and if a segment is longer they split it into two seperated by a segment of something else. Remember to segue(def 3) your segments together. During each of their segments they touch on key points, things players/viewers will be interested in. You will notice they also break a segment up by having either host say different points. You obviously can't use a second host to break up a segment, but if you have ever watched a youtube show called , he uses the same technique. He simply films himself on the other side of the camera for the second line. He also does the same effect with alternate characters. He has a 'troll' character that always says bad comments and complains about stuff he says, and when that character talks its simply him with a different facial expression and a changed voice on the other side of the screen, but it breaks up the monotony of staring at one person. It also allows him to argue counter points with himself and get a new points across in very little time. Start by making an overall guideline for your show creation, IE: # of segments, overal time limit, segment time limit, etc. Then always try your hardest to keep your show to those guides, editing and cutting things down as much as possible. This process will obviously increase the production time of your show immensely but the trick is to create a template that works and is efficient. Another thing to keep in mind is you can always review old games as one of your segments. These segments can all be created as stand alones, and simply be inserted into any episode as needed. You can then film the old game reviews by the dozens and have a ton back logged to cut down the work needed to release a show. I suggest adding some variety of segments, and keeping the same 2-3 segments in each episode but rotate different ones in for the other two segments. As an example every episode could have a game review, game preview, and game gudie review. Then for the other segments you could rotate between(segment ideas): Clasics-Talk about old school classics newer gamers are likely to be unaware of. Hardware-Talk about new: TV's, Console/Computer peripherals, Stereo equipment, etc. Game Industry-Talk about recent news involving game makers/game companies, etc. Indy Games- Segment for talk about indy games, released through boards much like rmxpu. Free Games-Feature a game that is free and talk about why it is good and why people should play it. Top 10-Create different RPGA Top ten lists/categories, give brief explanation as to why each game ranks where it does. Gamer Tips-Provide insightful, most likely little know tips for a or multiple game(s) per segment Alot of the above segments can be filmed and done LONG before the airing of an episode and will allow you to only focus on 1-2 segments featuring new releases, for each episode. I suggest creating a whole bunch of 'filler' segments before releasing any shows so you never get stuck with lack of content. Then you can simply promise a minimum of 1 segment featuring a new game per episode, this will allow you to realease an episode every week to 2 weeks, even when busy. All in all, I really like the concept man, and I think you could go far with this. You just need to keep at it and keep improving things. Anothering tip I got from =3 is, he deleted all of his old shows once he got a better camera, he also deleted all of his old shows once he got a new background, and he only ended up keeping his shows that all follow the same format he follows now. He of course made changes along the way, but he never kept any of his stuff from the first few years he made the show, as that stuff is 'horribly shitty' as he put it, in comparison to his new stuff of course. So keep in mind you are going to want to find a format and stick with it but ditch all your old content at some point. This way everyone who watches your show anywhere available will get the same quality of experience. Cheers, -Fan Jon Bon

My first attempt at a side view battler

Looks great so far man, just need to make sure you remember to change the shading after you shift everything over. The animation will seem less jarring that way. Particularily on his hcest and inner right arm. Don't forget about changin the other leg, and remember perspective. When he shifts stance one foot will go 'behind' the other making it either 'higher' or 'darker'. -
I believe you are asking about the project cards. I believe the web based application has been disabled as it was out of date and not working well with current web browsers. Marked has promised to get the maker up and running again, as many use it, but I believe it is far down on his list of things, since the new site launch is coming etc. I too want to be able to update my card, but lots more awesome things are coming in the mean time, so I suppose we have to be patient hehe. -Cheers

Agreed, looks great, shade the hedband more. Darken the colors as they reach either side of his head.

Wow, that's definitely a blast from the past. The only thing I recognize is the sticker book. Anyone into fantasy should definitely see willow, such an excellent movie. Definitely cool collection man, cheers.

Excellent. Here is a final version. Credit: BICs, RMXP RTP Battlers If you need any edits done in the future, don't hesitate to send me a message. If you want my images removed from this thread so others can not use the battler, then let me know and I will remove them once you have 'em saved.

Here is what I have so far, let me know if you like it, and if you would like anything changed. -Cheers

Yup, check boxes is a much better system. Agreed, level design is specific enough. Cool, I also liked the horizontal total bar idea(if total were to be included), and thought genre was very applicable. Glad you liked my ideas, that system, to me, symbolizes a very efficient game maker networking site. Combined with your jobs idea, things could be done very effective. Love where this is going, keep up the enthusiastic work. -Cheers

Is it possible to assign a/multiple sub skill(s) to each main skill bar that would then determine its total? So keep it like you have now but as an example sub skills for graphic design would be; Pixel Art 3D Rendering Hand Drawing etc. Then allow the user the ability to choose whether pixel art, or 3D rendering etc. is actually added to their graphical design skill total. Other Examples: This way as a user I can specify which area of a skill I excel at and comparatively people interested in my work will know that even though I consider myself the same skill at say graphic design as someone else I may be into pixel art while the other person is a 3D renderer. The events section could be replaced by an 'Engine(s)' section which would have the different makers as its sub section. This would allow people to demonstrate their skill in different makers be it rmxp/vx/ace or one of the many others. This way the makers themselves can have sub-sub sections with eventing, scripting etc if applicable. As far as navigation, if possible you would click any of the main bars and the entire display would change to the sub bars related to it. Clicking some form of 'main/home' button would bring the main skills back into display. I think if this system were possible it would best cater to all forms of game creation (I have no idea how realistic this is.) *Additional suggestion* If possible add the 'Overall Bar' horizontally along the bottom/top and replace its current spot with a 'Genre' section. This would allow people to specify which genre(s) they like to create for. Now that I think about it an overall bar may not even be necessary, since the individual skills are more important then the sum. Just how I envisioned it, but I love the idea none the less, can't wait to be able to setup and display my skills, however customizable it ends up. -Cheers
