  1. This isn't even the worst of it, right before I get this uploaded there are 8 of everyone.
  2. I really don't think that it fits the site at all,I'd think that something along the lines of a wire-frame mesh fading into a textured mesh. I think that might fit much better. Marked if you're interested I may be able to put together something along those lines, just have to PM me with a request and I'll get started on it as soon as I can.
  3. Open up some bandwidth and reload, it happens from time to time from having to many things going on online at once, direct downloads, torrents, loading pages, and any type of online game eats up bandwidth. If I'm not mistaken didn't you say you had satellite internet? If that's the case then there is a lot of overhead causing large amounts of latency this also means that over taxing your bandwidth will cause lagging and often partial loading or even corrupt downloads/uploads. Only thing there is to do is try to let some pages finish loading and finish downloads before trying to load another page, if that doesn't work there is always the other two options, first one being reboot, the second being the HTDT solution, HTDT is also known as "hit the damn thing". Though in most cases a simple reload after a few seconds will fix the problem with ease.
  4. Renaissance is pretty easy to put a visual to, in fact it is one of the easiest to do. Essentially as I said the Renaissance was an age of Art and Science, most of the great artists of all time were from the renaissance era. If you think about great cathedrals large stone buildings with tall spires on the roof, gargoyles and other decorative statues built into the buildings. This also was the introduction of the middle class where as previously there was royalty and knights and then there was everyone else, with this also introduced the option for anyone to wear clothing styles that would have previously been only available to royalty. There was a time where a style for clothing called slashing was invented this was where thin light weight tunics of one color was worn under a tunic of another color the outer tunic's sleeves were cut into strips to allow the color of the other tunic to show through. I find it much easier to picture than many other themes, for 2D I think it would be much easier than steam-punk. This sort of thing is something that needs to be researched in depth and every detail covered, I've done research for both renaissance and steam-punk for my game since they fit together very well. A steam-punk medieval mix I don't see working to well logically, but that's not saying it can't be done of course. I guess I better stop before I get back to writing my novel on the Renaissance period.
  5. I'm surprised you read my wall of text, I wrote it and wont read it. Glad that it wasn't 30 minutes of typing wasted lol. I really don't like the idea of 2 moons though, it's done every time you turn around, heck Acclaim hosted a MMO that was called 2Moons (Dekaron, was the original Korean name that it goes by globally now as Acclaim no longer hosts the servers). If there is to be more than one moon I say 4 or 5. My question is since it was to be a 2D game, how are you going to pull off multiple moons? Will it just be cut scenes showing the moons or will there be more to it? It would be more understandable to talk about multiple moons if the game was to be 3D as it would be something that would see more than 1 or 2 times and give an actual effect on the visuals of the game.
  6. didn't kell get motm 3 times last year?
  7. For the time setting, I say a mix between renaissance, and feudal. I don't think the steam punk genre can be called a time setting as it's more of a theme there was really never a steam punk era I think what you was thinking of was renaissance, which was essentially the marking point of the end of the black plague and the birth of art and science becoming a common place. Most of invention took place throughout the renaissance period and many artists were credited within the scientific world. Leonardo da Vinci being one of those artists who were also scientists, his sketches on human anatomy are still used today as reliable resources for studying anatomy, he was also an engineer and had created was to build momentous statues and even designed what had been adapted and turned into helicopters today. The Renaissance period was also a time of alchemical studies, the turning of lead into gold. Steam punk is more of creating wondrous and impossible machines that would run off steam power, though steam power is not actually a requirement as there have been many game adaptations of steam punk that allowed these machines to run off magical power as well. Airships, would be an example of what would be found in a steam punk world. Other things would be huge mechanical suits used for common tasks or even for combat (think Final Fantasy 3 magi-tek armor), cities on the back of large walking robots. The clothes for a steam punk themed world would be similar to renaissance though there would be more tans, blacks, and grays and less of the bright colors which renaissance clothing is known for. The fact that it is rather difficult to work out a decent 2D steam punk is why I wouldn't recommend it at least not as a primary theme, perhaps including the small things, broilers and pipes through cities, that would allow for some larger steam punk introductions. It aggravates me to no end when you are playing a game in medieval era and then suddenly there's an airship, it doesn't fit, but introducing the smaller nuances will create the opportunity. As far as that goes, perhaps rather than a region of the world, it takes place across the entire world, not all regions changed at the same time, when Europe was in the Renaissance, most of Asia was still in a feudal and post-feudal culture. Deciding that the whole world will be one way is very limiting and takes out the possibility of making use of the economy of different cultures to make a profit from around the world trading. I would love to see a large diverse world where I can buy something in one region and trade it in another to make a profit. Unless you are planning to include large steam powered vessels like airships, don't bother with steam punk in a 2D engine. Go with Renaissance and Feudal, if you plan to make a even more diverse world introduce an American Settlers kind of region, though that is going a little far and really doesn't fit to well. As the polls stand now, I think the dad is going to be a werewolf zombie, that has been turned into the family pet and stuck inside an enchanted jar. It's a fairy in a bottle!!!!
  8. I third the nomination for rgangsta, he has been a lot of help to a lot of people.
  9. People chat nao! I slept in some freaky controtionist pretzel last night and now I can't hardly walk, looking down even makes me want to scream like a little girl.

I don't get what you're saying, you slept? Ion a pretzel and now you're going doo-lally? XD

  10. Reminds me to much of RMXPU. I like the way GDU was before this change, things loaded so smoothly and easily. I'll have to strongly agree, the way it is currently with the board panel and recent gallery, causes the site to load a lot slower.
  11. I've not had any problem with this really, maybe on extremely rare occasion when I'm doing a lot to take up bandwidth, but most of the time I have no problems at all.
  12. Thanks, even after having worked on the story for so long it's still in a jumbled mess, so I'll update with more as I get things more organized. I'll be sure to update with screenshots as I get into the actual art design, for now I'm working on the programming side of development.
  13. Hey Metal, welcome. We're all pretty friendly here, like was mentioned before, be sure to pop into chat once in awhile I'm almost always on there and Kevin is in there just as much so if anything it's a nice place to just come and chat and discuss game stuff.
  14. Project Details Ivory Realms takes place in a Renaissance like time period, with Asian influences. Many of the elements are of a mixture of Steam-punk and fantasy. With several vast worlds to explore a wide variety of characters and creatures await. Story 18 years ago the kingdom of Phantane was conquered by the warring nation Deluve. Sieto, the top General of Deluve's military, saw first hand to the massacre of Phantane's royal family. However, one member of the family, an infant, had been sent away under the protection of Phantane's Elite royal guard. Realizing the mistake, Sieto sent out assassins of all of the members of the Elite guard to kill them and their families. There only a select few who have survived, living in caves and sewers just to get by. Information Realms - Universes that have become more and more diversified. Realm Towers - Built by the gods they act as passageways to other universes, there are 7 in total each connecting the 8 realms, smaller towers exist nearby the main towers connecting to different regions of the target realm. Main Characters Kaite - age 22 - His mother was an elite guard who was targeted during the assassin attacks, carried him as far as she could when the attack fell onto them trying hard to get him out of danger. When his mother could take him no further she hid him telling him not to make a sound. He watched as his mother fought and died protecting him. He is quite strong, driven by his desire for revenge he wants nothing more than to reclaim Phantane and destroy Deluve. He survives with his uncle and Hope living in the sewers as thieves. Hope - age 19 - The last surviving member of the Royal family, not yet aware of who she really is. Her entire life has been running away, being raised by an elite guard member she blames their lifestyle on him. She now lives in the sewer with Kaite and his uncle. Her motivation comes from her desire to be strong, though she often feels so weak having to be rescued all of the time. She just wants to live a normal life like everyone else and get out of the sewers. Enemy Characters Sieto - He was the number one general in Deluve's military, having stood at the front lines just so he could kill anyone that got in his way. He is a sadistic man with only the desire to kill. His only reason for life is to bathe in blood. Zeali - The Emperor of Deluve, he seeks to control the Realm towers and then take his claim to become immortal. He fears only death, and spiders, and will let nothing get in his way. Systems Ivory Realms will be developed using Unity. 3D graphics will be done in Blender. Textures and 2D graphics will be done in Photoshop. All scripts will be written in C#. Special thanks rgangsta - Title and logo art. Updates yet to come.
  15. For those of us who miss the other new emotes, I got the full list of all 55 emotes from Marked. Thanks Marked. Well here they all are hope these are helpful until the emotes box is finished in the chat. Enjoy folks.
  16. Another suggestion, chat status. There's the space to the right of the send button in chat and that would be the perfect place for a status drop box, letting us change our status between available, away, or busy, and if someone has gone so long without sending a message maybe setting them to idle. This would make it easier to tell who is actually talking in chat. There are a lot of people who log on say hi and then never say anything else. Only other thing I could think of is the red dot telling how many people are in chat, maybe hovering over it brings up a list of people in chat and there status.
  17. Looking awesome, I'm kinda excited about this up-loader it will make everyone's life a lot easier.
  18. I think there are plenty of emoticons in the chat, if there's an emotion to complex to display with just one use two or three, make it a compound emoticon. I think having quick load image hosting on here would be a great idea, I've been using imgur to upload my images and it just feels stupid to me to upload them in one place just to post them somewhere else. I don't care much for the level system idea, we already have one sort of the member titles for number of posts, like you have the 'Loyal Member' title. On the topic of level system, I think that a rating system for posts would be nice if there is a post we like we get a chance to rate it up or down.
  19. Ugh working on story and fleshing out a P&P betable concept and mechanics is taking way longer than I remember, then again I am taking on a much larger project than usual, I can expect to have this done in 1 or 2 to 900 years give or take a few decades.

    1. madanchi

      madanchi

If we create an invention that make sus live more than 900 years of age, I'll be expecting it :)

  20. I like that idea, it would slim down some of the bulk of the forums and possibly make things much more organized. As for combining them into one section having subsections for each of the RGSS versions would be the best bet in my opinion.
  21. @ShinGamix No I'm just saying that I can help to keep things moving, though saying I'd take a leadership position was only from my past experience dealing with people whom seem to lose interest quickly as well as help to keep things on track and making the tough decisions as opposed to having several conflicting ideas. Though as I would imagine you would like to take the lead on the project as you have started the topic on it. Working on a group project is a lot different from a solo project, there are a lot of things that must be discussed in depth and decided on before the project even gets close to starting development. Just as a very unrealistic example, the game is meant to be a RPG but your programmers work on a FPS for months and months, nobody thinks to mention it early on and now there goes a few months of work wasted. If you can get together a HCD just a small basic simple document to get the basic idea across that can be elaborated on in discussion by those who are working on the project.
  22. I'm in depending on the engine of choice as you know. I'm not against using RM though I would rather be working in Unity, as I'm probably one of the few people here for now that use Unity and knows C#, Unity would probably be a pipe dream for now. If a project was started using Unity I think it would be a great chance for others to learn C# and even get used to using a 3D game engine as opposed to a 2D RPG maker. For a change I'm willing to throw my hat into the ring for project leader for a Unity project, I have experience with the engine and have lead small scale projects recently that made it to completion before everyone went barbaric on me and flipped out cause I was trying to get coders to clean up their code and fix bugs. Even after a large game project, like this would be, reaches completion, there is still a lot of work to be done in bug fixing and beta testing which would likely take a few months, and testing in itself is a long and tedious process better to not be done by designers and programmers. I'm all for a community project and would like to see something take off, I would even like to be part of that project when it does. The problem however is that we don't have the most active community and those of us that are active are always working on other projects. The best plan of action would be a starting a 2 or 3 person project to get started and let others join in work on it when they get the chance. Big plus for those that join early is they get more of a say in the project such as story content or systems control. Having a small project with loads of potential would do more to get others interested and have more people join or just give minor support can do a lot to keep a project moving.
  23. I still say use Unity, otherwise my contributions to the project will be minimal, as most of the writing and work I do otherwise will be to my other project. Other than that note, I'd like to see more people posting on this as it could become the first of GDU community developed games that succeed in being finished.
  24. Okay if a kid doesn't know the difference from reality and fantasy, someone must take the time to explain it to them and then bash every TV in the house with a sledgehammer. Seriously it's going to be like with everything else, "video games cause violence", "card games are created by Satan". Now there will be a new one, "Anime makes people kill themselves." Sounds to me like the parents didn't care and seems like the kid should have been talking with a therapist. Did nobody notice that this guy had a problem?
