  1. Anywho, I should mention that the forums and community here are infinitely helpful. A pleasant group, too. Nice choice, coming back. Bet you won't regret it.
  2. The first thing I think is "I'll never be able to afford this. Not in a million years." :P But looks very cool. Someday, I'll move on from this old computer with its lag and its turbo button.
  3. Agreed. That seems a rather large game to start out with. While I'm not sure how good you're at with RMVX Ace since you're new, your engine level says "getting there". So I'm going to assume this is your first game project. Kitsuki has a point. 108 characters is an extremely large number. Unless you're planning to split them into smaller groups and give them all time to be fleshed out (which will prove extremely difficult and would take hours to do if you were going that route), I doubt it'd be feasible. I've worked with large groups in games before, and I know people who have had up to 20 characters in their game's party. That game has +32 chapters. Plenty of time for fleshing out, wouldn't you think? But nope--the developer's number one complaint was "I wish I had a smaller group so I could develop them more." You'd also need character graphics and sprites for--all of them? That's going to be a difficult task. I would suggest, as I have to others starting with RPG Maker before, to experiment with making a smaller game on your own, with maximum effort. The benefits of doing that is that you can practice your skills and learn the engine efficiently without the constraints of time and a large team. You don't need all those people for a smaller game. Nice thing about it is, you can always post those smaller games on GDU and get feedback and help from other people on improving them. In no time, you'll be ready to take on a larger project. And like dolarmak said, a lot of us are busy. But again, don't be discouraged. You'd be surprised what you can do with a very small team, or even on your own.
  4. Does this mean I can change my settings now?
  5. My partner comes Skyping me at 4AM just to complain about a Speech&Debate tournament she has not written a speech for until now, the night before the tournament. There goes 6 hours of sleep.

Well sacrifices are necessary even if you lose rest like 95% of the time.

then these sacrifices must occur every day, because I've practically become nocturnal by now. D:

Sacrifices are made even if it's a daily basis. It's a pain, i know. But it eventually pays off.

  6. Voice acting included? Seems like a large project. Since there are only characters and no background information/setting established (at least not anything too specific in my mind), I'll have to wait and see what it turns out like. Good luck on this game.
  7. Solved my own problem. Opened up a new project, put some scripts in and out to see if any of them were causing the problem, and found out that it was my Scene_Menu edits that somehow messed things up. I ended up making several copies of my project and endlessly copying code back and forth to recreate the menu so that I can view character bios by accessing the "MenuStatus" and selecting the actor of my choice before viewing the bio. For some reason, my partner and I removed this function in the past, probably thinking we'd never need it. Never again will I make a mistake like that. To fix it, it took me near three hours, but finally it looks like things are working fine again--perhaps better than before. Thanks for your help, Mage! Problem solved.
  8. I experimented around with that. Even if I go into a new game, the script seems to read from down and up. Funny enough, it seems to do that with my skills, too... Odd. I'll be looking for a way to fix this. With a little work, managed to add some text onto the biography that tells the player to use Q and W to navigate, so that's one thing taken care of--even if it ends up coming out like that in the end, the player will know there are more characters to explore. I'll just have to fix the skills now, or at least find out what's causing it. <Note, also deleting the screenshot and names from the first post.>
  9. How is it that I can never figure out these things? Thanks, Mage, I'll check out the script again when I get back to the computer. It was actually a mistake that led me to realise I could even navigate by Q. I was in the middle of typing up a support topic for a way to go from page to page when I accidentally pressed the key, checked my game, and saw that it was able to change pages. Amazing. But there's still something that bothers me. It's how the biography started out with Paceci's (last) rather than Maebnus's... Any idea why?
  10. So some months ago (possibly more than a year?) my partner asked around on this forum and got a useful script. For a while, it sat in the corner untouched until now I've unearthed it and brought it back from the dead to use in our project. Exciting stuff. Here's a link to it, since I'm about to do a little bit of talking that could definitely use it as a reference: <link removed> I looked at the script for a while. Found out how it worked. Turns out it replaces Scene_Status. I've been experimenting around with battles and parties lately--up until now, we haven't thought about that at all, because the player has always been the only one in the party... therefore the only one whose biography should be able to be viewed. No other characters, no complications. But now that we're having battles, it's getting into those complications. What happens is this. When I click into "Memories" (which calls Scene_Biography), the biography screen comes up. I can navigate it with the "Q" button, going through the characters' biographies in order. Only it goes backwards. How do I fix this and make it go the other way around?
  11. Doesn't matter if it's fanmade or not. Make whatever you want, as long as you enjoy it. My advice is that you should make smaller games first, but do them to the very best of your abilities. This will help you to build up your experience in using RMXP and to learn to use all the tools efficiently and to the most extent. I've been working on a fanmade project with my partner for two years. We first started out with RMXP wanting to make a fangame off an anime and an already existing RPG Maker game. After about four months, the project was abandoned when we discovered the creator didn't allow fangames, so that was that. But those four months taught me to utilise most of the commands in the basic system, and now we've moved on to our current two-years-old project. It's going decently, thanks to the experience we gathered. The only thing I regret is that we jumped into such a large project only after learning the basics. My experience has been pretty rewarding, so I advise you start experimenting right away. Don't waste time, just go and see what you can do. From there, build on. Again, small games and maximum effort. You'd be surprised what you can make with RMXP with a little practice.
  12. HOLD IT! Did you see that MS Paint monster in the beginning? ;-; What an unholy monster. Thanks. I still need to find time to work on it again, preferably right after I wrap up all my currently rl responsibilities in a couple weeks.
  13. I remember visiting that site at my early times in using RMXP. I never got a feel for it, and I didn't like it so much as I liked Chaos Project or other sites, but some things were helpful for my learning the engine. So I have memories of it stashed away in a place of my sentiments reserved just for RPG Maker things. Not good to see a site like that go. Even if I never made an account for it or anything. At least we still have GDU--which is, needless to say, my favourite.
  14. I practice so much that I've actually started to dream about practicing piano now... D:

  15. ... How did they miss a sales opportunity like that? I would have switched to RMVX Ace if there were more resources, but since they don't, I stuck to my RMXP. I have a copy of Ace that someone gave me a key to, and I've experimented with it--nevertheless, the charm that XP has for me can't be won over by mere upgrades like that of Ace's. Got to have some good stuff to map with. (Even if the mapping system bothers me as it is.)
  16. I prefer RPG Maker offline. I enjoy the single-player simplicity of it. The package definitely needs some work. It's not exactly in top-notch condition, but it's something. At least an example for someone to work off of if they actually want to make one of these themselves.
  17. I'm very tempted to try out Unity, but like Zahraa said. God apparently didn't think I was eligible for the "10-15 years to waste" list. Granted, I'm still in school and the orchestra class alone seems to think we can handle the workload of an actually symphonic orchestra. Perhaps I'll have time in the future after I wash my hands of current projects. I'll hold it off until summer holidays come around, then I might check it out. This is what I signed up for, never should have joined a school that's so insane about its music program But this is a useful list. Thanks for making this, I was wondering about it for a while.
  18. Interesting. It actually looks really nice. Where I am the internet isn't that great, so the tabs are a nice change. So much less loading to deal with.
  19. The paste was removed, is what I'm getting for the third one. Or was it in something else? I know you said to PM someone else. But it's been removed, so I'm thinking that was actually it.
  20. https://www.dropbox.com/s/mq7j97nkpqmv702/Vampyr%20Net%20Gaming%201.0.9.zip Did someone say the VX link was dead? Aah. I wasn't aware that XP had one. I should see if I can get around to testing that.
  21. I don't know much about it, but I know it would be terribly difficult to make one. As far as I'm aware, there is no such script that is stable or well-built enough--that is, if anyone's made one. It would be hard to make one on your own. Jumping into the deep end might be the wrong term--more like leaping into the middle of the ocean.
