I know, i changed it to the same window to the left of it, it's just too much, i was trying to do it on a limited tileset, still. Got what i can out of it :P :alright:

Blugh. I really should be getting back to work, but it's too hot and spriting fat guys is hard. So I thought I'd toss up a couple of maps. This is a cave that I did for a tutorial:

It wasn't a very big game. Those two maps comprise the entire world.

I may as well post some screenies, it's been a long time since I posted any. I'll show you some screenies from the newest town in Hope Afloat; Jenkins :alright: . Jenkins will be released very soon, maybe this afternoon, just gotta fix a few glitches. If you'd like to see the topic, the bar is in my sig. The download link may not be working, however, so I will fix it with the latest release. Well, without further ado;

Jenkins

 

The Story Behind Jenkins:

Jenkins was a city that was bombed by a experimental zombie-killing agent, which utilised the zombie virus to kill it's own creations... But, this time, it didn't work. The vapor cloud containing the virus that was meant to kill the infected did the opposite; infected every last person in the city. Your car doesn't have much fuel left, so Jenkins is like a fuel-run-gone wrong; not only do you have to get 3 canisters of fuel, but its nearly pitch black.

It's pretty dark, yeah? Not only is it dark, it's storming. This storm, though, is the only thing that might actually save you. You see, storm = lightning, and lightning - ning = light.

See? Now, you can see where the hell you are and where the infected are, too. If you've played up until now, you will already know the existence of infected QL3 Soldiers and Infected hazmat suit soldiers, but the one in the black hood, covered in blood? That is one out of two new infected you will see in Jenkins. This one is called the Prowler. Slow, but deadly. Don't let em hit you, or your health will suffer dearly.

 

After the streets, and when you get all the fuel, you can start your trip back to your car. To get to your car, you need to pass through a sewer system and a swamp. I won't show you any screenshots of the sewer, because I don't want to spoil the 2nd new infected, but I will show you a screenshot of the swamp.

Credit goes to Rusttey for making this for me. Can you believe this is, what, his 13th, maybe 14th map? He's a natural born mapper :alright: . Anyway, this is the swamp. You can see your car from here, too. You got the fuel so just pass through the infected, grab some ammo along the way and get out of this hell hole.

 

I had a lot of fun making Jenkins, as I got to implement some things I've never done before, such as the lightning system for the streets and the new feature in the sewers. Everything for Jenkins is complete, I'm just going to get Polraudio to test it for me this afternoon and I'll be able to release it. Enjoy.

Tom - Your maps are pretty good; I've just got a couple of minor quibbles. The first is that the city map uses the same sidewalk-smear tile over and over and it makes it look artificial. The second is that your pickup sprite is kinda dodgy. The third ('cause three is a couple, yeah) is that the blood looks too bright, but that's really not map-related.

 

Franklin - You're right; it is a little barren. I probably won't do anything with that map, since I just did it in a few minutes for a tutorial, but it's something to keep in mind for any future caves I end up making.

It's because the art is a bit lower quality than the stuff around it and it's not as bright as the rest of the scenery. Well, and it looks much too small to fit the person who proposes to get into it.

 

Plus there's the whole question of "how the heck did he park a pickup truck in the middle of that mess?"

Nice maps Tom...but I have to complain that I see a bit too much of empty space...and the sprites look weird against the mapping style.

I guess I'll give this topic a bit of a bump.

 

Miles, your map kinda' has the same problem. There's a lot of empty space. And the cut-out of the cliff looks really odd. The map looks like it's only half done.

 

Here's a map I made with my new favorite tile-set. I challenged myself to not use tiles like trees and cliffs that are used as space fillers, but still fill the space:

why is there a well in the middle of the forest? and does rocks on the square iland look weard

Who knows, maybe the place is near a town? If not near any sort of settlement then get rid of the bucket and change the color of the well to a sort of brown-ish color or something similar to make it look aged.

 

But yeah this is a fantasy game so almost anything goes ^^

The french game looks nice but i say get rid of the VX tiles, they clash horribly against XP pieces, waterfall looks out of place as well.

And some plants look too sharp against others, some slight editing should fix that.

Yes, this map is right before the Castle Town Entrance. I will put a guard near the well to show people are around. I will also get rid of the rocks on the little isle.

 

Here is another one, this is my little brother did.

there is no road in this one and the big tree has only 2/3 of the shadow but you probobly know the second one alos one tree is in the water and what is what parlially dead grass doing in the water?

i dont rate people if you awnt rates go to a school there you get rated on how much you follow the guidelines and how little creativity you have i hate school

I wanna post in here but how do you make a screenshot?

 

Your keyboard should have a button on it labeled: PRT SC (print screen). You then open a photo editor and paste it. They also have software that can do this, i.e. a screen recorder (some do video, some do images, and some can do both).
